I love the questions and the length it will let you write in the profile. The biggest problem is causing OKCupid to lose money. I want you to fix this because I want you to keep making money so that you’ll keep OkCupid running so that my profile will stay up and I will meet my perfect match.You need to allow free members to see messages that other people have sent them, even if they have not matched yet.Please. Just do it. You will make so much more money through your A-list purchases. Everyone else wants this feature. I promise. You can keep them in a seperate “other” category to the messages from matches.

From what I understand, their premium subscription service price scales with the number of likes you receive. So if you only have a few likes it will be much cheaper to see them. I purchased a month of premium to view my 500+ likes. It cost me $89. I opened them, had a quick flick through and put the app down for a bit to do something else. About an hour later, I opened the app again and I only had 7 likes. Nearly 500 likes disappeared in an hour. When I tried to contact their support about this bug, they said everyone must have unmatched with me or changed their preferences or deleted their account. This is ridiculous and impossible! I would understand if it was only 50 people or so but we’re talking about 500 people! It’s either a bug they are unwilling to fix, or it’s a flat out scam. Very disappointed, I’m down nearly $90 with nothing to show for it.

Whether users actually use this space or say anything meaningful though is of course variable. The messaging on the site is a little poor when it comes to loading properly/quickly but isn’t too bad. I suppose the real issue is how much you really can tell about your compatibility with any person by what they actually write on a profile. And on another note, I have paid for Okcupid briefly but found that all those who had viewed my profile had already been cycled past me by the site at some point anyway so that is both good and a reason not to pay for the premium ;)
