Set unique colors or background images for every player, and swipe to track commander damage with ease. Beyond life tracking, Lotus handles everything from Poison counters to Storm count, Energy to Mana, and even keeps tabs on your Commander Tax.
Advanced Game Management
Swipe up or down on player cards to access a full suite of customization options. Set custom backgrounds, enable partner commanders, and manage players directly from their cards. Share your favorite profiles across devices, and when a player falls in battle, bring them back with our streamlined revival system. Plus, add some salt to defeat with customizable defeat messages!
Card Search and Price Checking
Need to check if that sneaky tech is format legal? Or maybe you're wondering about the price of that chase rare? Search for any Magic card to instantly see current prices and format legality information.
Additional Game Modes: Planechase and Archenemy
Planechase: Journey through different planes with a full suite of Planechase cards, including the newest Doctor Who planes. The deck shuffles automatically, bringing fresh challenges to each game.

more This is one of the best life-counter apps I’ve ever used; in comparison to others it’s a lot cleaner in design and it’s intuitive from the start without having to guide me on how to use the functions of it. I think the only thing missing that my playgroup would appreciate is a Commander damage counter, to keep track of the damage each player has taken.
Developer Response Thank you so much for the kind words! Good news: commander damage is in now. Swipe a player card sideways to track damage from each opponent.

This is the best life tracker out there. Only two things I’d love to see implemented - commander damage, and saving presets for players. I’d like to have a database of “players” that I can make and choose to start with so I’m not typing in names and changing player colours every time I start a new game. That’s only a minor inconvenience though - this app is great!!!
Developer Response Thank you so much! Both are in now: commander damage (swipe a player card sideways) and Profiles, so you can save players with name and color and pick them at the start of a game. 😊

It’s looks good no important features are locked behind a paywall nor does it run like dog water this gets my thumbs up 11/10

Great, clean and functional: generally a joy to use. There are some minor points that hold this back from being a perfect 5-star app, though. First of all - the app desperately needs a Commander damage tracker! This, in my eyes, is the biggest feature that holds it back from dominating other life-tracker apps. Additionally, trying to multitask or open the Notification Centre is liable to unintentionally change life totals. You can usually fix this by looking at the game history, but it’s an annoyance nonetheless. Finally, it’s not super clear in the UI how to start a new game in a single match. A more elegant way of handling Bo3 and Bo5 matches would be welcome.
Developer Response Thanks for the detailed review! Good news: commander damage is in now. Swipe a player card sideways to track damage from each opponent. Hope it gets you to that fifth star. 😊

iPhone Duo
Lotus now fills the whole screen on iPhone Duo, folded and unfolded. Unfold it and the game fits the bigger screen, and you can turn it sideways. Folded, the buttons keep clear of the camera in the corner. Also fixed: Settings no longer slides sideways, and a long email address wraps instead of pushing the list off screen.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!

iPad landscape
Lotus on iPad now follows how you hold it. Turn your iPad sideways and the game fits the screen, no more black bars or a sideways playspace. It works in any orientation, and in resized windows on iPadOS 26.

New: Cracked Screen Effect. Turn it on in Settings and the player cards crack like glass when they take damage. Cracks start where you tap and grow with every hit, big hits break holes out of the glass, gaining life mends them, and they fade away on their own.

