Not just avoiding motorways. We check every street for scooter & moped safety. Enjoy calmer rides, exact ETAs, Apple Watch & voice guidance. Try free!
Make every ride calm, fast, and highway-free. Urban Rider finds city streets that suit scooters and mopeds. So you avoid stressful high-speed roads and stay focused on the ride.
Why riders switch
• No-highway routing: Built for 25–50 km/h vehicles to keep you on safer city roads.
• Arrive on time: ETAs tuned for scooters, not car math, so plans stay realistic.
• Urban-canyon GPS: Reliable guidance between tall buildings.
• Glance-friendly UI: Minimalist map with oversized turn arrows; less distraction.
• Speed-zone awareness: Gentle warnings before you enter faster zones.
• Battery-Saving Mode: Go farther on a single charge while staying on course.
• Export your way: Plan here, then open routes in Apple Maps, Google Maps, or export GPX.

Designed for city two-wheelers
Whether you commute daily or explore on weekends, Urban Rider turns back-streets and scenic corridors into your default path. So the ride feels safe, smooth, and fun.
Privacy by design
We minimize data collection and keep navigation focused on you and your route.
Join thousands of riders reclaiming their city. Download Urban Rider and ride the smarter way.
more - Add a stop while you ride. Open Route options during navigation and add a stop without starting over. Search for a place, or tap Fuel, Charging, Food or Toilet to pick from spots near your route (sorted by how little they take you off course). One tap adds it and updates your route. Undo anytime.
- Optional alternative routes. Turn on “Show alternative routes” in Settings. On trips under 100 km, a second, more direct route appears as a faded line next to your main route. Tap it to switch, or tap your original to go back. A reminder appears when you pick the alternative (only your main route is fully checked against your vehicle’s rules). Speed limits and over-speed warnings work on the alternative, and if you leave it the app keeps you on that route instead of snapping you back. Off by default.
- Easier-to-spot speed cameras. Speed cameras on your route now appear as larger, clearer markers so you can see them at a glance. The camera warning in the bottom panel also lines up neatly under its distance.
- Calmer navigation panels. The instruction banner and bottom panel now appear and update instantly instead of sliding and fading. Lane guidance, ride start, and adding a stop no longer animate the interface, so nothing slides into view while you’re riding.
- Better scooter routing in Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. The app no longer steers you off normal main roads onto slow back-streets and market lanes just to “avoid big roads.” City routes are more direct and quicker. Expressways and motorways your scooter can’t use are still avoided. You can still turn on “Block fast main roads” in Settings if you prefer calmer routing.
- No more false speeding warnings on estimated limits. In Taiwan, Japan and South Korea (where road speed data is often missing), the app still shows its best estimate but only warns you against a limit it actually knows. It stops nagging when you’re already riding at the real limit.
- Fewer wrong U-turn prompts in slow city traffic. When creeping along or stopped at a light in a dense grid, the app no longer misreads your direction and tells you to make a U-turn. It now uses your settled direction of travel at low speed, so those spurious prompts are much rarer.
Plus the usual routing and stability improvements.

