WildNX is a hunting app for British Columbia. Every management unit, every season, working with no signal. Built by a solo hunter in the Kootenays who got tired of opening an app in the bush and finding nothing there. THE REGULATIONS, OFFLINE All eight BC regions and every management unit. Seasons, bag limits, closures, limited entry draws, and the province-wide rules that apply everywhere. Downloaded once and read with no signal — because a hunter standing at a pond with a bird in front of him should not be told to open a website. Tap the info mark on any entry and it shows where the rule came from: the page, the schedule, the date. WHEN THE BOOK IS WRONG, IT SAYS SO The printed synopsis has errors in it. Where the book and the law disagree, WildNX follows the law, shows you both, and names the source — including one bag limit the ministry confirmed incorrect in writing. THE MAP Satellite or plain, with all 225 BC management unit boundaries drawn on it. The unit you are standing in is always on screen, and the app warns you before you cross into the next one. Provincial parks, ecological reserves and Indian reserves are drawn permanently, and it tells you the moment you enter one — private land needing permission, hunting prohibited, or a motor vehicle closure. TRAIL RECORDING Record where you walked or drove, name it, and keep it. It keeps recording with the phone in your pocket, and your tracks stay on your phone. TOOLS Compass corrected for BC declination. Wind. Sun, moon and solunar rating. A flashlight with SOS and Morse. Marks for the truck, the ATV, camp and home. PINS Drop a pin where it matters — a rub, a wallow, a stand, a shot. Notes, photos, distance and bearing back to it. HUNTING BUDDIES Add your partners and share your position with them. Both sides opt in separately, and every position shows its age rather than a dot pretending to be live. Positions queue with no signal and catch up when you top a ridge. SOS WildNX does not call, text or notify anyone for you. It writes your position, your management unit, where your vehicle is and your medical notes into one message and hands it to Messages — you choose who receives it. On iPhone 14 and later that message can travel by satellite with no cell signal. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911. A beacon brings someone. WildNX tells them where to walk and what they are walking into. Carry both if you hunt alone. WHAT IS FREE The map, dropped pins, every tool, the SOS message composer, your management unit on screen, boundary crossing warnings, hunting buddies with position sharing, and viewing trails you have already recorded. WHAT IS PAID Opening the regulations, and recording a new trail. WildNX Annual — $24.99 CAD per year, with a 14-day free trial. Regulations currently cover British Columbia. The map, the tools and trail recording work anywhere. Built for the backcountry. - Send a trip as a link. Your friend taps it, and the trip opens in WildNX and saves itself. The trip is locked on your phone before it leaves, so only people with the link can open it. The link works for 7 days. No WildNX? The link offers it on the App Store. You can still send a trip as a file. - Four new pins: Rabbit, Grouse, Detector and Trail Cam. - Hunt Forecast: each day in the 7-day forecast shows a short reason, like "Front coming", "Cold snap" or "Windy". - Hunt Forecast: the day's rating says why it is Prime, or what keeps it from Prime. - Hunt Forecast: the first dry hours after rain, near dawn or dusk, can now make a day Prime. - Hunt Forecast: wind is judged by the number you see, so a day showing 25 km/h is never Prime. - The best solunar times are marked BEST, so they don't mix with the day's Prime rating. - Weather on pins and trips: a new pin shows the weather for that hour, and a trip's card shows the weather at its start and end, with sunrise, sunset and the moon. - The trip card lists each stretch with no GPS signal, so a short trip distance makes sense. - Start recording with weak GPS and WildNX says so: "Waiting for satellites. Step outside for a moment." - OPEN A SHARED TRIP FILE in History now shows only trip files. - Bigger text on the pin and trip cards. - Plus small fixes.
