Salty Offshore
Advanced Fishing Charts
Free · In-App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Plan the Run. Record the Trip. Learn the Water.
Salty is offshore planning and analysis. Plan the run on ocean analysis, record the trip, and keep a logbook that shows the conditions behind every bite. The more you fish it, the sharper it gets.
Plan the Run
• Ocean Analysis: water temperature, water color, currents, sea surface height, salinity, subsurface temperature, dissolved oxygen and more, for your region every day
• Overlay Datasets: put two kinds of ocean data on one chart and see where they agree
• Temperature Breaks and Eddies outlined on the chart
• Water Playback: play recent satellite passes and watch the water move
• Weather: wind, gusts, pressure and radar on the same chart as your water
• Shaded Relief and Depth Contours to see the bottom you fish
• AIS: see the boats working near you and where they've been
• Bite Windows, tides and live buoys for the places you fish
• Collaborative Planning: share waypoints, trips and your map with your crew
Record the Trip
• Trip Tracker records your trail, speed and depth
• Hands-Free Logging: log bites, catches and raised fish from the Lock Screen or with Siri
• End-of-Trip Summary: confirm your catches, bites and raised fish by species when you're back
• Waypoints save the places you fish, with the water at each one
• Position Sharing: send a link so someone ashore can see your boat
• Shareable Trip Images: post your day with your own photo behind the trail
Learn the Water
• Conditions at Every Bite: the water temperature, water color and depth at each bite
• Trip Analysis: the water along your trip and at each bite
• Season Patterns: see which conditions repeated across your season
• Waypoint History: see how the water has changed at your waypoints
• Condition Alerts: pick the water you want at a waypoint, and we'll notify you when it's there
Ready Offshore
• 34 offshore regions on five continents
• Offline Maps: download your water before you lose signal
• Saved Maps and Saved Overlays bring back your setup in one tap
• New Satellite Pass Alerts when new water temperature or chlorophyll arrives for your region
• Import and export waypoints as GPX files for your chartplotter

Bug Fixes
• Shared maps open with the same layers, depth, and pass the sender saved.

• Tap a catch or bite to see where it happened on the trip chart.
Improvements
• Trips start with the date and time as their name.
• Your trip's saved water stays in place while a retry completes.

• Follow how a temperature break moved across its marked points
• Pull the timeline to load earlier days
Improvements
• Tide heights use the unit you selected
• Current particles stay visible and aligned as you move the map

• Opening a shared trip no longer crashes or changes the original
• The app opens even if a Google Analytics file is damaged
3.9.0 3 Oct
See the rain the way you already read a weather radar.
New Features
• See which way a temperature break moved, and where it was about a day ago (Elite)
Improvements
• Radar and Radar Forecast read Light, Moderate, Heavy, or Extreme (Pro & up)
• A temperature break says Firming, Softening, or Steady (Elite)
• The strongest temperature breaks show first, and they show from farther out (Elite)
• The timeline names each day: Today, Yesterday, or the date
• Playback keeps one set of colors for the water on the screen
• Move the map and Skip Cloudy Passes checks that water
Bug Fixes
• Each plan shows its price
• A plan you bought on the web shows up the first time you sign in on iPhone
• Radar stays on the newest sweep while you have it open (Pro & up)
• When a layer doesn't load, the chart says so instead of keeping the last picture
• Wave Height and tide height read in feet
3.8.9 29 Sept
Weather and water read clearer on the chart, at every zoom.
Improvements
• Pressure lines and their highs and lows stay on the chart when you zoom out (Pro & up)
• Pressure numbers on the lines stay readable (Pro & up)
• Wind fills the map with more streaks, so the flow is easier to read (Pro & up)
• A spot's panel opens tall enough to show the forecast
• Color edges are described in plain words: which way the edge runs, where it breaks, and how much of the water the satellite could see (Elite)
• Settings gives the map, the boat marker, and the course line their own sections
• The timeline spaces hourly and daily steps evenly
Bug Fixes
• Radar stays on the chart when you zoom in close (Pro & up)
• Your plan shows correctly right after it renews
3.8.8 24 Sept
Choose the Course Line, keep the wind while you move, and Play opens the water again.
