2.0 release text
Welcome to Ember! 2.0 is a chunky update, with support for translation, showing Total Fire Bans, lots of map customisation improvements, better macOS support, and first-time visionOS support — alongside many bug fixes and improvements. Dig into the details below to find out more!
What's New in Ember 2.0:
- Translate Emergency Information Instantly
Emergency situations are stressful enough without language barriers. Ember now includes built-in translation powered by Apple's Translation framework — tap the translate button on any incident or CFA article to instantly translate critical safety information into your preferred language. Perfect for tourists, international visitors, and multilingual households.
Available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
- Customisable Map Experience
Take control of how you view emergencies with 13 new map settings. Choose your preferred map style, toggle incident markers, warning areas, and Total Fire Ban zones on or off, adjust clustering behaviour, and more. Whether you want a detailed tactical view or a simplified overview, the map now adapts to your needs.
- Total Fire Ban Areas
Ember now displays Total Fire Ban (TFB) declarations directly on the map. Know at a glance which areas have fire restrictions in place — essential information for anyone planning outdoor activities during fire season.
- Improved CFA News Reading
We've refined the article reading experience with cleaner layouts and less clutter. Articles now display more naturally without duplicate text, and navigation is smoother across all platforms.
- Apple Vision Pro Support
Ember now runs natively on Apple Vision Pro! View Victorian emergency incidents on a stunning spatial map, browse CFA updates, and access settings — all in an immersive environment.
Note: Translation is not yet available on visionOS due to some platform challenges. I’m looking forward to making it available in the future.
- Mac Enhancements
Mac users get a refined experience with improved toolbar controls, keyboard shortcuts for power users, and a polished settings window that feels right at home on macOS.
Under the Hood
* Improved data filtering removes stale incidents for a cleaner, more relevant map
* Better resilience when individual data sources are temporarily unavailable
* Various performance improvements and bug fixes
Thank you for using Ember to stay safe.
If you find the app helpful, a review on the App Store helps others discover it too. During fire season, remember to prepare thoroughly, and leave early. Take care and stay safe.
