APPS WE LOVE

Shebah

Does sharing a ride with someone you know nothing about make you feel uncomfortable? Shebah is here to help out: Australia’s first female-only ride sharing app aims to provide a safe and reliable transport option for women. All of the company’s drivers are female and have undertaken extensive background checks to provide peace of mind to fellow female travellers.

The app is intuitive and simple to use. Your home screen is where you set your pick-up and drop-off location, see an estimation of the fare, and – if required – request a child’s car seat. Decide to either Request Now or Schedule Later, and once your driver has been allocated, you’ll be shown their car’s registration, their photo and a phone number if you’d like to contact them prior to pick-up. You can handily make your payment within the app as well.

Shebah, founded by former ABC breakfast host George McEncroe, is available in most major Australian cities. The service can be used by women, transwomen and children of all genders under the age of 13. Some exceptions for male travellers include boys aged 13–18 when accompanied by a female guardian. And there’s good news for doting pet parents: your beloved may travel with you too.

As Shebah is still growing its fleet, the company recommends using Schedule Later for a $2 booking fee to arrange an even quicker pick-up. “Shebah is getting bigger and bigger every day, however we want to ensure we can meet the demand with enough active drivers on the road,” says Olivia Robinson-Danckert, Marketing Assistant at Shebah.

If you’re looking for a reliable transport service that supports and provides a community for Australian women, Shebahis a trusted option.
