iDfish - AI Fish Identification & Fishing Regulations
Identify your catch instantly using advanced on-device AI. Fish smarter, faster, and legally - even without an internet connection.
AI Photo Identification - Works Offline
iDfish features advanced AI photo recognition that analyses a photo of your catch to assist with fast and accurate species identification. Trained on thousands of high-quality, real-world images, the AI recognises natural variations in colour, shape, and size as fish and other marine species appear when freshly caught.
This feature runs entirely on your device and does not require an internet connection, making it reliable wherever you fish.
Once identified, instantly access:
• Legal size limits (where applicable)
• Protection and release requirements
• Eating quality information
All in under 60 seconds, helping maximise survival when fish are returned to the water.
Trusted Fishing Data in the Field
iDfish provides reliable and consistent fishing information designed specifically for real-world fishing conditions. Whether you use AI photo recognition or manual browsing, the app helps you quickly confirm:
• Species identification
• Size and possession limits
• Protection status and closures
• Eating quality and handling advice
The World’s Largest Line-Caught Fish Database with Regulation Information
iDfish contains the largest database of line-caught fish species with regulation information available on any mobile application.
All images are:
• High-quality and high-resolution
• Photographed as fish appear freshly caught
• Free from tank photos, underwater shots, dead fish, or illustrations
Because fish can vary significantly due to stress, environment, or age, iDfish includes multiple colour phases and species comparison tools, making accurate identification fast and practical.
Works Completely Offline
iDfish works offline in the field, including AI photo recognition. Any trip data you record will automatically sync to your account when an internet connection becomes available.
Note: Due to the size of the image database, a Wi-Fi connection is required for the initial download from the App Store. You are also required to create an account and log in before offline use is available.

I caught a fish today that I had no clue what species it was, and my partner usually knows every fish type but this one had us both stumped. I spent a lot of time googling what it could be and eventually I gave up. I typed up best fish ID app and this one popped up. I couldn’t describe it very well but sent in an application to get it verified . Got an email about 15 mins later (at 12am on a Sunday) telling me what the fish was as well as how to find out what to search. Ended up being a southern smiler. Just a heads up for getting this app $10 a year and downloading the app takes a bit of time. But for $10 a year, you can see the legal measurements for different species, identification, very quick emails back for unknown species, as well as places where you can find the different fish. Very good app for people starting to fish either offshore or on land. Even just people that are curious about what they are catching.
Great Support! Great App

I have always enjoyed Fishing but been more of the Fish and Giggle type. I was recommended this App a week ago by a friend but couldn’t get the spelling right in App Store... While I have lived on water before I have now resettled on water and the Gold Coat Broadwater is my back yard now. What a great Back yard!!! I live near Seagrass Beds which are great fish Nursery. Moral of the story is you catch ALL sorts of fish and some Juveniles including Reef Species. None of my friends and Group Members of various groups could ID it for me. BUT the Moderators at iDfish we’re able t help. Presto a Juvenile Sweetlip. I need to get better at Fish Morphology but practice will make perfect as I plan to live where I am for a long time!!!! Thank Kristian for pointing me in the right direction. Cheers Mark

I have been using this APP now for years, probably soon after it was first released. It is regularly updated and even better it works off line so you don’t need to worry about having mobile coverage or data. It is easy to use and ID fish bases on colour, mouth shape, stripes, spots etc. gradually narrowing down the possibilities of your catch. One hand little feature I love too is the size and position limits as well as season closure dates. Or a no take. The app will let you know if that species is noxious, or even table quality if it has a rating. If the fish is toxic it will also provide this info too.
Very nice app

Not requiring internet it's a big one but that's what you need out on the water. Great pics, all the info about catching them and whether they eat good, even how to prepare them. To top it all off I had one that just wasn't obvious to me from the pic I'd taken, my friend nailed it but I wanted to confirm with app. I failed to navigate the menu because I didn't show top fin very well in my photo but the help feature replied within minutes at odd hours with the ID. Genuinely better than expected app, support and cost seems reasonable for someone learning the fish in their area