Pack Opener
Open booster packs from any Magic set, right in Lotus. Pick a set, tap the pack to tear it open, swipe through your cards and see what the pack is worth. Packs use the real pull rates of each booster, with foils and special treatments. Find it in the menu bar, or move it anywhere in Settings → Arrange Menu.
Layout fix
Fixed a layout bug: in some layouts (like 3 players), a card that should be full width was cut in half, leaving an empty space.
Smaller and easier to find
The app is smaller to download, and the App Store now lists all the languages Lotus speaks.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.15.1 19 Oct
Lotus in your language
Lotus now speaks German, French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese, with the same Magic terms as the cards in your language. It follows your phone's language, and you can pick another one in Settings → Language.
Card Search
Double-faced cards have a Turn Over button, Kamigawa flip cards a Flip button, and any printing opens full screen. Your recent searches show above the search field, the most played cards come first, and the card page lists the official rulings.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.14.0 17 Oct
Feedback in the app
Got Feedback? in Settings now opens a short form right in Lotus: pick Bug, Idea or Something else, write a few words and send. Add your email if you'd like an answer.
Fixes
The label shown when you pin the dice to the main screen no longer sits under the camera.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.13.1 15 Oct
Search in Settings
Settings has a search field at the top. It finds settings, help videos and Players by the words you'd use, like "who goes first", "backup" or "notch", even with typos. Turn settings on and off right in the results, and help videos open directly.
Fixes
Typing works again in text fields on iOS 15 (card search, player and profile names, messages). The Colors & Backgrounds help video shows its card art again.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.13.0 14 Oct
Commander damage in 1-player games
Swipe your card sideways in a 1-player game to track commander damage: your own commander first (split into Commander and Partner if you have one), then your opponents in a scrollable list. Start with 3 opponents and add up to 9. Damage lowers your life and shows on your card.
Avoid Camera Cutout
A new setting on phones with a notch or Dynamic Island keeps the player cards clear of it at the top of the screen.
More help videos
Help now also shows card direction, colors and backgrounds, profiles, commander damage on cards, victory and defeat messages, pinned counters, playing below 0, and Monarch, Initiative and Day/Night.
Fixes
With an account, the number of players and the layout now stay on each device. A tablet on 4 players could turn a phone's running game into a single card in a 4-player grid.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.12.0 12 Oct
Player card direction
Players now has a Player card direction row at the top: keep each layout's own mix, or turn every player card to face up, down, left or right, in any 2 to 10 player layout. Made for a tablet on a stand, a phone off to the side, streaming or casting to a TV. The 2-player Same Direction and Facing Sides options moved here, and a saved choice is carried over.
Fixes
Monarch, Initiative and Day/Night now stay when you close the app or change the card direction.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.11.0 11 Oct
Accounts
Settings now has an Account section. Sign in with Apple, Google or an email address and your settings, profiles, custom messages and game history follow you to every device, including lifecounter.app. Sign in on a second device and it picks everything up; changes sync in the background and a running game is never touched. If both the account and the device have data, Lotus combines them and asks once which settings to keep. Your uploaded backgrounds, profile pictures and logo come along too, and you can link Apple and Google to the same account. Sign out keeps everything on the device; Delete account removes everything from the account. Lotus works exactly as before without an account.
Export and import your data
Export Data saves one file with all your games, profiles, uploaded images, custom messages and settings. Import Data brings such a file back on this or another device.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.10.0 10 Oct
Treachery
Play Treachery, the hidden-role Commander variant for 4 to 10 players. Turn it on under Settings, Game Modes, tap the Treachery button and pass the phone around. Each player holds to see their secret identity, or scans a QR code to see it on their own phone. The Leader is face up and goes first, identities can be unveiled from the table, and Lotus calls the winning team. Roles and the winner are saved in History and on game recaps.
Arrange your menu
Under Settings, Arrange Menu you can put the menu entries in your own order, move them between the round menu and the bar below it, and give the round buttons any color.
Profile folders
Sort your profiles into folders, and drag profiles and folders into any order.
Help with demos
The Help button now shows short animated demos of how Lotus works.
Also new
Tap the ? next to Game Modes in Settings to read what each mode does. See every past update under See What's New at the bottom of Settings.
Fixes
After you tap Stop casting, Lotus no longer starts casting again the next time you open it. Settings scrolls from anywhere on tablets.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.9.0 9 Oct
Profiles remember names
Saving a profile now keeps the player name, and loading it puts the name back on the card. You can also search your profiles by player name.
Fixes
Turning the game timer on or off in Settings no longer resets how long the current game has been running, so the time saved in History is right.
Lotus starts normally again if some of its saved data gets damaged.
Claiming a Bounty works again when every Bounty card is turned off.
Recap images now show player names with an apostrophe or an ampersand correctly.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.8.2 6 Oct
Cast to TV
Put your game on the big screen. Turn on "Allow spectators" in Settings, then open the menu and tap Cast to TV. You'll get a 5-letter code and a QR code. Enter the code on your Apple TV to see everyone's life total, commander damage, poison, counters and whose turn it is, live and with every player facing the right way.
People watching can move players around on their own screen, vote on who's going to win and, if you allow it, chat. Messages only appear on the watch screen, never on your phone. The code stays the same for the whole evening, so the TV automatically follows every new game.
Game recaps
After a game, tap Share recap in the menu or in History to get a link with the winner, a graph of everyone's life total over the game, knock-outs, the biggest hit and the commander damage. It works for older games in your history too. You can hide player names before you send it.
Nothing is shared unless you turn on Allow spectators or tap Share recap. Details are in the privacy policy.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.8.0 6 Oct
A big round of bug fixes. Thanks to everyone who reported problems.
Crashes and stuck screens
"Restore default background colors" no longer breaks Lotus on layouts with an empty spot (some 3, 5 and 7 player layouts). If it happened to you, Lotus repairs itself the next time you open it. Lotus also starts normally again if some of its saved data gets damaged, and picking a new layout and then tapping Cancel no longer causes a crash.
