The only app that really outshined every other text to audio apps was this one, since it was free and had really good AI voices with it. Now this update ruined it, I wouldn’t have minded if it was like $8 a month to have 100 hours, I would fine with that but $15 a month? For only 30 hours a month, I listen to at least 30 hours a fortnight. I’ll still use the app for now, but they need to fix the pricing

Almost perfect - one feature gap away from five stars
simonives
ElevenReader is genuinely impressive. The voice quality is in a league of its own compared to other TTS apps, and the continuous playback through an entire epub is exactly right for listening while exercising. The reason this isn't five stars comes down to one missing feature: cross-app reading position sync.My use case is simple but common. I read epubs in Apple Books at home and in the office, then want to switch to ElevenReader to have the same book read to me during workouts and exercise. Right now these are two separate experiences with two separate positions, which means I either have to manually find my place or commit to one app entirely and lose the benefits of the other. What would make this five stars. and likely bring across a significant number of readers who live in Apple Books, is some form of position sync with Apple Books, or a robust enough reading experience within ElevenReader itself that it becomes the single app for both reading and listening. The voice quality is already there. The continuous playback is already there. This one gap is the only thing keeping ElevenReader from being my permanent home for books.
Too expensive!!!

Updated review. Ok 1st thing to add to my previous review, please add a way to change pronunciation in the app!!!!!!! It was pronouncing a name wrong in a story I was reading and I couldn’t find a way to change it, drove me insane I couldn’t keep listening. Secondly I wanna point out is, I am a brand new user. I never used this app when it was free, I’ve only ever used the subscription version. I completely understand needing a subscription to support the development off the app/services, I was/am using & paying for natural reader which has a subscription itself. It’s only aud$35 a month or aud$199 a year tho. This app after conversion is aud$55 a month (I haven’t even bothered converting the yearly subscription as it was more expensive even without converting the currency), which again for an app like this is stupidly expensive. I would also like to point out that you do not make users aware in the app that you charge in usd, so I had no idea until I was charged more than I expected. If it was aud$35 a month like natural reader and you had a way to change pronunciation in app I’d race to start using this app again, as otherwise I loved this app, way more than any other of it’s kind. As for right now tho I’ll stick to using natural reader.

Thanks for the detailed feedback, FeeRose93. Totally hear you, pronunciation control is a highly requested feature and on our radar. And yes, pricing clarity is crucial; I’ve shared your note about currency visibility with the team. Your insights really help shape what comes next.
How to evaporate your app’s goodwill in an instant
prohairesis
I have been an avid supporter of ElevenReader, and further back to Omnivore. I have recommended ER it to countless people, and have relied on ElevenReader itself to assist with symptoms of dyslexia.I won’t be recommending it to others anymore.I knew ultimately ElevenLabs would monetise this service. But I’m not impressed with how it’s been handled.I was recently met with a notification on opening the ER app that said I would “need to update the app” to continue use. No further explanation. I check the update notes for the most recent available App Store update, which said it was simply for “performance enhancements”. Fair enough. But there weren’t any “performance enhancements”. In fact, the update was a covert and full monetisation of the app, without any prior notice or forewarning, and misleading users in the update notes.Saying an update is for “performance enhancements”, forcing users to update, and then suddenly pulling out the rug and demanding cash is /not/ the way to treat a loyal user base. It is how you immediately evaporate your goodwill. While the substance of the update itself is benign, the /manner/ in which ElevenLabs has rolled it out suggests to me this is not an outfit that I could trust or support with any subscription or payments, nor recommend others do the same.I’m sad to say that too, given how much it helped my reading comprehension. But it is what it is.