EPIC NEW FEATURES
- Instant Tap-to-Route: Spotted a café, viewpoint, or shop on the map? Just tap it. A card instantly pops up with routing, calling, and website buttons. No typing, no searching.
- Round Trips from Anywhere: Drop a pin anywhere in the world and generate a perfect loop starting from that spot. We have made loops significantly rounder to prevent backtracking, and added quick-tuning chips to instantly change the length or direction right from the preview.
- Safety & Weather Briefings: Get a glanceable weather and safety read-out before you ride (e.g., "Wet roads. Wear waterproofs and brake early").
- Know the Rules & Borders: Check the legal road rules for your specific vehicle in your current country directly in Settings. Crossing a border? The route preview will warn you about changing laws before you set off.
- Gamified Map Reporting: Sent down a rough path? Tap the new flag button mid-ride to report stretches that do not belong. You earn Route Contributor badges while helping fix OpenStreetMap for everyone. True to our privacy-by-design standards, nothing leaves your device unless you actively choose to send it.
SMARTER VEHICLE ROUTING
- L7e Microcars (90 km/h): Heavy quadricycles like the Microlino 90 now get their own routing profile. We will keep you off slow backroads and make use of your real top speed, while safely avoiding illegal motorways.
- European E-Kick Scooters: Massive improvements for European riders. Routes now strictly prioritise cycle paths and quiet streets over illegal footways, and we have added exact legal speed defaults per country (e.g., 20 km/h in Germany, 25 km/h elsewhere).
- Mid-Ride Adjustments: Need to avoid hills or rough roads halfway through a trip? Tap Route Options while navigating to recalculate on the fly.
BATTERY & SYSTEM UPGRADES
- Lifetime Unlock: By popular demand, current subscribers can now easily upgrade to a Lifetime unlock directly under Manage Subscription.
- Major Battery Savings: We have drastically reduced background processing and optimised GPS accuracy when the app is open but not actively navigating, keeping your phone cooler and saving battery on long rides.
- Smarter Visuals: The orange lines highlighting roads faster than your vehicle now smoothly fade into your route colour instead of abruptly cutting off.
THE BUG SQUASHING
- Bulletproof Parking Saves: Weak GPS in a car park? We now fall back to your last good signal to save your spot, or clearly tell you if the signal is entirely lost.
- VPN & Ad-Blocker Fix: If a strict network or VPN blocks our routing server, you will get a clear explanation instead of an endless "planning route" spinner.
- Rock-Solid iCloud Sync: Your saved places, custom speed caps, and settings now wait for a reliable iCloud handshake before saving, meaning your data seamlessly follows you when setting up a new device.
- True Trip Stats: Fixed an issue where stats were double-counting rides or resetting during app updates. Your lifetime stats and trip logs carry over flawlessly.
- Trip Planner Fixes: Modifying your starting point or reordering stops will no longer wipe out your carefully planned waypoints.
- Kick Scooter Audio: Removed pointless audio announcements for speed limit zones your kick scooter could never reach anyway.
Plus the usual routing and stability improvements.

New Features
- Switch to Lifetime Access: Already subscribed? You can now upgrade directly to Lifetime under Settings > Subscription, with easy prompts to cancel your existing recurring plan so you aren’t double-billed.
- In-Ride Route Reporting: Tap the new flag button while navigating to flag stretches that don’t belong—like forbidden roads, missing cycle paths, or rough surfaces. Review and submit them after your ride to help improve routing and update OpenStreetMap (plus earn community contributor badges!).
- Heavy Quadricycle Support (L7e, 90 km/h): Driving an L7e microcar like the Microlino? Enable the new 90 km/h toggle in Microcar settings for realistic travel times and proper routing that keeps you off motorways without sending you onto slow back roads.
Routing & Usability Improvements
- Smarter E-Kick Scooter Routing: Better European routes prioritising cycle paths and quiet streets while avoiding pedestrian zones and fast roads (≥70 km/h). Scenic routes are now up to 10% shorter on average.
- Country-Specific Scooter Speeds: Automatic defaults aligned with local regulations (20 km/h in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, and Japan; 24 km/h in the US; 25 km/h elsewhere), with flexible manual adjustments.
- Smoother Map Visuals: Speed warnings along your route line now feature a subtle, smooth gradient instead of abrupt hard edges.
Bug Fixes & Reliability
- iCloud Sync & Restore: Resolved sync timing bugs where fresh installs or switching between devices could overwrite saved places, custom speed caps, or app preferences.
- Riding Stats & Trip Log: Fixed an issue where trips could double-count towards lifetime totals or reset after an update.
- Multi-Stop Route Planning: Changing your departure point or reordering stops no longer drops intermediate waypoints when saving a route.
- Smarter Voice Alerts: Quietened irrelevant speed limit announcements on kick scooters when speed changes are well above vehicle limits.
Plus the usual routing and stability improvements.

