Grim Quest tries to blend tabletop RPG vibes, familiar dungeon crawling and roguelike mechanics, and a classic turn-based combat system into an accessible and entertaining package. Because of its attention to written storytelling, detailed worldbuilding and abundance of lore, Grim Quest can be similar to a solo Dungeons and Dragons campaign, or even a choose your own adventure book.
Grim Quest is a single player game and can be played offline. It has no lootboxes, energy bars, overpriced cosmetics, content locked behind endless microtransactions, or other modern monetization schemes. Just a one-time purchase for the full game, and completely optional goodies for those who wish to support the game and its development.

Grim Quest Checks All The Boxes
Being born circa 1980ish this game is like those I played in my youth, and that retro RPG feel also made me nostalgic for my pen & paper role-play days. Very well constructed, graphics are literally, “iconic” and real effort went into the gameplay, navigation and overall experience.
Misleading
I was thoroughly enjoying this game…simple control interface and combat system…lots of options and variations for replay-ability and customization…loved the look and feel, and as a wordsmith, was impressed with the in-game writing.
However, nothing in the app description, or the game introduction, indicated that this is only a trial version…it’s buried in the in-app purchases section. As someone who does not partake in such purchases, I had no reason to even look in that section.
You can only complete the first area before you are required to pay to unlock the full game…which came as quite a surprise, and a disappointment.
I have no problem with developers seeking compensation for their efforts…just be transparent about it…geez.
