NOTES
Download the app on Wi-Fi from your network at home or use any free Wi-Fi network. Because the app is filled with audio commentary and maps, its larger than "normal" apps. Many phone/data networks may block the download because of size - so it's important to download over a Wi-Fi network.
CHARGING:
++ Continued use of GPS/Location Services in the background increases battery usage. We strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charge to keep your phone charged, and avoid charging through the USB port.
AUDIO:
Listen directly from your phone or connect to the car stereo via Bluetooth. Avoid using a direct connection to the USB port of a rental vehicle as this can cause audio issues. The audio can play through your car’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto display, please note that the map will display only on your phone.
IPADS:
** iPad models must include a GPS chip. Please note only the iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular models of iPad contain a GPS chip. Wi-Fi-only iPad models have limited location service capabilities and are unable to play commentary automatically.
DOWNLOADING:
The apps are larger in size in order to work offline. You must download the app ahead of time over Wi-Fi (recommended) or cellular data. Once downloaded, you can tour offline without cell service.

This is the best app we have ever used. We downloaded off a tip from a fellow traveler and found this guide to be so amazing! The narration is entertaining and informative about the history, the geology, the people and wildlife of the journey. Every viewpoint, hike, point of interest is explained in great and interesting detail. You get tips on must see places and places to skip based on your time limit. What would have been a pretty but only scenic drive turned into a fascinating journey through time and history giving us so much insight into the area. If you are a car or motor home traveler this is a must have app. You’ve spent so much money and time to get there don’t skimp and miss learning all about where you are in depth! We nicknamed the narrator Steven and we downloaded for Icefield Parkway Canadian Rockies plus Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Yosemite. Well done gypsy guides and thank you for making our trip!
This app is a must buy!

The best investment we made by far for our recent trip to Canada. We called him Gerard, and he seriously made our trip. Not only did he help us with itineraries and planning our days, but we learnt so much about Canada and the sights we visited, and were charmed by the stories he told that you just wouldn’t get from a book or even regular guided tours. Gerard was a delightful companion on our tour from Vancouver through the Rockies. I can’t recommend this app highly enough. I hope they release more versions for trips all around the world.

An indispensable app. That the narration came on when appropriate was a great application of GPS. The amount of narrative was great and we learned things that we would not have got from books. The walks suggested were excellent, but after walking the Parker Ridge on their advice, taking the recommendation to do the Icefields Explorer was a real comedown which took 3 hours out of our day and cost $120 per head. Otherwise, it was a sensational day, even if we missed a couple of walks due to the ‘attraction’.
Developer Response
For most people, this would be the only opportunity they will have in their life to actually walk on a glacier. That's unique enough that we would never tell people to avoid. Just to be clear, we do not take any payments or commissions for things we talk about on the tours. It's a shame to be "accused" of this. We present the tours thinking along the lines of what information we would want our friends and family to know about if they were visiting.
Brilliant!

We use this app for the Icefields Parkway and also the one for the Banff Townsite tour. Definitely buy them. They added so many extra dimensions to our tours, with geological information, historical vignettes, little jokes and practical tips and suggestions along the way. Technically, they work perfectly. It was just like having a tour guide in the car. If we visit other areas with Gypsy Guides available, we will definitely buy them.
