The best thing you can use for self study
For a long time, I had no easy way to validate ways I was saying things till now.
I’m such a beginner in Japanese, and I find it hard to practice and experiment with the grammar I’ve learnt when I’m alone. I tried hiring a conversation buddy, but I felt like I was too slow and was wasting the other persons time with repetition. I tried talking to google translate but you never know if it’s actually translating correctly.
But when I discovered Langotalk, it totally fulfilled that gap that’s missing in my learning journey!
Now I learn something, crack open the app, and then I start experimenting with sentences by using the dictation microphone. Then I click the grammar button and boom! It tells me whether I said it correctly, some alternative ways to say it to make it more natural, and even some suggestions to add to the sentence.
I also like how the chat AI bot responds like how a person normally would, so I can drill down on what they said, how they said it, and save the words that they’ve introduced me to for further practice.
I mean, this is a total game changer if you ask me. I’m so much more excited to learn when I can tailor what I’m learning to a conversation I’d most likely would have in real life.
Fun practice
A little pricey, but very fun. I’ve definitely benefited from having the conversations.
Disappointed it’s Brazilian not European Portuguese
I’m living in Portugal and trying to learn the Portuguese as its spoken here. Despite the app marketing promising European Portuguese, my Portuguese friends tell me some of the app’s verbs, phrases and pronunciation are not used in Portugal. This app seems to have taken Brazilian Portuguese model and just overlayed a European voice - it is confusing - it speaks in Brazilian and sometimes European Portuguese. That said, the app is good to have a conversation with and can understand me talking 95% of the time but since my Portuguese friends looked at the app, I don’t have confidence in what it’s teaching me, and now feel it is a waste of time and money. Is it that hard to create a truly EUROPEAN PORTUGUESE app??