Improvements
• Turn the Course Line on or off
• Wind stays on the hour you hold, light air still shows a tail, and the streaks stay up while you move the map (Pro & up)
• Pressure lines cross the land, so a system forming there stays visible (Pro & up)
• Wave Height colors run through 30 ft, and the lines sit on the color and stop at the shore (Pro & up)
Bug Fixes
• A recording trip keeps uploading after the first send
• Play on an ocean layer opens playback (Pro & up)
• A spot's tide curve includes the morning, from the start of the day
• Share My Position is in the tools grid (Elite)
• Satellites is the last tile in the tools grid (Pro & up)
3.8.7 24 Sept
Hold on the water and read the spot in place. Salty keeps less on your phone.
New Features
• Hold on the water for ocean and weather in one panel, and the forecast across the hours, including tides
Improvements
• Solunar is on that forecast (Pro & up)
• Choose a Boat Marker, and how far the Course Line runs
• Shaded Relief can be Relief, Soft, Sculpted, or Paper, in Ocean, Chart, Spectrum, or Stone (Pro & up)

Bug Fixes
• Salty keeps far less ocean and seafloor data on your device, and clears it sooner when it builds up
• Wind colors run through 60 mph
• A sheet closes without leaving the screen behind it stuck, and the catch sheet stays at the height it is showing
• A saved map opens with its data
• Trip log actions fit the row
3.8.6 23 Sept
Radar joins the weather layer, and the navigation chart is now open to every captain.
New Features
• Radar replaces the Rain layer. See the rain falling right now, and where the model says it goes next. (Pro & up)
• Navigation chart. Put a marked-up nav chart under Salty, styled to your map theme.
• Paper. A third map theme, alongside Light and Dark.
• Field guides. Every dataset now says what it answers, how to read its colors, and when to trust it.
Improvements
• Wind reads as moving water instead of ribbons, and follows the real wind direction.
• Wind and gusts share one scale, so the same color is the same speed on both.
• Pressure has its own scale on the map.
• Your trip log breaks catches and bites out by species.
• A trip someone shares with you keeps its story, its tally, and its marks when you save it.
• One play button on the timeline, and the chart plays along with the water.
• Open a trip and its readings and its chart are both in view before you scroll.
• Layer controls are one set now, and the contours control sits with the other quick actions.
• 50 more named spots in the Channel Islands, the Baja islands, and the SoCal platforms.
Bug Fixes
• A saved map reopens on its own day instead of the nearest loaded frame.
• Depth contours stay under the land again instead of drawing across it.
• FADs turn on and off as one layer.
• The chart holds still while you pinch and pan instead of redrawing mid-gesture.
3.8.5 22 Sept
Weather starts at now, and you can tell us what would help.
New Features
• Suggest a Feature from Account Settings
Improvements
• Weather starts at now, not hours that already happened. (Pro & up)
• The map paints a resolution it can draw and reads the next frame ahead
• The region banner says whether the phone failed the trip or Salty did
Bug Fixes
• A missing-data value in the water no longer takes the map down
• A condition watch the cloud refuses is dropped, not retried
3.8.4 17 Sept
Pick Weather like the water.
New Features
• Pick Weather from the dataset list. Switch Wind, Gusts, Rain, and Wave Height. (Pro & up)
Improvements
• Your Season opens as a year in review, and it is there before the first trip
• A waypoint's week of conditions reads as change. The colour is the reading; a missed pass is a dash
• Offshore, Salty asks to record a trip once a day
• Remove a catch you placed on the trip
Bug Fixes
• The lock screen marks a fish without asking for a passcode
• The water you were looking at stays on the map while the next frame or model loads
• Notices sit at the top of the screen, above sheets
• FADs and Artificial Reefs stay on after you leave the app
3.8.3 17 Sept
Measure a front while the water moves, and see a shared boat as a boat.
Improvements
• Measure from the map rail so the timeline stays on. Drag a point to put it on the break.
• A shared boat is a hull and a name. A wake means they are moving.
• Share My Position writes how long is left and when it ends. (Elite)
Bug Fixes
• A paid renewal no longer reads as Free, and a web subscription clears the preview wall
• The Sharing pill no longer drops a live share
• Tapping a crew on the map opens that crew. Opening Crews keeps the map on those crews.
