I installed this plant album last summer to help keep track of all my garden flowers, shrubs etc. I loved the feature of being able to identify them by which flower bed I have each plant. That feature seems to have disappeared. So disappointed, I’ll be looking for a different app to use for my plants. I need to know where I’ve planted which plant in the spring.
Developer Response Hello ShirlGing,Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. I completely understand how important it is for you to keep the organization work you've done on your plants, and I want to assure you that it's not going away.We recently updated features included in PlantPal Pro membership, and made the decision to put our organization feature behind paywall. Our reasoning was to offer additional benefits to customers who have more than just a few plants, and who could benefit from a more comprehensive organizational system. If you decide to upgrade to PlantPal Pro, you will still be able to see all the organization work you've done before, and you'll have access to powerful organizational features such as Sites, Rooms, and Groups. We understand that it may not be for everyone, but we encourage you to give it a try with our free trial. However, if you do decide to switch to another app, we made it easy for you to export all your data, including photos. You can do this by going to the Preferences tab and tap Export. We want to thank you for your support and feedback. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us within the app. We're always here to help.

I USED to love this app as it kept my plants “grouped” and I can add photos as my plants grow and matured. However, ever since the <update>, the app CRASH closes the moment I try to open it. The developer was responsive at first (2023) but the issue has not been resolved. My email to him in Jan 2025 has not been answered.
Developer Response Hi Maymayl, thank you for the message and I’m sorry the app was giving you trouble with at-launch crashes. We recently worked with Apple engineers to ship a fix to the problem. We’ve also made quite a few improvements in the app for quality checks. Hope you can give it another try.Thank you again for taking the time to write in.

Greetings, plant parents! This update helps you see what’s ahead:
- Tasks due soon, at a glance: the task list can now show tasks that are coming up — use the new banner at the top of the list to show or hide them for the day. Guilt-free by design: a task due soon never becomes overdue; it simply comes due on its own date.
- Plan your care days: pick your favourite days in the new Task Preferences in Settings, and the task list will start those days with due-soon tasks shown — perfect for batching care into one relaxed session.
- Smoother timeline and photos: fixed an issue where the timeline or photo grid on a plant’s page could freeze or stutter while scrolling — photos load quicker, and the timeline now refreshes right away when you complete a task.
- Plus a round of polish and performance improvements throughout the app.
Hope you’ll enjoy this update! Please let us know if you have any suggestions or feedback.

* In the Tasks page, the “plus” button allows you to take a photo of the plant directly.
Thank you and hope you’ll enjoy this update! Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback.

New — Spotlight support: Search and find your plants with Spotlight. You can jump to the plant in PlantPal with one tap.

