Very good but terrible controls, has potential to improve
The graphics are satisfying, but the controls are not intuitive.
Other games let you walk whilst changing your direction of view simultaneously, not this game! It’s a huge let down. Perhaps adding the option for smart joy sticks which are flexible enough to figure out where the finger is intending to interact from (or at least fixed joy sticks).
An old classic on a new platform.
Ah, Myst... the original benchmark for puzzle games. This old masterpiece has now been rebuilt for a touch interface, and it's better than ever.
I have now played realMyst on two different devices. On an older iPad, the graphics don't do the game justice and it takes ages to link... but on a newer device, not only does the game load much faster but the graphics are as sharp as a new razor. The Retina display brings out the best in this game, preserving the beauty and detail of Myst while allowing seamless movement through each age.
RealMyst is pricy for an iPad app, and the game itself isn't that long, but Myst is still a classic that everybody should experience. Highly recommended.
Disappointed
A classic ruined by simple bugs. I am a massive fan of Myst and even more so Riven. Played them when I was a kid. They taught me many lessons. This "realMyst" version has bugs. I wasn't able to play the stone ship age because the compass and generator would not operate as intended. The very least a problem solving game has to do is work. How can anyone enjoy a challenging puzzle with the thought that it may not actually be possible. This never happened in the originals. Which I own and still have. I wanted to be able to show others these amazing games without having to get out one of my ancient computers. Sadly this modem version isn't actually as good as the original.
