Description

Breathe app offers guided sessions for both HRV breathing and the 4-7-8 technique, accompanied by calming sounds to deepen your relaxation experience.

What is HRV breathing?
HRV, or Heart Rate Variability, is a critical indicator of overall well-being, sleep quality, and body recovery. It measures the variations in time between each heartbeat, reflecting autonomic nervous system flexibility and health. Optimal HRV during sleep signifies efficient physiological restoration, while low HRV may indicate disturbances in sleep patterns or insufficient recovery.

HRV breathing, also known as 'coherent breathing' or 'resonance breathing', involves taking slow, deep breaths at a rate of around six breaths per minute. This practice stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation, conserving energy, and supporting bodily recovery processes.

What is 4-7-8 breathing?
The 4-7-8 breathing technique is a simple yet powerful relaxation method involving breathing in for 4 seconds, holding the breath for 7 seconds, and exhaling slowly for 8 seconds.

Why practice 4-7-8 breathing?
This technique is widely used to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and induce sleep. By engaging the body's relaxation response, it helps calm the nervous system and instill tranquility. Through deep, rhythmic breathing, it lowers stress hormones, stabilizes heart rate and blood pressure, and increases oxygen intake for a calming effect. Regular practice can enhance relaxation, improve sleep, and aid in anxiety management.