• Closing a trip from the list, a chip, or a share returns you to the map
• Deleting two trips in a row completes both
3.8.2 15 Sept
Hand a trip to another captain or your crew, read Solunar at any pin, and keep logging from the lock screen.
New Features
• Share Trip: send a link so another captain can Keep This Trip in their own logbook. They get a copy. You can't undo it.
• Share a trip to a crew. They see it on the crew map. It stays yours.
• Open Solunar on any pin or waypoint (Pro) to see the next bite window, and page five days of sun and moon.
• Log a raise where it happens. One-Tap Logging's fifth slot records a fish that came up and went down, from your lock screen.
Improvements
• A trip somebody shared says who fished it, under the date. A crew trip card shows the catch count.
• Siri logs any fish you name. "Salty, log a bluefin tuna" works now.
• Your trip carries itself to the cloud while you record it. A checkpoint sends only the new fixes, and leaving the app no longer resends the whole trail.
• The map's top-left control is a launcher. Tap it, pick one thing, and it closes.
• If there is an introductory offer on your account, it opens when you launch the app.
Bug Fixes
• Opening your trips list no longer freezes the app.
• Your tap on the lock screen confirms again.
• Opening the satellite pass picker no longer closes the app, and neither does the heading compass while you watch currents.
• Catches and bites marked during a trip keep the water they were caught in.
• Your plan is confirmed before any limit applies.
3.8.1 11 Sept
Log a fish the moment it happens, by voice or with one tap, and let the trip carry itself to the cloud.
New Features
• Log a raise where it happens. One-Tap Logging's fifth slot records a fish that came up and went down, with its place, its time, and the water it came up in, from your lock screen. Your trip's raised total adds those to the counts you type at the dock, and the tally names the ones you already marked so nothing gets counted twice.
• If there is an introductory offer on your account, it opens when you launch the app, and Map Tools keeps it for you until it runs out.
Improvements
• Siri logs any fish you name. "Salty, log a bluefin tuna" works now, and every marker in the app is a phrase Siri knows. "Log a catch" still lands on its own when you have no hand free.
• Your trip carries itself to the cloud while you record it. Leaving the app no longer resends the whole trail, so a long day costs you far less data on the ride home, and renaming a trip saves in an instant.
• The map's top-left control is a launcher. Tap it, pick one thing, a trip, a crew, a time window or a symbol, and it closes. What you picked rides on the chip beside it, and tapping the chip clears it.
• The trip share card tells the day species by species, with a record for each one.
• The guided tour shows you Salty by having you use it, and every captain gets it now.
• Locked features look like everything else. Tapping one opens your plan options instead of a padlock.
Bug Fixes
• Your tap on the lock screen confirms again. The trip card was updating so often that iOS started dropping it, so a captain who marked a fish saw nothing happen and tapped again.
• A confirmation on the lock screen says the fish once. It used to read "White Marlin Bite bite".
• Opening the satellite pass picker no longer closes the app, and neither does the heading compass while you watch currents.
• Catches and bites marked during a trip keep the water they were caught in. Any that never got their water ask for it again.
• Your plan is confirmed before any limit applies, so the seconds after launch no longer show a paywall or "limit reached" to a captain who has paid.
• A recent waypoint edit is no longer overwritten by an older copy when the app syncs.
• The lock-screen trip card stays on the screen through an app update while you are recording.
• Tapping a trip no longer blinks every other trail off the map, and a trip's name is no longer hidden behind a region label.
3.8.0 8 Sept
Share your boat with other captains, close out every trip by species, and keep learning from the days you ran.
New Features
• Share My Position: send a timed link so other captains can see your boat, how fresh your position is, and the water under you. Stop sharing at any time. When it ends, your boat leaves their map. (Elite to share)
• When you end a recorded trip, a catch summary asks what you caught, what bit, and what you raised. Raised is its own count. Add a missed fish at the right point on your trail before you confirm.
Improvements
• Hold two fingers on the map for a quick measure
• Invite a crew with a link, and open it to see what you are planning together on one map. (Pro & up)
• Free captains can drop and see their own pins, up to 10. Import stays on a paid plan.
• Basic and Pro captains see one Free Trips card. The lock screen and your trip list show your day's record while you record.
• If your plan ended, we tell you what happened. You can still open your own trips, and a come-back offer sits in Map Tools.