New
- Switch to Lifetime: If you already subscribe, you can now purchase Lifetime directly under Settings > Subscription. The app will prompt you to cancel your previous subscription in App Store settings so you don't get charged twice.
Improvements
- Smarter E-Scooter Routing: Scooter routes across Europe now strictly prioritise bike lanes, cycle paths, and quiet streets while keeping you off pedestrian footways and high-speed roads (70+ km/h). Scenic routes are now roughly 10% shorter on average.
- Country-Specific Scooter Speed Defaults: Scooter default speeds now align with local regulations (20 km/h in Germany, Switzerland, Poland, and Italy; 24 km/h in the US; 25 km/h elsewhere). You can easily reset to the country default or keep your custom speed limit active across regions.
Fixes
- Relevant Speed Zone Alerts: Silenced speed limit announcements your scooter cannot physically reach (such as dropping from 50 to 30 km/h), while retaining helpful alerts for low-speed zones like 10 km/h.
- Accurate Ride Stats: Resolved a bug where new rides were counted twice towards lifetime stats, milestones, and service reminders. (Existing totals remain unchanged.)
- Preserved Stats on Update: Updating the app will no longer reset your lifetime statistics to your last 10 rides or overwrite older Trip Logs.
- Reliable iCloud Sync: Prevented app defaults from overwriting your cloud data during clean installs or when switching to a new device. Saved places, settings, and custom speed caps now reliably restore as expected.
- Multi-Device Sync Conflicts: Fixed an issue where changes made on an iPad or secondary phone could be overwritten when returning to your primary device.
Plus the usual routing and stability improvements.

4.22.0 8 Oct
We’re constantly working to make your rides smoother. In this update, we’ve added highly requested routing options, a new language, and under-the-bonnet tweaks to keep your battery going longer.
Calmer Roads for Light Motorcycles
- Riding a 125cc or light motorcycle and want to avoid the most aggressive traffic? We’ve added a new "Calmer Roads" toggle. It keeps you off the fastest main and trunk roads when a more relaxed route is available, without being quite as restrictive as a moped profile.
Fast Mode for Mopeds in Sweden
- Swedish riders, you can finally skip the gravel! We’ve enabled the "Fast" mode option for mopeds in Sweden, letting you safely route via the faster main roads you're legally allowed to ride on instead of wandering onto back roads. (Don't worry, we still keep you completely off motorways and expressways).
Labas! Lithuanian Support
- Urban Rider now fully speaks Lithuanian. The entire app interface and turn-by-turn voice guidance are fully translated. It will automatically follow your iPhone’s system language, or you can select it manually in Settings.
Better Battery Life
- We’ve streamlined how the map updates and optimised how the app saves data in the background. The result? Urban Rider uses noticeably less battery on long rides, leaving you with more juice when you reach your destination.
Smoother Experience & Bug Fixes
- Persistent Language Settings: If you use Urban Rider on multiple devices sharing the same Apple ID, your language settings will no longer mysteriously overwrite each other. Your choice now stays locked in per device.
- Stay Centred: We fixed a quirk where changing the app's language in Settings would cause the map to lose your location. Now, the map stays perfectly centred on you when making a switch.
Plus the usual routing and stability improvements.
Happy riding!
4.21.9 5 Oct
- Fast Mode for Mopeds in Sweden: Swedish riders can now select "Fast" mode! This keeps you on faster, legally permitted main roads instead of sending you on long detours down gravel backroads. Fast mode still strictly avoids motorways and expressways, getting you to your destination quicker and smoother.
- Better Battery Life: We've optimised how the app processes map updates and handles diagnostic logs under the bonnet. The result? Urban Rider uses noticeably less battery on long rides, while keeping everything looking and working exactly the same.
- Language & Sync Fixes: Your language preference is now saved per device, meaning it will no longer randomly revert if you use Urban Rider on multiple devices with the same Apple ID. We also fixed a bug where the map would lose your location and stop centring on you right after changing the app language.
Plus the usual routing and stability improvements.
Happy riding!
4.21.8 25 Sept
- Set Urban Rider as your phone's default navigation app. On iPhones in the EU (iOS 18.4 and later) and Japan (iOS 26.2 and later), you can now select Urban Rider under Settings, Apps, Default Apps, Navigation. Once it's your default, tapping an address in another app can open directions straight into Urban Rider instead of Maps: getting directions starts the ride, and opening a place shows it with a route preview first.
- Favourites remember their stops. When you save a route that has stops along the way as a favourite, those stops are now saved with it. Riding it again from your favourites takes you the same way through each stop, rather than straight to the destination. This also works when you start the favourite from Siri or a home screen widget.
Plus the usual routing and stability improvements.
Happy riding!
4.21.7 23 Sept
We have rolled out major routing improvements for moped riders, smarter alerts, and smoother navigation across the board!
- Smart "Switch to Fastest" Suggestions: Riding on the Efficient preference and taking a long detour? If a genuinely quicker, moped-legal route exists, you will now see a one-tap suggestion card showing how much time you can save, without changing your default preference.
- Cleaner Ride Preferences: We have reordered the tabs into a smooth spectrum from calm to fast: Scenic, Efficient, and Fast (formerly "Fastest" for mopeds)
- Precise Speed-Camera Warnings: Camera alerts now measure distance accurately along your actual route, meaning you will only be alerted for cameras on your path and no longer bothered by parallel roads.
- Reliable Long-Distance & Cross-Border Moped Trips: Long trips (such as Berlin to Hamburg or Berlin to Amsterdam) now plan seamlessly. We have improved how long routes are split and calculated, eliminating routing errors and cooldowns.
- No More Absurd Detours: Moped routes are now much more direct. We have fine-tuned how the app avoids faster roads so your rides stay sensible while keeping you safely off motorways.
Plus the usual routing and stability improvements.
Happy riding!
4.21.6 20 Sept
- Camera warnings now follow your actual route instead of straight-line distance, so they fire at the right moment through bends and roundabouts. And if a trip takes you past the same camera twice (an out-and-back or a loop), you'll get a heads-up on each pass.
- Snorfiets on cycle paths. Moped riders can now choose to follow cycle paths: turn on "Ride on cycle paths" in Speed & Warnings.
- Netherlands & Belgium moped cue. A spoken heads-up for when to move onto the cycle path or back onto the road.
Plus the usual routing and stability improvements.

