Description

Introducing the newest Australian Electronic Flight Bag (EFB), Ignition EFB.

Track your medical & flight reviews, Plan your flights with ease, Log your memories, Manage your aircraft, and your airfield, yup you read that right! - Share anything you want. The world is a tap or two away.

After 5 years of development, it's just getting started, the first release of Ignition EFB is ready to break free from the tie-downs & kick the chocks aside; It's 2020, as the next generation electronic flight bag, Ignition EFB's first release, V1, is jam packed with seriousness, fun and well... it's excited for an adventure. Where will you take it?

Some of the serious:
:: Flight Planning - On high definition satellite & maps; you'll need to login to your Ignition Aerospace Online account so you can keep track of your Documents.

:: Aircraft Management - Any aircraft, maybe your favourite. Even electric aircraft get some love, kilowatt? That's insane, they don't exist!

:: Logbook & Flight History - Forgot to fill in your logbook after ending the flight? Don't worry fam, we got you covered. Automatic draft entries, you can add photos, videos, literally even a cool story. Want to play your flight back? Absolutely you can.

:: Weather - It's either kids eating corn on a tin roof or rain, and you'll be able to work out which directly on the map. Oh and out the window if it's close enough.

:: Astronomical Observations - Witness the Sun on it's journey as it circles over the Earth's surface, track side up like a 90's road trip mashup CD spinning in the player. What happens on the other side of this beautiful disk, we may never know.

:: Airfield Management - This one is for the farmers and the inviting; and I guess the uninviting too. Why should ex-council owned airports get to tell people to keep off the grass in a nice easy to read directory that lists things like elevation, runway details, radio frequencies, and pilot notes, you know.. everything a visiting pilot needs to fly in? Now you can too.

:: Data Management - We take out the trash, you bring in the goods. Nice and simple.

:: Sharing - using the unique Ignition Sharecode, you can share what you want, you can overshare if you really want, the evidence will only stick around for a week. Whatever you share though is up to you. If your caffeine starved instructor needs to see your flight plan and you can't stand being around them, you don't even need to be in the same room. It's kinda like magic.

:: PART 175 - While CASA don't approve EFB's as such, they do approve Data Service Providers, and being the new EFB on the block, Ignition EFB is not currently a CASA Approved Data Service Provider (DSP), which means that the maps & documents in the app can not be used as a primary in-flight navigation source within Australia, ie. they are not for use in air navigation, however, the maps & documents in the app can be used as a non-required additional aid to increase situational awareness (but not as a primary means of documentation or navigation) provided you have the legal minimums covered in another way (eg. approved Paper Maps as your primary & carry an approved backup if required) - Part 175 only affects your use of the maps & documents that would be used during in-flight activities (such as WAC Charts, ERSA & AIP, and others); the logbook and other non-navigation functions are not affected by Part 175; but with your support, we can make the Part 175 DSP approval happen! + So much more.

Good so far

Always love tech, this seems pretty intuitive so far

I’m glad you’re liking it! Thanks!

It’s just too hard

Why would you want to load aircraft dimensions into an EFB? Started load the details but had to go in and out of the app to collect the data. When I went back in all the previous data had disappeared. I wanted to try it out but it all got too hard.

Developer Response ,

Hey, if your aircraft isn’t in the template database already, feel free to email your POH through to support@ignitionaerospace.com and I’ll add it in for you so you don’t have to fill out the form manually yourself.

Please keep in mind I am only a sole developer with no other team assisting me, it’s literally me on my own so I do my best to help as quickly as I can while working on improving the app too.

I’m always happy to help out when I can if people contact me (either through email, the support line on the website, facebook or other social media) - doesn’t matter how small it is, I want the app to be a good experience. Unfortunately as you’re anonymous on this review I can’t proactively contact you from this to arrange putting the POH information in for you so you’d need to send me an email so I can help.

As it is only the first three weeks of the App being available, the aircraft template database is still pretty small but this will grow in time and should hopefully make it as quick and easy as possible for a wider variety of aircraft. I’ve tried to include the most popular ones to start.

As for the why... Ignition EFB is not intended to be just a basic flight plan app and there is a masterplan for the design of the app in which the basic flight plan will only be one aspect. The foundations are currently being set for the future and the aircraft information such as dimensions will become more relevant in the future. I’m working as quickly as I can to bring these other aspects as soon as I can - although as I am only a single person with no large development team, this will take some time.

This information only needs to be entered once per aircraft (preferably ever, unless you modify the aircraft in the future and need to update the information) - and although it seems like a lot with the 20 or so bits of information, it’s actually less required than other apps when first setting up your aircraft.

The form should save the data as you progress so I will be looking into this to confirm it is working nominally. If you could let me know via support@ignitionaerospace.com which aircraft addition form this occurred on as there are a few options available to add your aircraft, that would help me a lot and be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Cameron
