Ratings and Reviews
Good maps app that is still miles away from Google maps
I want to leave some critique: THE MAIN reason why I genuinely dislike the maps and what makes it unusable for me is that you can’t check photos and all reviews IN THE APP. What is the reason for having Yelp at all? Just add comments, reviews, and photos TO THE MAPS; it’s 2021. Imagine a situation when you’re looking for someplace in a car or on the street. You need to do it quickly and get all information together and make a decision asap. You start checking the place and decide to check the reviews, and it opens Yelp for some reason, and everything becomes a mess. Buy Yelp finally, or get rid of it. Some minor stuff is about dark theme: it is… bad. Are you okay guys? Did you hire some designers from Microsoft? What is going on with the software and UIX design?
It does give directions on the route to take…
It works, but in a rather limited way. I’m really trying to like it and stick with, I rather not go back to google maps, but it’s really making it difficult. It’s come a long way, but yet still so far behind.
Pro
1) routing works and new streets have been added, at least the ones in my area thus far
2) turn by turn directions on Apple car play work fairly well
Cons
1) traffic is not functioning or not updated, quite a few times it’s given me a route where I know a highway is closed for maintenance, google maps listed this
2) reviews are all on yelp, I don’t use yelp and find it annoying that a map app requires you to use another app to give reviews or read them properly
3) when using app on your phone, the image on which lanes to use tend to update at last minute, not great on highways where it branches multiple times at once
4) business details are outdated, possibly pulled from yelp, either way, arrived at a restaurant or other place a few times now only to find it’s closed when Apple maps stated business hours showing it should be open. The annoying part is that google maps had the correct business hours
5) inability to add stops or search for a business while en-route to a location. Hate to keep saying it, but was a nice feature to have when I used google maps, you can add a stop along your route easily
Too many Christmas decorations
I’m not a tourist, I just want to see the place, city or town. I don’t want to see every chintzy hotel, diner, cafe or coffee shop.
I want to get rid of those shiny memory soaking things. Give me that _option_ as it reduces the chance of of the decorations sniffing out my personal info.