4.21.5 17 Sept
Introducing the Garage: stay on top of your maintenance
Urban Rider now tracks when your vehicle is due for a service. Set up a Garage for each vehicle, tell it how yours is powered (petrol, diesel, electric or pedal), and get a tailored checklist: tyres, brakes, oil, chain, battery and more. Reminders follow how far you actually ride, so you're nudged at the right time, not too early or too late. Switch on notifications, snooze anything you're not ready for, and tap a due job to route straight to your saved mechanic or the nearest fuel and air. Everything stays private on your device.
Also new
- Ride on cycle paths: if you ride a light 25 to 30 km/h moped that belongs on the cycle path, turn on the new option under Speed & warnings and your routes will follow cycle paths.
- Microcar profile (beta) for light quadricycles, with routing tuned to where they belong.
- Watch your ride back: replay any recorded trip on the map and export it as a shareable video.
- Find a public toilet nearby, with a list, map pins and directions.
- Search by voice: tap the mic in the search bar and say where you want to go.
- Pin your favourite places to the map and give them a custom icon.
- Fewer detours into roadworks: reroutes now remember your trip's live closures.
- Report a routing problem right from your ride summary.
- More polish and reliability fixes throughout.
Plus the usual routing and stability improvements.
Happy riding!
4.21.4 14 Sept
Relive your ride, then share it
- Watch Ride replays your recorded trip right in the app, so you can watch the whole route play back from ride history.
- Share your ride as a video. Turn any recorded ride into a clean, shareable clip with your distance, top speed, and a map that follows the route. Pick the length and format (portrait, square) before you export.
Your favourites, now on the map
- Saved places appear as pins on the map when you're not navigating. Tap one to route there instantly.
- For Custom saved places, choose your own icon so each pin is easy to spot at a glance.
Smarter reroutes
- Reroutes now remember the closures on your trip, so the app stops sending you back onto a road it already knows is closed.
Voice search polish
- Voice search now understands your language wherever you ride, and the mic and speech permission prompts are fully localised.
Plus the usual routing and stability improvements.
Happy riding!
4.21.3 10 Sept
In this update, we’ve added a few new features and improvements to make your rides even better:
- Search by voice. Tap the mic in the search field to speak an address or place instead of typing. It understands your language and works offline.
- Better detours around road closures. When you reroute near a known closure or roadworks, Urban Rider now keeps steering you around it instead of sending you straight back into it.
- Smaller fixes and reliability improvements.

