PlantPal is a plant care journal with watering reminders, made for houseplant lovers by one indie developer. Track every plant you own, get reminded when it’s time to water or feed, and keep a photo diary of how each one grows.
Now with Apple Intelligence on iOS 27, PlantPal can identify a plant from a photo and look it up in the Plant Library. You can also ask Siri to find a plant or check what’s due today.

Set a schedule per plant and let PlantPal remind you. Running late? Snooze with one tap and jump back into rhythm. PlantPal keeps you consistent without guilt-tripping.

* On the plant detail screen, the toolbar now lets you move, archive or delete a plant.
* Thumbnails, name fonts and layout are now consistent across the app.
* It’s much faster to search and find plants in the PlantPal Library.
* We’ve improved the experience for new users with helpful tips across the app—you might discover something as a long‑time user, too.

2026.16 23 June
G'day, plant parents. This update includes minor UI and localisation fixes. It also resolves an issue that prevented widgets from refreshing correctly in some cases.
Thanks — we hope you enjoy the update. Happy planting!
2026.15 9 June
G’day plant parents! This update brings improvements to make PlantPal smoother and clearer:
What’s new
* Home Screen task widget redesigned to show tasks broken down by type. See at a glance whether today’s about watering or if there’s more to do.
* Live Activity redesigned to show your remaining tasks — for today or when you’re time travelling to the future.
* Live Activity now starts intentionally when you check off a task (instead of starting as soon as you open PlantPal). This reduces the chance of seeing Live Activity when you can’t act (for example, when you’re not at home).
Fixed
* Photo Home Screen widget sometimes didn’t open the photo when tapped — fixed.
* Live Activity sometimes reset your time-travel settings when tapped — fixed.
* Some button images didn’t display correctly on iOS 18 — fixed.
* Home Screen widgets sometimes failed to load from the background — fixed.
* App could crash when moving to the background — fixed.
Enjoy the update! We’d love your feedback or suggestions.
2026.14 22 May
G’day, plant parents! This update improves task notifications to help you get things done and keep your plants thriving.
- Set up notifications for when you return home — a great complement to time-based reminders.
- Snooze notifications for 20 minutes or 1 hour — long press a notification to get another reminder shortly.
Location-based notifications require access to your precise location and need “Always” access. PlantPal respects your privacy and battery life. It doesn’t run continuously in the background; instead it registers the area with iOS and is notified when the system detects you’ve returned home.
For power users, PlantPal now includes two Shortcuts actions so you can automate it however you like:
- The "Send Notification" action sends a PlantPal notification if there are tasks remaining. Connect this action to your own triggers — location, time of day, Focus status, etc.
- The "Get Task Summary" action returns a text string when tasks are due. Use that text in follow-up custom actions such as Messages.
Other fixes and improvements:
- Morning Summary notifications used to light the screen. Fixed — now they won’t light the screen, vibrate or play a sound.
- Fixed an issue where changes to a room’s colour might not save properly.
- Updated the notification sound — now more modern and cheerful, while keeping a slight sense of urgency.
- Redesigned the report-issue view in the plant library. The new layout shows exactly what you send us for transparency and lets you add more comments and context.
Hope you enjoy the update! Please get in touch if you have any questions or feedback.
2026.13 20 May
G’day plant parents! This update adds a timeline view for your plants — an easy way to see everything at a glance: task records, photos and text notes. You can now add text notes to record important details.
• Timeline view: add text notes, write captions on photos and see care task records in one clean, chronological place.
• One-tap swap: switch back to the classic photo grid with a single tap — still the best compact view for all your plant photos.
• Quick notes: tap the + button in the task list to add text notes directly.
Also updated or fixed:
• You can now add the date you added the plant to your collection. (PlantPal may infer a date automatically from photo and task timestamps.)
• Fixed an issue where the plant widget always showed the “Archived” badge.
Hope you enjoy this update — we’d love your feedback and suggestions!
2026.12 5 May
G'day plant parents! This update brings new features and improvements:
◎ Plant widget — Pin a plant to your Home Screen
Add a new Home Screen widget to pin a plant from your collection. Tap the widget to open that plant straight away — an easy way to keep an eye on your favourite.
◎ Bug fixes and improvements
* Task repeat options expanded: choose intervals that suit you — 1–30 days, 1–20 weeks or 1–12 months. The stepper won’t force jumps between days/weeks/months anymore.
* Fixed random thumbnail changes when multiple photos are in a plant note.
* Fixed incorrect or incomplete labels and AI-generated text in the app and plant library.
Hope you enjoy the update! Send us feedback or suggestions. Happy planting!
2026.11 22 Apr
G’day, plant parents! We’ve updated how you can customise care tasks for your plants, and what you can do in the app for free.
◎ Customisable tasks
Now you can do and track even more with tasks:
* Customise how the task appears in your list. For example, if you’ve been doing semi-hydro planting, you can rename “Water” to “Top up” or “Flush”.
* Create multiple tasks of the same type. Handy when you need to apply more than one fertiliser, or when you occasionally need special treatments involving watering or pesticides.
* Add text notes to each task, so you can remember important info like dose or strength.
* Enable or disable a task so it no longer shows in your list, just like archiving.
◎ Do more for free
We’ve changed what’s available for free:
* Manage 20 plants for free (up from 5)
* No more third-party ads in the app
* For free users, only watering tasks are available
◎ Other updates
Some improvements to the app:
* PlantPal is now localised for Italian.
* We reorganised sections on the plant detail page to make it clearer across the different aspects of your plants.
* Added more external search providers. Jump to an installed app using your plant search query in one tap for Bilibili, YouTube, Safari (using your set search engine), and Zhihu.