2026.16 Jun 23
Greetings, plant parents. This update contains some minor fixes with the UI and app localization. It also fixes some issues that prevented widgets from properly refreshing in certain cases.
Thank you and hope you’ll enjoy the update. Happy planting!
2026.15 Jun 9
Greetings, plant parents! This update contains some improvements in the app:
* The Home Screen task widget is redesigned to show a breakdown of tasks by task type. This can give you a much better preview of what’s ahead for the day — e.g. is it just about watering, or is there more work to be done?
* The Live Activity is redesigned to reflect your remaining tasks, whether for today or when you are time traveling to the future.
* Live Activity used to start immediately when you open PlantPal. Improved — Live Activity now intentionally starts when you check off a task. This should reduce the chance of you seeing Live Activity when you cannot take action (e.g. not home).
Fixed in the update:
* On iPhone, the list of rooms was not as accessible at the bottom. Fixed — the list of rooms is now collapsible at the top of the list, above your plants.
* The Photo Home Screen widget might not take you to the photo upon tapping. Fixed.
* Live Activity might reset your time travel settings when tapped. Fixed.
* Some button images might not appear properly on iOS 18. Fixed.
* Home Screen widgets might not load properly from the background. Fixed.
* The app might crash upon moving to the background. Fixed.
We hope you’ll enjoy this update! Please let us know if you have any suggestions or feedback.
2026.14 May 22
Greetings, plant parents! This update improves task notifications to help you get your tasks done, and keep your plants thriving.
* Set up notifications for when you return home — a great complement to time-based reminders.
* Snooze notifications for 20 minutes or 1 hour — just long press the notification and you can get another reminder in a short while.
Location-based notifications require access to your precise location in the background. PlantPal respects your privacy and battery life. It does not run in the background. Instead, it registers the area with iOS, and gets notified when the system decides you return home.
For power users, PlantPal now has two Shortcuts actions so you can automate it however you like it:
* The ”Send Notification” action sends you a notification from PlantPal, if there are tasks remaining to be done. You can wire this action up with your own triggers, such as location, time of day, focus mode updates, etc. — the possibilities are endless.
* Similarly, the “Get Task Summary” action gives you a string if there are tasks due. You can use the text in subsequent custom actions such as Messages.
Some other fixes and improvements:
* Morning Summary notifications used to light up the screen. Fixed — now it doesn’t light up the screen, produce a vibration or make a sound.
* Changes to a room’s colour might not be saved properly. Fixed.
* We updated the notification sound — it’s now modern and more cheerful, while preserving a slight touch of urgency.
* We redesigned the view for when you report issues with the plant library. The new design shows you everything you send to us for transparency, and allows you to provide more comments and context of your feedback.
* Snoozing might not suggest the best date to snooze to. Fixed and improved.
Hope you’ll enjoy the update! Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback.
2026.13 May 20
Greetings, plant parents! This update brings the timeline feature for your plants. It’s a great way to see everything about your plant — task records, photos, and text notes. And yes, you can now add text notes to keep a record on important things!
* The timeline view makes it easy to add text notes and write captions on your photos. You can also see records of your care tasks in the same place, cleanly sorted and laid out.
* You can swap to the classic photo grid with one tap — still the best way to see all photos of the plant in a compact design.
* In task list, you can tap on the + button to add some text notes directly.
Also updated or fixed:
* You can add the date of when you added the plant to your collection. (PlantPal may infer a date automatically based on your photo and task timestamps.)
* The plant widget would show the “Archived” badge regardless. Fixed.
We hope you’ll enjoy this update. Please let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions!
2026.12 May 5
Greetings, plant parents! This update brings some new features and improvements:
◎ Plant Widget — Pin your plant on the Home Screen!
We added a new Home Screen widget that allows you to pin a plant from your collection. Tap on the widget, and you can see the plant directly. It’s a great way to keep an eye on your favourite plant in the garden.
◎ Bug fixes and improvements
* When configuring a task to repeat, you can choose from more intervals that fit your needs. Repeat by 1-30 days, 1-20 weeks, or 1-12 months. The stepper no longer makes you jump between days/weeks/months.
* When you have multiple photos in your personal plant note, the thumbnail might change randomly. Fixed.
* Some labels and text contained errors or incomplete generative AI results, both in the app and in the plant library. Fixed.
Hope you’ll enjoy the update! Please let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions. Happy planting!
2026.11 Apr 22
Greetings, plant parents! We’re making an update to how you can customize care tasks for your plants, and what you can do in the app for free.
◎ Customizable tasks
You can now do and track a lot more with tasks:
* Customize how the task shows up in the list. For example, for users who have been doing semi-hydro planting, you can rename “Water” to “Top up” or “Flush”.
* You can create multiple tasks of the same type — perfect for when you need to apply more than one fertilizer, or when you need occasional special treatments with watering or pesticides.
* You can add some text notes to each task, to help you remember important information such as dosage or strength.
* You can enable or disable a task so that it no longer shows up in your list — much like archiving.
◎ Do more for free
We made some changes to how the app works for free:
* You can now manage 20 plants for free (up from 5)
* You will no longer see 3rd-party ads in the app
* For free users, it remains that only watering tasks are available.
◎ Other updates
Some improvements to the app —
* PlantPal is now localized for Italian.
* We reoranized sections in the plant detail page. The purpose is to bring clarity on different aspects of your plants — because there can be many!
* We added a few more external search providers: you can jump to an installed app with the search query for the plant in one tap, for Bilibili, YouTube, Safari (using your configured search engine), and Zhihu.
Some issues were fixed —
* In Plant Detail page, Garden Day might take effect 7 days of the week, regardless of your configuration. Fixed.
