The My BMW App is optimised for vehicles built from 2014 onwards. The availability of individual app functions depends on your vehicle equipment and your BMW ConnectedDrive contract. The availability of app functions may vary between countries and vehicle models.
Here is a real story. I get in the car with physical key and start the car. My wife gets in the passenger seat with her iphone as a digital key. We get to our destination and my wife gets out of the car and I get out to help with bags. Car is still running and physical key is in the cup holder. My gets in the house, so the stupid x7 decides to lock itself while running because the iphone is longer close to the car. Remember, car was started with physical key which is now locked inside the car. And I’m like, np, will use this stupid app to unlock the car and get inside, park the car etc. Nope, Vehicle is in use, it said. Well ns… the key is inside and the car is running, but Im locked outside. Digital key, smart apps… smart my a**… At least when you implement something like this, just think of edge cases. What a joke! If the car is moving, yeah sure, don’t unlock it, but car is stationary and the used key on the selected profile is inside and it decided to lock me out. Well what will happen if someone grabs my wife handbag with the digital key? We need to leave the car running there until I go on foot home to pick up the spare key?? Absolutely ridiculous. We might get a software update to fix this 2037.
