NaviFin: Jellyfin Player
One purchase, all your devices
$9.99
NaviFin now speaks 13 languages. Shuffle a series, choose the version and the audio track, and set a larger buffer for an unstable connection.
NaviFin is a native client for your own Jellyfin server, built separately for Apple TV, Mac, iPad and iPhone. It is video first, it plays what your library actually holds, and it asks nothing of you beyond your server address.
PLAYS ANYTHING
A hybrid engine pairs Apple's AVPlayer for pristine native playback with VLC for the exotic formats Jellyfin libraries are full of. MKV, HEVC, surround audio, embedded and external subtitles: NaviFin picks the right engine automatically so you just press play.
PROFILES FOR THE WHOLE HOUSE
Choose who is watching when the app opens, the way a television app should. Give every profile a face from sixteen built-in designs, or keep the picture already on your Jellyfin account. Pictures are stored on your server, so every device shows the same one, and a PIN can keep a profile to itself. Switching between people takes one tap and no password.
EVERYWHERE YOU WATCH
One purchase covers a true ecosystem app:
- Apple TV: a cinematic home with Continue Watching, Top Shelf, and a focus-native interface.
- Mac: a single-window app with a glass sidebar, in-window playback, keyboard shortcuts, and offline downloads.
- iPad and iPhone: an adaptive layout, Picture in Picture, AirPlay, and offline downloads.
MORE THAN A PLAYER
- Subtitle, audio track, and playback speed selection in the player.
- Skip Intro and Skip Credits, Next Up auto-advance, and trickplay scrubbing.
- Music: a full audio player with system Now Playing, lock screen, and background playback.
- Live TV with an EPG guide, channels, and recordings.
- Offline downloads on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with watch-state sync back to your server.
- Home Screen and Mac widgets.
- SyncPlay: watch together, in sync, across devices.
- Kids Mode: a per-profile rating ceiling with a PIN to leave it.
YOURS, AND PRIVATE
NaviFin talks only to the Jellyfin server you point it at. No accounts with us, no tracking, no ads. It handles real-world setups: reverse proxies, custom access headers, mutual TLS, and self-signed servers on your own LAN.
One time price. No subscription. No in-app purchases.
NaviFin is an independent client and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Jellyfin project. A Jellyfin server is required.
more NaviFin now comes in multiple languages, your settings follow you between devices, and Live TV has a picture on iPhone and iPad.
LANGUAGES
NaviFin follows your device language, or pick one in Settings, App Language, which is also the way to choose on Apple TV.
SETTINGS ON EVERY DEVICE
Sync Settings, on by default, keeps your theme, subtitle look, languages, skip and auto-play choices and Home rows the same through your Apple Account. Sign-in, engine, stream quality and downloads stay on each device.
THEMES AND TURNING THE PHONE
The theme you pick now reaches the whole app. Turning an iPhone keeps you on the page you are on. A title in a Discover library opens its request page.
LIVE TV
Channels on iPhone and iPad now play through the VLC engine, so a channel no longer opens to a black picture.
PLAYBACK
Playback Buffer in Settings helps on an unstable connection. Play asks which version on a title with several. The audio track in the original language says so. Left and right subtitle marks land on their side.
BROWSING
Shuffle on a series plays a random episode. In Music the alphabet list stays beside Artists, Albums and Songs on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Selected buttons on Home follow your theme. The season picker on iPad is easier to open.
DOWNLOADS
A High, Medium or Low download asks which audio track to keep.
WATCH ROOM AND MORE
Watch Room is a visible button on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and the Mac can host and join rooms. The Apple TV banner turns by itself, Clear All clears the letter too, seasons name their series, and on the Mac the pointer hides with the controls.
1.2.7 20 hrs ago
Offline when you are away from home, a simpler iPhone menu, more ways to set up Home, two new themes and pre-rolls before a film.
