"Catan", the legendary strategy game provides gaming fun anytime, anywhere.

True to the original game, you can compete with up to four players for the most settlements, the longest roads and the largest army. You can trade with each other and claim the precious land with all its resources.

Challenge other Catan fans online via cross-platform multiplayer to prove your strategy skills or play against the AI:
Various computer opponents, each with their own individual characteristics, will prove themselves worthy competitors: the pirate Jean, who knows no compromise, Vincent the merchant, who never allows himself to be cheated, Sean the knight, who takes what is rightfully his...

The popular Catan expansions "Seafarers", "Cities and Knights" and two new special scenarios are available as In-App purchases.

The complete Seafarers expansion includes more than 10 additional scenarios with an extensive campaign. Become Harbormaster, discover new islands and extra game elements like ships, gold fields, treasures and pirates. Ahoy!

The Cities and Knights expansion introduces various new gameplay mechanics that add even more variety to Catan. Invest new trade goods in city improvements to build one of the three metropolises of Catan – but beware of the barbarians attracted by Catan’s new wealth! You’ll need your best knights to fend them off! C&K contains a short campaign and 7 challenging maps.

Exciting adventures await you in the two new scenarios "Enchanted Land" and "The Great Canal". Vanquish dragons and bag their treasures or build a canal to help barren grain fields bloom once more.

Catan FAQ:

Question: An expansion seems gone after an update or reinstallation of Catan or after restoring the device?
Answer: Don’t worry, your initial purchase is already saved in your iTunes account. You can restore your InApp purchases by selecting the restore-option in the Catan IAP menu.

Question: I lost my campaign progress after reinstalling, updating or restoring my device. Is there any way to restore it?
Answer: When saved games can’t be automatically restored, we’ve integrated a cheat code: In the campaign mode go to select player and enter "CatanWarp*" (* = 1–15) as your player name and confirm. Exit the game via the home button and restart it. The campaign can now be continued from the specified level number (1–15). Levels up to the specified number will be unlocked in the custom game mode as well.

Question: Are dice rolls really random?
Answer: Of course! All dice rolls are 100% random and not modified in any way. We’re avid Catan players ourselves. We’ve played the iOS version hundreds of times while developing the program. There have been times when we won and lost a few games in a row because of the dice - just like when playing the board game!

Good game but lots of bugs for the price

This is a great game but there are lots of bugs that haven't been fixed despite being in there for at least a year. For example when you are playing the dialogue boxes rendering at some point (almost every game) so you cant read the information and you cant see your cards. You exit to main menu and select continue game, then it works again. Also it is a bit inclined to crash when you open it.

Despite the programming errors, this game is a lot of fun particularly when you have lots of time to kill like on a flight. The difficulty level of the AI players seems about right For me (usually, some of them are a bit easy but you can select the harder ones manually)

Best of all the Catan options out there.

I’ve had this app for several years now and paid for the seafarers and cities and knights expansions. I’m an avid fan of the board game the app is based on and play it often. When it comes to online gaming, this is the best option by far. Yes, occasionally it can be a little glitchy. But it’s very occasionally! My friends and I often find that you can just log off and come back in with little fuss. We play using this app almost every single day. I’ve also downloaded Catan Universe. It’s horrible! Graphics is terrible, interface is ugly and half the time you can’t tell what is happening. Also very hard to use, can’t choose player colour. The list goes on. It does seem to allow 6 players though. As far as I can see that is it’s only advantage. I’ve only used Colonist and my experience wasn’t great either. So basically, if you’re serious about Catan, this is the one!

I have some queries

I love Catan and this app certainly does it justice with a great interface and aesthetic and I can spend hours playing game after game.

However such repetition has has provided an insight into some mechanics of the game that I'm not too keen on. Firstly, the 'randomly generated' board obviously has some rules about such as that the 2 and 12 hexes are always along the coast and you'll never find situations such as two very productive wheat hexes with a wheat port between them which I dislike because situations like that only add to the excitement. Also the AI's in custom game are incredibly predictable and will do things like never place a starting settlement not around 3 hexes and never put the robber on one of your hexes until you've built a settlement/city.

Overall though I would absolutely recommend this app and these are only minor qualms with its operation.

(Also on iPad 4 I can't play online because the app crashes whenever I try and I'm not sure whether that's the app's fault or just my hardware limitations but if it's the app then pls sort that right out)