Some issues were fixed:
* On the plant detail page, Garden Day may have applied to all 7 days, regardless of your settings. Fixed.
* In My Plants, plants may not align vertically. Fixed.
* In the Plant Library, each plant’s watering and light needs are now shown more clearly with a new meter design.
Thanks for using PlantPal. Hope you enjoy this update! Let us know if you have any questions or feedback. Happy planting!
2026.10 6 Apr
Hello plant parents! This update brings new and refreshed entries to the plant library — now with 504 plants.
* Corrected details for existing plants, including scientific names and local common names.
* Trimmed a few unnecessary entries, especially cultivars that cluttered search results.
* Added dozens of new succulents, mostly from the Crassula family.
* Added heaps of subspecies and cultivars of edibles like lettuce, tomato, radish, and cucumber/squash.
* Added a bunch of popular annual flowers from around the world.
* Refreshed images for edibles and herbs so they look more like what you buy at the shops and grow in a small garden.
* Added common cultivars of favourite evergreens such as ZZ, Monstera, and Syngonium.
Hope you enjoy the update! If you’ve got feedback or suggestions, we’d love to hear them.
2026.9 24 Mar
Greetings, plant parents! This release is a big one, just in time for the new season.
◎ Improved Plant Library
We have redesigned the plant library so it is quicker to search, more accurate to match, and more helpful for everyday care.
- Fully localised: Search and match plants in your own language. Works even if you use more than one language.
- Works offline: the library can still be used without an internet connection.
- 200+ new plants, including popular herbs, fruit, and veg from around the world.
- Richer info and images: We used generative AI to help fill in photos, descriptions, and tags, making the library more useful when you are deciding how to care for a plant.
◎ Garden Day for your tasks (Pro)
For Pro Members, we are introducing Garden Day, a simpler way to keep a realistic weekly rhythm with your plants.
- One focused care day: Pick one day of the week as Garden Day. A rabbit icon and orange tint make it stand out in your task list.
- See what is coming up: On Garden Day, PlantPal shows tasks that are due soon, so you can batch watering, pruning, and repotting instead of chasing them every day.
- Stay light on other days: On non–Garden Days, you only see tasks due that day, which keeps the list short and manageable.
◎ More ways to repeat a task
Your plants follow the seasons, and now your tasks can, too.
- Seasonal repeats: Set tasks to repeat only in specific months. For example, schedule a deep clean or reshaping for early spring and late autumn, and keep your list uncluttered for the rest of the year.
- Flexible intervals: Make tasks repeat every X weeks or every X months, such as watering every 3 weeks or fertilising every 2 months, so you do not have to remember the pattern yourself.
◎ App improvements and bug fixes
We fixed a long list of issues to help the app run more smoothly.
We hope this update makes it easier to learn about your plants, keep a realistic routine, and enjoy your garden. We always welcome your feedback and suggestions.
2026.8 17 Mar
Hi plant parents! This version focuses on polishing the app.
Photo Library improvements:
* If you open a photo from your Photo Library without the right permissions, you’ll now be prompted to grant or update access.
* We’ve refreshed the labels and messages for saving photos to your Photo Library, making it clearer so you can choose what suits you.
UI improvements:
* On iOS 26, when you long‑press a plant, the menu now appears side by side with the plant thumbnail. On iPad, the thumbnail also has a neat hover effect when using Apple Pencil.
* Similarly, on iOS 26, long‑pressing a photo thumbnail shows the menu side by side with the photo thumbnail, with the same Apple Pencil hover effect on iPad.
Bug fixes:
* On iOS 18, some confirmation alerts for deleting plants, photos, rooms and more might not show all available buttons. Fixed.
* On iOS 18, when creating a new plant or editing notes, the Save button might have appeared as “Confirm”. Fixed — these buttons now correctly show “Save”.
* When a new day starts or the system time zone changes, the task list might not refresh properly. Fixed.
Hope you enjoy this update! We’d love to hear your feedback or suggestions.
2026.5 3 Mar
Hi plant parents! This update brings improvements to your care tasks.
◎ Filter and focus
We’ve redesigned the task list to work better for power users:
- See what’s on for today: is it just watering, or do you need to grab the fertiliser too? Now you can tell at a glance.
- Filter tasks by type: for example, focus on plants that need fertilising first.
- When you’re done with a plant, hide it from the list so you can focus on what’s next.
- Expand task details and jump straight to the plant page or task history.
◎ Bug fixes
- Live Activity could sometimes start more than one instance at once. Fixed.
- Tasks could still show as “Due Today” after you completed them that day. Fixed.
- On the plant page and photo list, photo thumbnails could jitter when opening or closing the long-press menu. Fixed.
- The app could crash when receiving a large number of updates from iCloud. Fixed.
We hope you enjoy this update! Let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions.
2026.4 17 Feb

2026.3 4 Feb
Hi plant parents! This update includes a few minor fixes and polish after the 2026.1 language updates.
- When using PlantPal on multiple devices, if a plant or photo was deleted on another device, the page on your other devices could appear blank. Fixed — you’ll now see a clear message explaining the plant or photo was deleted.
- Live Activity sometimes didn’t start properly on iOS and iPadOS 26+. Fixed.
- The “Move…” menu could fail to work for some plants in your list. Fixed.
- We’ve added a subtle visual cue for plants that are selected and open in the plant list. This makes it easier to see which plant you’ve got selected on iPad when using the 3‑column layout.
- We’ve refreshed the wording and tooltips for the “Filter” feature in the plant list to make the filter button’s purpose clearer.
We’re also ending support for importing data from a backup. The wording for “Data Export” has been updated to show it’s no longer a backup feature — PlantPal still supports data portability, and you can export your data to another app.
Enjoy the update, and feel free to send through any questions or feedback.
