Solar Alert 5.0 is here: we tell you what is coming, what it means and what to do about it. Try Premium free for 30 minutes.
Solar Alert warns you about solar storms before they hit, and explains what they mean.
When the Sun turns active, the consequences reach us down here: degraded communications, unreliable satellite navigation, electronics behaving strangely and power grids under strain. Solar Alert watches the Sun around the clock, warns you when something deserves your attention, and tells you what to do with that head start.
HOW IT WORKS
We continuously analyze data from NOAA, NASA and other official observatories, work out the risk for your latitude, and send you an alert when it matters, up to 3 days ahead for the events that allow it. And it does not stop at the warning: it explains what is happening and what is worth doing about it.
WITH TIME TO REACT, YOU CAN:
√ Stay ahead of communication failures and of the instability affecting the electronics of vehicles, aircraft and air traffic control.
√ Disconnect and isolate your solar panel installation and your appliances in time, protecting them from grid surges and reducing the risk of fire at home.
√ Avoid being trapped in elevators, trains or other electromechanical systems when the power supply turns unreliable.
√ Calmly get water, food, light and a backup way to communicate ready, following the checklist of precautions included in the app.
WHAT YOU WILL FIND INSIDE
• Automatic early warning, with a severity level, concrete recommendations and alerts in five languages.
• Contextual help throughout the app: tap the help button on any screen and Solar Alert explains what you are looking at. More than 900 explanations at two levels, with a tutorial mode that walks you through step by step.
• A history of your last fifty alerts, each with its image and full detail.
• A forecast tuned to your latitude, using automatic location or simply typing your city. Your location stays on your device; we do not share it with third parties.
• Solar Plasma Monitor: how a storm travels from the Sun to the Earth.
• Seven scientific panels that refresh on their own every minute.
• Images of the Sun across 42 observation channels, the OVATION aurora map in full screen, and a photo gallery.
• A checklist of preparations and precautions to take before an extreme storm arrives.
TRY IT BEFORE YOU DECIDE
Solar Alert has a free version with the essentials. And you can open the Premium content for 30 minutes, once, with no payment and nothing to cancel afterwards.
14 YEARS BEHIND EVERY ALERT
Solar Alert has been on the App Store since 2012, with a 4.7 average rating. Behind it there is more than an app: a team, our own server and data from official observatories and agencies, running every single day. Cloning a few good-looking screens is easy today; keeping an alert system you can trust running for fourteen years is not.
When the next big storm arrives, you will want to be warned. And you will want to understand what it means.
Solar Alert is an alert and protection service for extreme solar events, available through an auto-renewable subscription.
Payment is charged to your Apple account upon confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends. The renewal charge is applied within the 24 hours before the end of the current period.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions on your device.
If the subscription includes a free trial period, any unused portion is forfeited when you purchase the subscription.
The price and duration of each plan are shown on the subscription screen before you confirm the purchase.

Excellent It’s very nice giving you good information about what is going to happen. I love this kind of information.
Solar Alert 5.0 — the biggest update in its history. Space weather, explained.
THE APP NOW EXPLAINS ITSELF
• Tap the help button on any screen and Solar Alert tells you what you are looking at. More than 900 explanations across 17 screens, in five languages, at two levels: a quick line answering “what is this”, and the full scientific context if you want to go deeper. Includes a tutorial mode that walks you through each screen step by step.
YOUR ALERTS, ALWAYS AT HAND
• A new screen keeps the last fifty alerts you have received, each with its image or animation you can enlarge. And tapping a notification takes you straight to that event, with no steps in between.
DISCOVER PREMIUM FOR 30 MINUTES
• If you are on the free version, you can open the Premium content for half an hour, once. No payment, no details to hand over and nothing to cancel afterwards.
DATA, EVEN IF A SOURCE GOES DOWN
• We have improved the redundant solar data system: if one source is slow or unavailable, your forecast still arrives by another route. Information loads considerably faster and the scientific panels refresh on their own every minute, with no flicker.
A FORECAST THAT FITS YOU
• It adjusts to your latitude, and now works without GPS too: type in your city or pick your band of the planet. Your location is used only to adjust the forecast on your device; we do not share it with third parties.
THE SUN, CLOSER
• The Sun view opens straight into the first image. Move through the 42 observation channels by sliding along a strip of thumbnails, all with native zoom. The OVATION aurora map goes full screen and the photo gallery flies.
BETTER ALERTS
• They arrive in five languages — English, Spanish, French, Italian and German — and solar flares now notify you both when they begin and when they end.
FASTER START, NEW LOOK
• The app starts noticeably sooner and, when you come back, you find it where you left it. We have redesigned the background images that show the state of space weather, with a special display mode for anyone who needs to read more comfortably.
NEW VIDEO AND CATALOG
• A new video shows what really happens during an extreme solar event: in your home, in your city and to the services you depend on. And you now choose which documentary to watch from a catalog.
14 YEARS BEHIND EVERY ALERT

STRONGER ON THE INSIDE
• We have fixed many small issues and strengthened stability across the app. A good part of those fixes came from the messages in which you tell us what you were doing when something did not go right: it is the best diagnostic tool we have. We have also brought the oldest part of the code up to date, to leave the app ready for the coming versions of iOS.
When the next strong storm arrives, you will want to be warned. You will want to understand what it means. And you will want the app that tells you to be up to it.
