Never draw a lighting setup on a scrap of paper again.
Lighting Designer is a quick and intuitive way to create overhead lighting plots for film, theater, television, concerts, and anything else you can light. The wide selection of equipment and simple yet powerful interface makes it easier than ever to illustrate and communicate your lighting setups, from most Apple devices. Your Silicon Mac is powerful and gives you the most screen to work with; your iPad is large and versatile; your iPhone will go with you anywhere. And if you like, your work can sync among all your Apple devices using iCloud, so you can start plotting on one and finish on another.
LD is perfect for tech scouts, working while traveling, or just choosing the couch over your desk chair. While expensive drafting programs can take hours to use and years to master, Lighting Designer is an accessible way to plan your next show!
Features:
• Organize your setups into Shows, with details like shooting dates and crew members
• Choose from over 2000 built-in types of lights, grip equipment, camera gear, actors, and objects like furniture and musical instruments

• Dark Mode presents a dark workspace to reduce eyestrain and minimize your device's light in a dark environment
This works well but has some quirks with resizing the plan and naming objects that I’m sure will be solved soon. The main reason for not giving 5 stars is the lack of export functions. It really needs at a minimum vector based PDF export so you can fine tune what you hand out. More export and import functions would be fantastic, like dxf, and svg as well. Not being able to import your own fixture graphics is annoying but not a show stopper as the inbuilt library is reasonable and you can rename as required. The email output is ok, but hard to get the image dimensions right, and not really very configurable. I found I had to mail it to myself, edit the output to get it the way I wanted it.Overall, a good app and worth the price.

Thanks for the review! I think you’ll find that the latest version (v3.4) resolves a lot of issues and adds a ton of stability.I’m working on a good way to implement PDF output, but most of the graphics the app uses are actually not vectors, so that isn’t really an option. I am considering other formats as well.I also do plan to add the option to use your own fixture images; they would be limited in terms of color, but that’s been a request from very early on. I’ve just now gotten to a point where the app’s data frameworks can support that idea, and I imagine it’ll make a lot of people happy :)And please send me an email about your ideas for improving email output. I’d love to hear how it could be better!
Good but

This is a great little app in that you can use it wherever you can use an iPad Pro - thus very portable and straight forward.I would like to see more export and save options other than to image - would love to see a DXF and PDF export option.
Developer Response
Thanks! I do intent to add PDF export. DXF may not be quite as practical, but I’ll certainly investigate how that could be done.
Disappointing

One star for a great idea but no stars for being glitchy, crashing constantly and clunky UI. The design screen jitters when dragging, never centres where zooming, won't let me fine tune edit shapes and it cost $32aud! Get it working properly guys before you ask that kind of money.
Developer Response
I totally understand your frustration; I look back on v2.1.8 and think it's a total mess. Luckily, I've released two major versions since then, and it's way smoother and easier to use, with more objects and more options for fine-tuning how your Plot displays. Enjoy!
