Controller for HomeKit 4+

TLDR:
This app is worth it just for the backup and restore feature alone!

I’ve been having a lot of trouble lately with my iCloud not syncing and HomeKit configurations getting corrupted by one of my devices. Not sure if it’s my phone or AppleTV or HomePods...
The backup and restore feature is awesome and saved me MANY MANY hours of setup after completely wiping my Home and starting over. The restore feature is *almost* perfect. If the dev is reading this review... is there any way you could make the device assignments automatic like all the rest of the restoration process? Maybe using the MAC address or something? Having to reassign 30+ Hue light bulbs and motion sensors to the correct rooms one at a time is quite a pain.

To your question: As you are wiping your complete setup, you need to add all devices back by scanning them or insert their number code. Afterwards your same "physical" devices have completely different identifiers in HomeKit. Also their device and service names are again the factory defaults. So there is no real chance to match them automatically. It is part of the HomeKit security concept, that there is no MAC address or similar the app could use. Not all devices provide a serial number.
The suggestions are quite good, but even they cannot distinguish between 30+ Hue bulbs.
If you do not delete the home setup, but only parts of it, the mapping should be done almost automatically, because the internal device id's are still valid. In case you accidentally deleted automations, scenes or other parts, you can restore much easier.
I will investigate further about the options to improve the backup / restore mechanism! :)

This app supposedly does a lot of amazing things but good luck getting started. It seems you are entirely on your own when trying to figure it out.

I can’t find any documentation, not even any how to examples. I realize very few iOS apps have user guides, but this app desperately needs at least some examples to start with.

I don’t expect a guide to features that are native to Apple’s Home app. That sort of knowledge is an obvious prerequisite to an app like this.

But I do expect step-by-step “how to” examples for the enhanced functionality this app brags about.

The custom views feature is very minimal. Not really useful. I was expecting to be able to customize a view where I could gather the accessories I wanted, and be able to activate the accessories from one single screen. To activate one accessory, I have to go through 4 or 5 screens. Unless I'm missing something, in which case a minimum of documentation would be helpful. But that is lacking too.
The backup feature worked great with my over a hundred accessories and automations. But I didn't try to restore: I'll wait until I really need to do it.

There are two options, how you can use the custom view feature for the scenario you described.

1. Add the "Power state" characteristic of the services of your accessories you want to control. You will get a simple switch where you can toggle their state easily.

2. 3D touch: Accessory and service cells show some detail data on their right side. This data is coming from the first service, first characteristic. If you 3D touch the cells inside your custom view you will get that characteristic view, where you can change the value.
You can sort the services and their characteristics to change that targeted characteristic. Choose the "Power state" one.

You are right and the documentation will be improved. A detailed video about the custom views will be published.