OFFLINE
When the server stops answering, NaviFin switches to your downloads and comes back by itself. On iPhone, Home shows Downloads while you are offline. Settings has an Offline Mode switch on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
IPHONE AND LIBRARIES
The tab bar is Home, Search, Browse and Settings; Libraries, Watch Lists, Favorites, Music, Live TV and Downloads are in Browse. Pin a library to Browse on iPhone and to the sidebar on iPad, Mac and Apple TV. Libraries open on their rows with every title below, with All Movies and All Shows tiles and a Director filter.
HOME
Customize Home has new rows, all off until you switch them on: Unwatched (one row with All, Movies and TV Shows, picked at random), Recently Released Movies and Shows, Recently Added Audiobooks, and Continue Watching merged with Next Up. Next Up leaves out what is already in Continue Watching, and a row you switch on shows up even when Home is at its row limit.
PLAYBACK
Pre-rolls: if your server plays intros before a film, NaviFin plays them first, and Skip Preview skips one. Info shows the file on the server next to what actually plays. Dolby Vision Profile 5 shows black as black. SRT subtitles tagged for the top show at the top. Subtitles in Portuguese (Brazil) are their own language.
APPLE TV
Lyrics beside the artwork, then full screen, and Now Playing goes full screen after 10 seconds idle, with up and down to scroll lyrics. Dolby Digital plays first when a film pairs it with AAC, and music asks for a stereo output after a surround film. Sort from the ... button inside a library. The Artists list keeps its A to Z rail on screen.
MUSIC AND BOOKS
A music library opened from Libraries opens the Music hub. Album art for artists is a switch in Settings, Music. Audiobooks and music playlists have square covers everywhere, and so do collections with square art.
ALSO
Two new themes, Ember and Grove. Delete from Server in the item menu for users allowed to delete media. Remove a saved server and its profiles in Settings, Server. Who's Watching shows profile pictures. Rate NaviFin in Settings, About.
1.2.6 3d ago
Quick Connect for Jellyfin 12 and on iPhone, a sidebar on Apple TV like the TV app, and new ways to browse audiobooks.
Quick Connect works with Jellyfin 12. iPhone and iPad can sign in with Quick Connect too, so an account that signs in through single sign-on gets in without a password.
APPLE TV
The menu is a sidebar like the TV app, with Search first. On tvOS 27 your profile and the time sit at its top. Settings, Appearance, Menu brings back the bar along the top. Swipe up closes the player panel. A long press on an episode no longer starts it.
AUDIOBOOKS
The Audiobooks tab shows your books by title, by author or by folder, and remembers your choice. Search finds audiobooks, and their authors no longer appear among music artists.
HOME
Customize Home has a switch for each library, so a books library can stay off Home. Rows that load slowly keep their place instead of pushing the screen down.
REQUESTS
A Jellyseerr title page shows Recommendations and Similar titles.
ALSO
Dolby Vision Profile 5 plays with the right colours in Apple's player. Trakt and Letterboxd read large libraries again. Movies and Shows list only films and series, without folders left behind by deleted films. Search remembers your recent searches and works from one letter. Live TV releases the channel when you stop watching.
1.2.5 Oct 10
Requests through your own Jellyseerr, Picture in Picture for MKV files, and a music section rebuilt from the ground up.
REQUESTS
Connect your Jellyseerr server in Settings, Insights & Services, and sign in with your Jellyfin account. Discover is the whole Jellyseerr page: trending, popular and upcoming films and series, genres, studios and networks, each with its own list. A title you do not have can be requested from its page, with every season, a single season or a whole collection, plus server, quality and folder for accounts allowed to pick them. Search shows titles your library lacks. Your sign-in renews itself. None of this appears until you connect a server.
PICTURE IN PICTURE
An MKV with common video and audio is repacked by your server without re-encoding and plays on Apple's player, which brings Picture in Picture on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. An MP4 with MP3 audio plays with sound and in Picture in Picture too. The badge before Play says when a file is repacked.
MUSIC
Album, artist and playlist pages, the playback bar and Now Playing follow a new, cleaner design. A playlist opens its own page from Home and every library. A new switch opens Now Playing when you press play.
APPLE TV
Round and capsule buttons get a focus ring that follows their shape. No white plate on a focused button. Skip Intro no longer flashes after you resume.