• When chlorophyll is on the map, pick any satellite pass
• Recorded trails draw smoother, without moving your fixes
• Name a trip yourself from the trip screen
Bug Fixes
• Your paid plan stays with the account that bought it. The app no longer moves it during an automatic restore
• Stripe renewals and failed cards now update your access
• Saved overlays add their layers without clearing the ones already on the map. (Elite)
• Sign-in errors explain what went wrong in plain language
• The map brings your ocean data back when you return, and no longer dies when you zoom all the way out
• Trip and crew lists stay smooth when you scroll
• The lock-screen clock matches the trip you are recording
• Trip Analysis on a finished trip comes back. If it stops, Retry asks again.

3.7.0 26 Aug
Trips reach the cloud the moment you hit Record, and a saved trip now shows you the water from the day you ran it.
New Features
• Open a saved trip and the map paints that day's ocean data behind your track. Switch datasets from the bar over the chart, and pick which satellite pass you're reading
• When you're offshore, Salty can offer a clear "record this trip?" prompt so you don't forget to start tracking
• Trip Tracker guide in Settings covering recording, Live Activities, and Siri, including logging a bite by voice
Improvements
• A trip is backed up from its first fix instead of at the end, and keeps checkpointing while you run, so a phone that dies or goes over the side doesn't take the day with it. Every trip also shows whether it's backed up, and fills in the water it ran through on its own
• While you're recording, Salty tells you when GPS drops instead of leaving the numbers frozen. The trail picks up when the signal returns
• Importing another captain's trip or a chartplotter GPX lands as your own copy, so their marks never mix into your library
• The plans screen says what each plan gives you beside what other apps do, with a word from a captain who fishes it
• Your subscription shows a free trial's days left and names the first charge date. If you're billed on the web, we no longer offer you an App Store restore, and we confirm your purchase landed before asking you to set your regions
Bug Fixes
• An upgrade button inside another screen opens the plans right away
• Your trip keeps its GPS track through any edit
• A trip whose track went missing on this device comes back from your cloud copy
• A trip you delete stays deleted
• Waypoints waiting to sync are no longer dropped just because the record isn't loaded yet
3.6.6 16 Aug
Faster access to gallery, playback, and layer controls right from the dataset card.
Improvements
• Timeline row now shows a live entry thumbnail — tap to open the gallery — plus a dedicated play button
• Contours and Layers chips on the quick-action bar for one-tap control (Contours: Pro & up)
• Color filter defaults to Squash; chlorophyll water-color presets still switch into Emphasize
• Welcome tour points at the new gallery and playback controls
• Tighter timeline and thumbnail layout so the card stays compact
Bug Fixes
• Playback button renders as a true square on all devices
3.6.5 29 Jul
Sharper ocean-data controls, a longer free preview, and smoother everyday planning.
Improvements
• Explore live ocean layers and timeline tools for 30 minutes before subscribing.
• Water Clarity now uses clearer, fishing-focused colors, with Water Color layers grouped together for faster browsing.
• Hide/Show filters now use the full color range across the values you select.
• Add Swordfish markers manually or through voice catch logging.
• Announcements now show when they were posted.
• Crew-planning language is clearer throughout the app.
Bug Fixes
• Switching regions and reopening saved or shared map views now loads the correct ocean frame more reliably.
• Gulf station conditions keep loading when new status values appear, including vertical-current-only readings.
• Canceling an App Store purchase no longer shows a false unlock confirmation.
3.6.4 24 Jul
Log your day by talking instead of typing.
New Features
• Log by Voice: say what you caught, what bit, and what you raised, check the list, then save it to your trip
• Say "start a trip" to Siri and Salty opens and starts recording
Improvements
• Siri understands more ways to log a fish, like "caught a sail," "got a bite," and "raised one"
• Waypoints you save on another phone show up on this one right away
• Tap a boat to see its size, class, permits, and home port (Elite)
• Boats with no name are labeled by their number, and boats are on the map by default until you turn them off (Elite)
• Learn Salty shows your progress on the map and opens your next lesson
Bug Fixes
• The trip graph shows time of day along the bottom
• The trip sheet shows the crosshair's coordinates and depth, and the crosshair stays hidden in playback and satellite tracking
• Fish with no species show as fish, not "unspecified"
• Waypoint water temperature shows in your temperature scale