* In My Plants page, plants might not align vertically. Fixed.
* In Plant Library, each plant’s watering and light requirements are displayed more prominently (and more appropriately) with a new meter design.
Thank you and hope you enjoy this update. Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback. Happy planting!
2026.10 Apr 6
Greetings, plant parents! This update includes new and updated entries to the plant library — now with 504 items.
* We made some corrections to existing plants, including scientific names and common names in certain localizations.
* We removed some superfluous items from the library, especially cultivars that make the library search results clustered.
* We added dozens of succulents, mostly in the Crassula family.
* We added dozens of subspecies and cultivars of edibles, including lettuce, tomato, radish, and cucumber/squash.
* We added a dozen of common annual blooms around the globe.
* We updated the images of edibles and herbs — they are now more representative to the produce you can by in a shop, and how it’s usually planted in a small-space garden.
* We added some common cultivars of popular evergreens, such as ZZ, Monstera, and Syngonium.
This update also fixed an issue where plants weren’t being sorted alphabetically.
Hope you’ll enjoy the update! Please let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions.
2026.9 Mar 24
Greetings, plant parents! This release is a big one, just in time for the new season.
◎ Improved Plant Library
We redesigned the plant library so it is faster to search, more accurate to match, and more useful for everyday care.
- Fully localized: Search and match plants in your own language. Works even if you speak multiple languages.
- Works offline: the library can function without an internet connection.
- 200+ new plants, including popular herbs, fruits, and vegetables popular around the globe.
- Richer info and images: We used generative AI to help fill in photos, descriptions, and tags, making the library more informative when you are deciding how to care for a plant.
◎ Garden Day for your tasks (Pro)
For Pro Members, we are introducing Garden Day, a simpler way to keep a realistic weekly rhythm with your plants.
- One focused care day: Choose one day of the week as Garden Day. A rabbit icon and orange tint mark it clearly in your task list.
- See what is coming up: On Garden Day, PlantPal shows tasks that are due soon, so you can batch watering, pruning, and repotting instead of chasing them every day.
- Stay light on other days: On non–Garden Days, you only see tasks due that day, which keeps the list short and manageable.
◎ More ways to repeat a task
Your plants follow the seasons, and now your tasks can, too.
- Seasonal repeats: Set tasks to repeat only in specific months. For example, schedule a deep clean or reshaping for early spring and late fall, and keep your list uncluttered the rest of the year.
- Flexible intervals: Make tasks repeat every X weeks or every X months, such as watering every 3 weeks or fertilizing every 2 months, so you do not have to remember the pattern yourself.
◎ App improvements & bug fixes
We fixed a long list of issues to make the app run more smoothly.
We hope this update makes it easier to learn about your plants, keep a realistic routine, and enjoy your garden. We always welcome your feedback and suggestions.
2026.8 Mar 17
Greetings, plant parents! This version is focused on app quality improvements.
We improved how the app works with Photo Library:
* When you view a photo stored in your Photo Library but without providing proper permissions, you will now be prompted to grant or update app access.
* We updated labels and messages around the option to store photos with your Photo Library, to help more people make a good choice.
We improved the app’s UI:
* When you long-tap a plant, the menu shows with the plant thumbnail side by side, on iOS 26. The thumbnail also has a nice hover effect if you use Apple Pencil on iPad.
* Similarly, when you long-tap a photo thumbnail, the menu shows with the photo thumbnail side by side, on iOS 26. The thumbnail also has a nice hover effect if you use Apple Pencil on iPad.
We fixed some issues in the app:
* When deleting plants, photos, rooms, etc. on iOS 18, the confirmation alert might not show all available buttons. Fixed.
* When creating a new plant or editing text notes, the Save button now might incorrectly read “Confirm” on iOS 18. Fixed — these buttons now reads “Save” as appropriate.
* When a new day begins, or when the system time zone changes, the task list might not properly refresh. Fixed.
We hope you’ll enjoy this update! Please let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions.
2026.5 Mar 3
Greetings, plant parents! This update brings improvements around your care tasks.
◎ Filter and focus
We redesigned the task list so that it is more functional for power users:
- See what’s expected of the day: Is it just about watering, or should I get the fertilizers out? Now you know at a glance.
- Filter tasks by type: focus on plants that need fertilizing first, for example.
- When you are done with a plant, you can hide them from the list to focus on what’s next.
- Expand task detail and jump to the plant or the task history page easily.
◎ Bug fixes
- Live Activity might start more than one instance at a time. Fixed.
- Tasks might still show as “Due Today” after completing it the same day. Fixed.
- In plant page and in photo list, photo thumbnails may jitter when activating and deactivating long-tap menu. Fixed.
- App might crash when receiving large volume of updates from iCloud. Fixed.
We hope you’ll enjoy this update! Please let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions.
2026.4 Feb 17

This update also addressed some issues with app UI and localization.
We hope you’ll enjoy PlantPal! Please let us know if you have any suggestions or feedback.
2026.3 Feb 4
Greetings, plant parents! This update contains some minor fixes and touch-ups following the 2026.1 updates for more languages.
- When using PlantPal on multiple devices, if a plant or photo was deleted elsewhere, the page on other devices may go blank. Fixed — you will now see a message instead, explaining the plant or photo was deleted.
- Live Activity wasn’t started properly on iOS and iPadOS 26+. Fixed.
- The “Move…” menu might not work for plants in your list. Fixed.
- We added a subtle visual cue for plants selected and open in the plant list. This should help distinguish which plant is being selected on iPad, when using the 3-column layout.
- We updated the wording and tooltips around the “Filter” function in the plant list. This should help clarify the usage of the filter button.
In addition, we are dropping support for importing data from a backup. We updated the wording of the “Data Export” feature to clarify it’s no longer for backup — PlantPal still supports data portability, and you can export your user data to another application.
We hope you’ll enjoy this update! Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback.