Planechase and Archenemy
Planechase now has all 207 planes. Before, the last 32 alphabetically never showed up. Opening it without a connection no longer leaves it empty, and the planar die no longer crashes when every plane is turned off. In Archenemy, an ongoing scheme you abandon stays abandoned.
History
Deleting several games in a row now removes the ones you picked. The last life change before closing the app is kept, restarting resets the Bounty card, and games in 1-player mode no longer fill your history with empty wins. The turn counter keeps counting when the last player of a round dies on their own turn. Older games show each life change under the right player again.
Backgrounds and profiles
Cropping a photo saves exactly what you see instead of stretching it. Profiles with an emoji or an apostrophe in the name can be shared again, and loading a profile updates partner commander tax correctly. "Reset App" now really deletes your uploaded images, old background images no longer pile up on your phone, and you get a message if an image can't be saved because your storage is full.
Everything else
Card search finds names with symbols like "R&D's Secret Lair", shows the newest results when you type fast, and tells you when you're offline. Restricted cards show as restricted instead of not legal. "Toggle all" buttons work on the first tap, tapping OK twice no longer saves things twice, the Support screen shows prices as soon as they load, and you'll see far fewer "restart the game?" prompts that showed up for no reason.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.7.6 25 Sept
GIFs you upload as a player background move again. Since last year they were saved as a still picture; now they keep playing on the card.
The keyboard is easier to close. There's a Done button above it again, and in card search you can tap Return or "View all prints" to put it away, so it no longer covers the cards you're looking at.
Under the hood, Lotus is ready for iOS 27.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.7.5 19 Sept
Lotus has no ads and never will. If you'd like to help keep it that way, you can now support it from inside the app under Settings, Support Lotus. Nothing is locked behind it, and nothing ever will be. Every feature stays free for everyone, exactly as it was.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.7.4 25 Aug
Fixed a bug where the card search field could slip behind the keyboard, so you couldn't see what you were typing. Text inputs now stay above the keyboard.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.7.2 28 July
Fixed a bug from the last update where assigning commander damage didn't lower a player's life total until you changed their life again. Commander damage now drops the life total right away.
You can also choose how the main-screen clock shows the time — there's a new Use 24-Hour Time switch under Show Current Time.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.7.1 24 June
You can now name your players. Set a name from a player card's menu and it shows right on the card. As you type, quick-pick chips suggest names you've used before, so you rarely have to type the same one twice. Names also appear in your game history, and you can edit or delete any of them from the full names list. There's a setting to turn card names on or off.
You can also pin the dice to your main screen. Pin a single die — or the whole dice roller — to one of the main-screen spots, so it's always one tap away. Rolling it there plays the same animation as the full dice overlay.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.7.0 19 June
Player profiles got a big rework. They live in a proper gallery now — give each one a name, mark favorites to keep them at the top, and search through them once you’ve saved a few. Every profile has its own menu to rename, duplicate, share, or delete it.
You can also set a counter to an exact value: tap the middle of its +/− controls to open a keypad and type the number, the same way you already can for life totals.
Two-player games have a new layout option too. With Facing Sides, both life totals turn sideways to face the same edge of the screen — so you can lay the phone flat between you and your opponent and you both read it the right way up.
And like the commander and victory messages, you can now edit the poison defeat messages. Write your own send-off for that tenth poison counter.
Under the hood, profiles are now stored more safely, so they won’t get dropped if your device’s storage fills up.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.6.5 12 June
You can now pin counters to your player cards. Pick the ones you always want in view — like commander tax — and they’ll stay on every card, even across new games.
We also added a Speed counter for "Start your engines!", plus a new option to underline the 6 and 9 so they’re easy to tell apart when a card is read upside down across the table.
A few more additions:
- Commander damage defeat messages are now editable, just like the regular defeat and victory messages
- Custom single tap value: set how much a single +/− tap changes life, the same way you already can for long press
- The game timer now stops on its own when someone wins
Bug fixes and improvements:
- Fixed the +/− tap area sometimes staying darkened after lots of quick taps
- Fixed a few commander damage glitches when multiple players acted at the same time
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.6.4 11 June
This update fixes a bug where the screen could turn off during games. The issue started with the update from December 16 and has been affecting some players for almost two weeks. We’re really sorry for the frustration this caused.
We had already tried fixing it earlier, but it turns out the problem was deeper than we thought. It should now be fully resolved.
Huge thanks to everyone who reported the issue and shared details. If you still notice the screen going to sleep, please let us know.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.6.3 1 Jan
New feature: you can now show the current time directly on the main screen, so you don’t get lost in long games or late-night sessions.
We also fixed an issue where the screen could go to sleep for some users. If you’re still seeing problems, please let us know.
Plus a few layout fixes and small tweaks.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.6.1 22/12/2025
This is a big one.
We’ve completely upgraded the game history. Instead of only showing life changes, you can now give games a name, see all players, set nicknames, choose format and variation, and browse a full list of your previous games. It’s much easier to look back at what you played and how the game went.
We also added the Bounty game mode. This brings the Bounty mechanic from Outlaws of Thunder Junction into Lotus, making it easy to track bounties during your games.
On top of that, we added a small but highly requested feature: you can now export and import all profiles. This makes it easy to set things up on one device and move everything to another.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.6.0 18/12/2025
Offline mode is here.
Lotus now works properly without an internet connection. Only online features like card search and card images require internet.
New requested feature: You can now set custom values for long pressing the + and − buttons. The default is 10, but you can change it to values like 5, which is handy for games like Flesh and Blood.
Thanks for playing with Lotus!
2.5.2 16/12/2025
