Really nice take on weather through widget first

First impressions: I really like the design and information display choices the WeatherUp developers have made, the widget-first and map-up-front choices are a real differentiating factor from other weather apps - and they are useful!

I’m a weather app nerd. Probably I’m a weather nerd? Anyway, I’ve tried all of the weather apps on iOS for Australia.

This has the potential to be my new weather app of choice, displacing Oz Weather to my Specialist Weather Apps folder along with WillyWeather and Windy. Just not quite yet, see the suggestion below.

One suggestion (albeit a little less forcefully put than my fellow, passionate weather nerd Australians) - please seriously consider incorporating the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) as a data source. (Or, if there is such a thing as a data source that aggregates multiple inputs that definitely includes BOM data, perhaps that?). A weather app without BOM data is unfortunately a non-starter for many Australians.

Is it pure jingoism that Aussie weather nerds love their BOM data? IMHO, probably not - the other common weather data sources tend to be either objectively bad at Australian weather, or they are at best unreliable/uncertain, compared to the BOM data, when compared with actual observed weather conditions and a local consumer-level weather station.

Here’s the thing: I’m pretty sure the BOM charges app developers to access BOM weather data, so I’d understand if that cost had to be passed on to customers. Hey, maybe it’s a special Aussie Weather Nerd Subscription and price? It’d be great to have that option.

I’ll use the rest of my free week, and check back in a month or two and see if BOM data is available. If it is, this app will, I think, be the winner and get my subscription. Cheers and well done.

Beautiful app with multiple data choices

Very polished with lots of pleasant little touches that make this easy to use and a joy. Love the idea of using maps as the main interface; makes a lot of sense for weather. Forecast for upcoming events on my calendar is so great!

Need WillyWeather Australia support

It’s a great looking widget and well thought of. But, it’s as good as the source data is. So, for Australia, it’s meaning less if BOM weather data is not supported.
