OpenProbe
Real-world network quality
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
OpenProbe is an academic research app that measures the real-world quality of mobile networks — not just whether you're connected, but how well the connection actually performs.
Tap one button and OpenProbe measures your network's responsiveness (latency) and speed (bandwidth), then contributes the result to an open research dataset that helps study network quality at scale.
Privacy comes first. Your exact location never leaves your device — it is blurred to a coarse grid on the phone before anything is sent. No name, no account, no login, no tracking. Contributing is always optional, and you can review or delete your data at any time.
OpenProbe is part of an MSc research project studying how network quality data can be collected usefully while fully respecting user privacy.

Improved location accuracy, added timeout handling for bandwidth and upload to prevent hangs on unstable networks, and added a quality indicators (Excellent/Good/Fair/Poor) for latency and bandwidth measurements.
