Hands down one of the best research tools you’ll ever use
Put in random ideas and it will look for supporting literature from the places you would expect it to look. It has vast access to huge amounts of publically available data and scientific journals that it can do in minutes what would have taken years of research. The upcoming Comet integration will ensure Perplexity remains relevant and its recent pairing with Cerebras and its 0.1 second inference speeds with 1200+ tokens a second will ensure that their return speeds only improve over time. This is the next wave of agentic (almost) instant inference Ai - and it’s going to change the world. Trust me once you add this workflow into your studies your research projects will be next level
Artificial Incompetence
Had it for a week. Straight off the bat I asked it a few deep questions on quantum mechanics and it gave great answers. First actual task I wanted it to quantify the use of different fuel products by state and industry. I had already received this info from a different AI but due to changing over I wanted this to do the same thing so I had continuous data in one app. It just couldn’t do it because of how accurate it claims it is. Anything less than a complete data set for it to report from was insufficient and so it just refused to even make an estimate using what it could find online. Today, I used it to provide statistics on male name popularity across 30 years. It said it had everything it needed and would give me the list. The first list it did it hadn’t completed in full. When I ask it to restart the list the data was wildly different. It’s been stuck in a loop of not listening and then making everything up. AVOID.
Pro Difference
I’m a cyber security guy, so I think I’m pretty tech savvy and thought I was doing just fine with the free version. Since upgrading to the pro version for help with a serious issue I’m going through (just to see if I could get an edge), I have noticed a big difference in the quality of responses. There’s more depth, it more closely aligns with my independent research, Perplexity pro has memory now, and remembers prompts further back. All of this has been so useful, I highly recommend it. The ability as well to change to different models based on your needs is a great tool if you know how to use that feature.
