AudioSwitcher is a menu bar that allows you to switch quickly between all available input and output devices. In addition you can change the volume and other properties of each device without having to change your current input / output.
You can quickly change the sample rate or output to multiple devices at the same time.
AudioSwitcher supports any device directly attached to the host system: USB, DisplayPort, HDMI, Thunderbolt and Bluetooth.
It does not support AirPlay or AirPlay 2 devices.
AudioSwitcher is ideal if you have multiple sound devices attached to your Mac and want to be able to switch between them without having to use System Preferences.
Things to be aware of:
- If you have headphones physically plugged in then your internal speakers are disabled for some Apple hardware.
- Apple no longer allows 3rd party apps to see or view AirPlay devices
- HDMI contains no volume information: volume control is the responsibilty of the device that renders audio, eg, the monitor, TV etc. This is why you can't adjust volume via software

Does the job reliably

Deviates from UI conventions a little, which can take some getting used to
Good app

I have this app on both my computers and it works as advertised. However, in the settings, the setting for open on start-up just doesn't work. Everytime I start-up my computers, I have to open the app everytime. Maybe in the preferences there needs a Save button whenever a change is made to. the preferences.
Does its job and does it well

This app does the job that it claims to very well. When the Sound System Preference just doesn’t meet your needs this app will give you the options and the control that you need.Great for conferences, seminars and multimedia where you need to access the sound options with finer choice more easily.
AirPlay lets it down ...

A well designed, functional and great value utility (I've paid much more for significantly less). I procured this specifically to give the sort of single/multiple output control seen in iTunes to all my audio sources. AudioSwitcher has difficulty in doing this consistently and smoothly. Curiously, AirPlays to my Samsung speakers but not to Airport Express audio. Also seems easy to get "confused" when dealing with AirPlay. I understand AirPlay (especially multiple) has a reputation for complexity but iTunes (mostly) manages to get this right. There are other solutions I know, but am unwilling to spend tens of dollars on something (multiple AirPlay) I believe Apple should have as platform (not applicattion) capability. If the AirPlay can be sorted out it I would rate AudioSwitcher 5 stars - especially at the price. Keep your eye on this one!
- Fixes to the priority screen to stop priorities being lower than 0
- Fixes to the priority screen to stop devices automatically sorting based on priority
