Quick Scrap Note
Simple, quick capture to Notes
Only for Mac
Free · In-App Purchases
I use Apple Notes as my main note-taking app.
While Apple Notes has Quick Note, every word I jot down there is automatically saved into Apple Notes. This ends up piling a lot of junk notes that I have to manually clean up at the end of the day. I often find myself jotting down quick, temporary things - like a phone number, a serial number, or a quick calculation. These are scrap notes that I don’t really care to keep permanently inside Apple Notes.
That’s the purpose of this app.
It’s plain text only - no frills. It launches quickly (I suggest setting a global hotkey to ⌃ Space).
You can also perform quick calculations by typing an equation followed by ==.
(This is powered by SoulverCore, so you can do things like unit conversions, currency conversions, and even time zone calculations. See the screenshots for examples.)
Features:
• Quickly show and hide the Scrap Note window using a global shortcut
• Plain text only. Paste from Word/Excel and it will be converted to plain text
• Perform calculations and conversions
• URL scheme support, so Popclip users can send text to Scrap Note
• Unlimited pages; navigate between pages using keyboard shortcuts
• Four background color options
• Save into Apple Notes
• Save into Apple Reminders; each line becomes a separate reminder
• For Power Users, there are additional 5 slots to save notes into other apps like CotEditor, Things, Files (as long as they support Shortcuts)
• Keyboard shortcuts support and customizable toolbar
• One button press to insert the current date and time - for the diary junkies out there :)
• One button press to copy all text into clipboard
Oh, and it’s free to use. Enjoy! (The In-App Purchase you see are for Tip Jars purposes only)
Keyboard shortcuts:
⌘ N create new page
⌘ E clear the current page
⌘ D delete page
⌘ ⌥ S show or hide sidebar
⌘ - smaller font
⌘ = bigger font
⌘ 1,2,3..9,0 jump directly to the page number
(Click on the Page x of x at the bottom bar and type the page number to jump to)
Navigations are customizable:
⌘ ← previous page
⌘ → next page
⌘ ↑ jump to the first page
⌘ ↓ jump to the last page
[The two saves below is executed with Apple Shortcut. The shortcuts are included in Settings]
⌘ S save into Apple Notes
⌘ R save into Apple Reminders
(Power Users have 5 additional slots to saves into other apps)
⌘ , open settings (or click the menu Scrap Note > Settings...)
more [Fixed] There is a button at the bottom left, which select all text and copy to clipboard. This is a convenient way for user to paste the scrap note into another app. A sticker, "Copied", will appear to indicate that the text is copied. If the user tapped on this button in quick successions, the "Copied" sticker does not go away. This is now fixed.

When an idea pops up, I want to pop up Quick Scrap Note and write it down, without needing to tap a short cut key or click on the toolbar button to create a new note. Ideas need to be respected! Now, after 5 minutes (configurable) of being inactive/hidden/minimized, it will create an empty scrap note upon activating the app window, ready to accept input. By default, this is set to "Never", so, it behaves as it is now.

[New] Sidebar! Use the icon in toolbar to show/hide or keyboard shortcut ⌘ ⌥ S
[Fixed] If user ticked "Hide Dock Icon" and the Mac restarts, the app window is shown to inform user that the app is running. This is not a popular idea. Fixed this so it starts silently.
[Fixed] I made the color choices at status bar to be more prominent by overlaying a gray border
[Fixed] a bug where I captured Command arrow keys globally. So, it broke Command arrow key functionalities in other apps. Now, I've contained it within Scrap Note only, so Command arrow key will still move to first note, last note and navigate to previous or next note (for existing users) but it leaves other apps alone. Of course, you can still customize your preferred hot key for navigation in the Settings.

[New] macOS 26 round window corner style. Which also means that the toolbar will look like other macOS 26 toolbar. I held off this change but, I cannot accept the window corners not being consistent with the rest of the OS. No changes if you are still on Sequoia or earlier macOS.
[Fixed] when user edits an existing ##Header or >>Quote, the cursor goes down one line and the first character of that line is still brown or italic. I have fixed this bug.

[New] Nicer Settings dialog box
[New] The 5 custom shortcuts slots have their own toolbar buttons, so you don't have to remember the shortcut keys which you recorded
[New] new icon - let's free it from that grey, squircle jail!
This is supposed to be a scrap note, not a editor but I really, really want to be able to differentiate a header and I often quotes certain paragraphs. So I present to you:
[New] Typing >> to quote a text. It will indent, italic and gray the text
[New] Typing ## to create header. It will bold and colored it brown

What’s New in V1.5:
[New] Added URL Scheme. This means that if you’re a Popclip user, you can now send text directly to ScrapNote. Please visit my website for the Popclip snippet.
[New] There’s a checkbox in Settings to automatically launch the app when you restart your Mac.
[New] Added a shortcut to save text into Reminders—one reminder per line. You can install the shortcut from Settings.
[New] macOS now performs spell check as you type. I missed those red squiggly lines.
[Fixed] Added confirmation prompts when clearing text or deleting a page.
[Fixed] For very long notes (which you shouldn’t have, since this app is meant for short sentences—but I get it, habits…), the previous shortcut would truncate the note before saving it to Apple Notes. I’ve updated the shortcut to copy text from the Clipboard instead, which bypasses the character limit. Please download the new “Save to Notes” shortcut from Settings.
Previous Updates in V1.4:
[Fixed] A pesky bug was intercepting keyboard shortcuts, which sometimes prevented you from creating a new page, deleting a page, or changing the font size. This has finally been fixed (hopefully), and it warranted an emergency update to V1.4.
[New] Keyboard shortcuts have been added to navigate between pages. Use ⌘ + Left Arrow and ⌘ + Right Arrow to go to the previous and next page, respectively. Hope this helps you work faster!
Previous Updates in V1.3:
[New] Updated marketing screenshot.
[Fixed] Made the app icon smaller so it looks nicer in the Dock. I want to provide an option to hide the Dock icon, but this is more complicated than expected. It might break the menu (and with it, your keyboard shortcuts), so I’ll need more time to test this properly. I’m currently between project - thanks for your patience!
[Fixed] The “New Page” toolbar icon was not showing in Sonoma and earlier macOS versions.
[Fixed] Undo/Redo, ⌘z, was not working - this has been resolved.
[Fixed] When your current page is yellow and you add a new page, the new page was also yellow. I’ve changed this so new pages default to white instead.
Hey everyone, if you enjoy using this app, please consider leaving a rating on the App Store. It’s a free app, and your kind review would really mean a lot. Thanks again, and have a great day!