4.21.1 3 Sept
This update adds Polish and sharpens routing across more of Europe.
• Polish. The whole app and its spoken turn-by-turn guidance are now available in Polish, our tenth language.
• Smarter routing, wider coverage. Long-distance routes now build cleanly across the UK, Greece, the Nordics, the Baltics, and southeast Europe, and rural routes in Finland no longer take needless detours around quiet, unmarked roads.
• Moped routing in the UK. Where the law allows it, routes now treat A-roads like any other road, with a new setting to keep strictly off them if you prefer.
• Better scenic loops. Round-trip routes stay direct instead of doubling back near main roads.
• Accessibility. VoiceOver now announces the on-map navigation buttons by name.
• Refinements. Fewer crashes, correct distance units in the US, a smoother follow camera, and general cleanup under the bonnet.

4.20.6 26 Aug
This update makes your routes more direct and your on-screen info more accurate:
• Straighter city routes. We've stopped sending you the long way round cobbled and brick streets. They're ordinary roads, so we now route over them like any other. Avoiding rough surfaces is something you switch on when you want it, not off.
• Live traffic as a clean line. Congestion now shows as a smooth orange line along your route instead of a row of dots, so the slow stretches are obvious at a glance.
• Accurate weather. Temperature now shows in your local units (°C in the UK), and sunrise and sunset times are correct for your location.
• Share cards that fit. Your ride milestones now look right whether you post them as an Instagram Story, Reel, or Post.
Thanks for riding with us. Questions or ideas? We read every message.
4.20.5 25 Aug
- Routing in Japan improved.

- The screen now stays on more reliably during navigation.
- Visual fixes and refinements.

4.20.3 12 Aug
New: Bike Types
Choose the bike that matches how you ride, and your routes adapt to suit.
- City: smooth roads and cycle paths for everyday trips
- Road: fast tarmac, skips the cycle paths and rough surfaces
- Mountain: seeks out tracks, trails and gravel, and takes on the climbs
We've also improved routing on hilly terrain, so you're no longer sent the long way round a short, steep stretch.
Thanks for riding with Urban Rider.
4.20.2 8 Aug
- Ride around traffic and closures. New Avoid Heavy Traffic and Avoid Road Closures options use live data to steer you past jams and blocked roads. Both are off by default, so switch them on in Settings whenever you want them.
- A clearer view of the road ahead. The map now eases out as you pick up speed so junctions and exits show up in time, tuned to each vehicle type. You can also pan and zoom the map freely while riding; it slides back to follow you a few seconds after you let go.
- Share any route. Open a route, or a round trip, in Google Maps or Apple Maps, or export it as a GPX file.
- Plus polish across the route panel and a batch of routing fixes under the bonnet.
Thanks for riding with Urban Rider. Keep the feedback coming!
4.20.1 4 Aug
- Road closed? We now avoid road blocks, just toggle it on under Settings
- Heavy traffic? We now avoid heavy traffic, just toggle it on under Settings
- Rather have max speed and current speed in the top left corner? Now you can switch between the two in the settings.
Thanks for riding with Urban Rider. Keep the feedback coming!
4.20.0 3 Aug
- See the fast stretches before you ride. On moped routes, any section
posted above 80 km/h is now marked in orange on the map, so you can
see exactly where it is. These roads are still legal for your moped,
the colour just shows where traffic moves more quickly.
- Optional compass. Turn it on under Settings, Map & Display.
Thanks for riding with Urban Rider. Keep the feedback coming!
4.19.6 29 Jul
- Voice, your way: separate toggles for spoken directions, speed warnings, and speed camera alerts. Keep turn-by-turn on while muting the rest.
- Turn off speed warnings on any vehicle, not just motorcycles. The speed limit still shows on screen.
- Fewer false "over the limit" warnings for mopeds on moped paths.
- Save your current location as a favourite, ideal for home.
- A quick tip in the route preview when a Scenic route runs much longer than the direct one.
- Cleaner, easier-to-browse Settings.
Thanks for riding with Urban Rider. Keep the feedback coming!
4.19.5 26 Jul
Voice guidance now keeps talking when you lose signal, switching to your
device's built-in voice instead of going quiet.
Petrol and charging stations: clearer results when you're offline, and tapping
one now opens a proper destination card.
Thanks for all the feedback. It shapes what we build next.
Enjoy!
