PAINe - An artificial intelligence based virtual assistant to aid in the differentiation of pain of odontogenic versus temporomandibular origin. Pain associated with temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) is often confused with odontogenic pain, which is a challenge in endodontic diagnosis. The distinction between odontogenic and non-odontogenic pain is one of the major clinical challenges in dental practice. While in many cases the diagnosis and treatment plan are evident, there are more complex situations that require a more careful diagnostic approach. This virtual assistant using questionnaires validated in the literature uses natural language processing to automate initial screening in the differential diagnosis of patients reporting dental pain, aiming to provide a more effective interaction with the user and streamline the screening process. The PAINe assistant shows a high accuracy rate, generating clear responses and providing good interaction with the user. PAINe has an accuracy rate of 86% and a substantial level of agreement, however may make mistakes. Always remember to verify all information with your dental surgeon.
