Just Ok / Jan 2024 Review - Overpriced!
Big Daddy Pink!
My first renewal is coming up in February 2024. The renewal price is $101.99 USD. Back from $75 USD last year. Quite a price hike! I've now had the app for just under a year. Smartist has a phone app and a desktop version. However, there is no cross-populating of artworks across platforms. You must upload your art separately into the phone and desktop—a bit of a pain. You must always download a scene the first time you use it, which seems unnecessary as the image is greyed out before you press download, making it hard to tell if it's the right scene you want to use. You can like your favourite scenes, but they do not keep a folder of your favourites, which is just dumb. You can not upload shapes that are not square or rectangles. I find that too many of the scenes are for small works of art. Many of these close-up scenes are not even big enough to show a painting 36” x 36”. The app has so many scenes that it can take quite a while to scroll through them all. The app does have tabs to file the scenes into categories to help you browse scenes quickly. Overall, the app is not bad. I do prefer the desktop version as the screen is bigger, and I can see things better. But with modern life needing so many apps to do business, I will forgo a renewal as I find the price excessive. $101.99 USD equals $137 CAD at the time of writing this. It’s just too much money, and too many things irritate me about the app that should have been done from launch.
