Greenshot is a light-weight screenshot software tool with the following key features:
- Quickly create screenshots of a selected region, window or fullscreen.
- Easily annotate, highlight or obfuscate parts of the screenshot.
- Export the screenshot in various ways: save to file, copy to clipboard, attach to e-mail.
…and a lot more options simplyfying creation of and work with screenshots every day.
NOTE: As some guys didn't find out how to start working with Greenshot, here's how: On the top of your screen is a clock. Somewhere on the left of it, you find a small G-icon. Click it. You also find the default hotkeys in the menu.
NOTE FOR CATALINA AND ABOVE: MacOS Catalina introduced major security changes and now some function regarding the operating system (like file handling, camera and also screenshots) needs to be given permission by the user. Unfortunately you'll have to enable screenshots for Greenshot in the system preferences. Go to "Security & Privacy" -> "Privacy" -> "Screen recording" and enable Greenshot.
WARNING for long-time Greenshot users: Greenshot for Mac is NOT as feature-rich as you might expect when you were using it on the PC before. We are doing our very best, but it may take a few months until you find the feature you are missing.

crashes programs on macos

I justed loved Greenshot on windows but on Mac it just doesn't work that good. I get crashes when i want to past a copied area into different programs (gmail in edge, or in pages)It's sad that a free program (on windows) works better then a paid (on macos)

Greenshot is one of the basic software I'm use to install on every Windows PC I use. I Love it !I was very happy when I saw a Mac OS Version was available. I've agreed to pay for it from the very beggining hoping the version would be improved. Unfortunalely there hasn't been an update for over two years now. It is clearly a software that has nothing to do with the Windows version. It's looks like a completely different software that use the same name..

Really happy that this is available for macOs now. The shortcuts for drawing rectangles and arrows etc is something I really miss in the native macOs screenshot tool.However there is a BIG CAVEAT in the current version. In the current version, when you copy to clipboard and close the screenshot, it will always prompt that you have not saved this screenshot. You must find that screen somewhere (usually on the main screen) but sometimes it’s not there and you have no other option than to force close and start the app again. There goes the productivity gain… Hope this will be fixed soon, otherwise I won’t be using it for long anymore :(

I would not recommend this app for MacOS, as the feature set is limited and the builtin screen captures for MacOS do the same (for free). On Windows however, the app is fantastic and I consider this payment a donation for the great use in Windows :)
