Version 2.13.3
BeReal is adding two new features aimed at creating more ways for you to share moments with the people you care about the most:
- Roulette: An extra BeReal every day but this time using photos from your camera roll. Are you brave enough to spin the wheel and see what memory pops up? Take a chance on your past with Roulette but don’t forget to show us your reaction with the front facing camera!!
- Events: Find and join events on BeReal to see content you won’t get anywhere else including exclusive behind-the-scenes and on-stage BeReals from your favourite RealPeople/RealBrands. Share your own event moments - whether you are there or watching from a distance - and you may be included in our official wrap-up video.
- Lots of little updates to make sure your BeReal experience is always the best it can be.

Editors' Notes
For its millions of users, seeing and being seen on BeReal is a comfort. Its photo-only feed gives an authentic glimpse of what the people you care about most are experiencing as they go about their day. The app’s simplicity reintroduces what feels like a novel idea: a realistic glimpse into what your friends are doing, seeing, and experiencing.
BeReal was great until they added private message feature
I will still use this all because I like being real and seeing what my friends are up to, and that’s what made this app unique. But in their recent update adding the private message feature, it now feels like any other social media app where you can DM friends. The good design of the one post a day (with the added bonus for on time posting which I like because it gets people posting more on time) now has this feature which can turn it into an app which you will spend more time on- like we need more time on social media! I don’t think people will use it all that much since Instagram and Snapchat still exist, although fb messenger is by far superior.
Anyway, I love the concept of the app but not the new feature of DMs
Toxic expectations and a warning.
I don’t want to lie and say this app is bad, but I definitely would not recommend downloading it if you have bad body image or self-esteem. I do myself, and I’ve had trouble uploading the BeReal for the day, or even replying to others BeReal with the Realmojis. This is because the whole app is based around the idea of showing your face off to others - and if you don’t you aren’t able to view your friends BeReals which basically render the app as redundant. Though, since this app is so popular right now, it feels as if you’re missing out on something if you’re not on BeReal, so you’re faced with societal pressures to do this. But everyone’s trying to make their life look picture-perfect, so you start to feel bad when yours is just you in bed. For people who don’t like showing their face off on social media to a large audience at once, I wouldn’t recommend. At least with other social media applications like Snapchat, you’re able to personalise what you are sending to each individual person depending on what you’re comfortable with - and you don’t have you show your face if you don’t want to (unlike with BeReal). This app has affected my mental health and personal image in a negative way, and it feels toxic.
I just wanted to write this warn people of how this app might not be for everyone. However, with certain tweaks to the app, this could be prevented (i.e. not needing to upload a BeReal to see others).
