Ratings and Reviews
Genuinely good
If you separate the game from the rest of the risk of rain series and instead compare it to similar mobile games it’s a much better experience. The items during runs look and feel good, there’s a good range of characters with different abilities that actually feel useful and sync well with each other and items. The character swapping mid run is a fun clever mechanic for a squad system. You should be swapping characters constantly through a run.
Game is more fun and has more depth than I expected. Tho I’m running an iPhone 15 pro and am unfortunately getting frame drops on the balanced/high framerate setting.
A great game
A great game for any and all Risk of Rain fans and a great place to start for newcomers of the series. Do check out the other games on all other platforms.
Pretty mid
Player context: Plays gacha games, has over 400 hours in ror as a whole
Review:
Gameplay: Isometric autobattler/looter with active abilities
Items: A random assortment of ror and ror2 items, either buffed or nerfed to fit the new game, most just exist for linear stat boosts
Lore: Not bad, but it’s just not very risk of rain
“Mechanics”: You have a dash on all characters which is nice, but they also have arbitrary damage types which are probably going to be forgotten or used to sell “exclusive” gear
Gacha: Not the worst, not great either, could have just been replaced with a paywall for the whole game or something
Characters: They tried. But they really just remade 40k but worse alongside your copy paste obligatory mecha
Monetisation: There’s the gacha and empty cash shop, will get worse
Overall/Misc: The game crashes pretty often and doesn’t have much actual sustenance to keep you going, though to be fair it is technically early access. The core gameplay is pretty boring with hoards just building up or not at all, leaving you confused about why they put less enemies where chests spawn.
Tldr: It’s a risk of rain gacha game published by gearbox, what did you expect
