This could've been SO great as a codex alternative, great for list building, great for being able to just go to one place and having everything you need to know right there, But it isn't. And that's because the app actually CAN do that, except, there's ONE problem: In order to do any of those things above the most basic level, you need to do something. You guessed it: Pay money. Now, if you play the game regularly, you would know that almost everything costs money. But, usually rules... don't. And that's because you can't really actually PLAY a game without rules. You just have to guess and assume. So, in theory, this app would've been an incredible way to access all the rules anywhere for free. Except, the keyword there is FREE. Nothing except the basic functions of this app is free. And that's horrible. GW is treating players like we actually owe them anything. But, we owe them absolutely nothing. GW, though? They owe us an apology. Rules should be free, universally. But now, GW wants us to pay in order to even play the game. That's not okay GW. Please change. As evidenced with the latest update after the Tyranid Codex release, the long-term usability of this app is questionable. Prior to this update, he app was an excellent tool to look up the basic rules/datasheets of another faction without needing to consult an opponent. As far as I am concerned, I would have paid an extra fee for access to all of these rules, even if codex specific aspects, e.g. new detachments, remained locked to codex purchases.With the paywall creeping in as each faction’s codex is released, it is evident that the usability of this app is limited. The ability for rules and updates to be instantly accessible as they’re released is one of the biggest benefits to the app, but these benefits are overshadowed by the negatives on the horizon.

Subscribed users of the 40K app should really have access to all of the rules.I feel that those that purchase codexes or other rule books should be able to access them on here whether they pay or not.The subscription option should cover access to all rules that come out.The benefit of the codex is the lore, artwork and all of that. Especially as the rules get updated and the codexes themselves quickly become deadweight beyond the lore and artwork.GW you can pivot into the future and improve. Please listen to your player base. This hobby is so expensive already. Life is expensive. Invest in accessibility for at least the rules to get people interested in trying new armies and such. There are so many ways to access the rules for free these days that not allowing an affordable and sustainable option for just the rules does not force people to buy codexes. Instead, it alienates your player base pushing many to other sources to access and enjoy your hobby and makes GW feel out of touch, or even parasitic, to its loyal fanbase.Getting players to interact with GW through GW apps is huge. It builds on the relationship players have with GW and its IP, and reduces use of 3rd party apps and websites.It’s a shame Apple takes a cut of purchases through apps as the app having a portal to purchase codexes and models would have been great.Another great idea that could be used for the App for subscribed players is an armory or something where you can store what models you own which could assist list building.

The app itself is pretty great. I particularly enjoy the “Command Bunker” feature, and quick reference rules. Accessing new rules on the other hand, is horrible. I can understand paywalling content, but not allowing a user to purchase a codex’s rules in the app is unintuitive. Not only that, rules should added the day of updates and codex releases. If there were more incentives to subscribe to WH+ other than getting more roster slots, I may consider continuing my subscription. Perhaps adding an in-app CP and VP counter. Even adding any compatibility with Crusade rules or rules/campaigns from older editions would be fantastic additions