ALSO
Downloaded films keep their subtitles. The video picture keeps moving after you return to the app on iPhone and iPad. A title with several versions shows Choose Version on iPhone.
1.2.4 Oct 3
Live TV that starts, a guide that lines up, readable light mode, and a long list of fixes from our testers.
LIVE TV
Channels that stayed black should now start. The app asks your server to open a channel before playing it, so the server repackages the stream instead of re-encoding video it had not looked at yet. The guide lines up: every show sits under its own time, the ruler starts on the hour or half hour, and scrolling is smoother.
LIGHT MODE
Every glass button follows your appearance now. Buttons whose text sat on a dark scrim were unreadable in light mode; controls over video keep white text on a dark scrim.
PLAYBACK
Resuming an episode opens at the resume point instead of playing its first seconds. Downloading a subtitle mid-episode no longer confuses the audio and subtitle menus. Auto-Skip Marked Segments works on iPhone and iPad. Videos with MP3 audio inside an MP4 file play with sound. Episodes play to their end when the story continues under the end credits. Two subtitles no longer appear at once. Scrub previews use the images your server makes. Volume, mute and Volume Boost work on every file type on every platform. On iPad the player is truly full screen in landscape.
PROFILES
On Apple TV, your picture and name are the last item of the top menu bar, with Switch User right under it. On iPhone and iPad, Switch User is the first item under your picture on Home. The PIN pad for a protected profile works with the Siri Remote. Switch User reports the real reason when it fails.
DOWNLOADS
Ready for a Trip uses your server's real file sizes and tells you the exact limit and where to change it. A download at a reduced quality is a conversion on your server: only one runs at a time, the row shows the server's own progress and time left, and Original is one tap away.
LIBRARIES AND HOME
A library opens on its rows with every title right under them. A collection opens on its own titles. Mark as Watched and Favorites update the row at once. Home no longer shows an empty page after you leave it while it is loading. Posters load behind a proxy that needs custom headers.
MUSIC
Starting a song outside the Music tab takes you to Music. On Apple TV, an album opened from the Music tile opens its track list.
1.2.3 Sep 26
Profiles, and a long list of playback fixes.
WHO IS WATCHING
NaviFin can ask which profile is watching when the app opens, the way a television app should. Turn it on in Settings, under "Ask who is watching at launch". It appears from the second profile you sign in on a device.
PROFILE PICTURES
Sixteen built-in faces to choose from, in Settings under "Profile Picture". The picture is saved to your Jellyfin profile, so every device shows it, and so does Jellyfin in a browser. If your profile already has a picture, that is the one you keep, and the app keeps a copy of the picture it replaces so you can put it back.
SWITCH USER
The Apple TV screen is opaque, centred, and the profiles are twice the size. Every profile icon in the app now shows your picture, and profiles whose names start with the same letter no longer draw the same circle.
CANCEL MEANS CANCEL
Adding a user, or connecting to a different server, used to end the session you were in with no way back. Both can be cancelled now, and the profile you were using is still signed in when you do.
MUSIC
Music would not play at all on servers that refuse the older way of passing a token, which is the default on a new Jellyfin. Fixed. Audiobooks opened as an album list their chapters. The Apple TV music sections can be reached from the search field again.
SUBTITLES AND AUDIO
An external subtitle file that was ticked in the menu now actually starts. Subtitle languages are listed with English first and then alphabetically. The audio track you pick is held after a pause.
SERVERS BEHIND A GATEWAY
Custom headers now travel with images and with playback, not just with the first request, so NaviFin works behind Cloudflare Access, Authelia and similar gateways.
ELSEWHERE
Album artwork fills its column instead of sitting in empty space. The iPhone player can be held in landscape while the phone stays upright. A sign-in that could not be saved now says so instead of quietly asking for the password again next time. On the Mac, the troubleshooting log can finally be written.
1.2.1 Sep 21
Version 1.2 is mostly bug fixes.
PLAYBACK
Some files played sound with a black screen. Apple requires HEVC video in an .mp4 to carry one particular tag, and a great many x265 releases use the other legal one. Apple's player then plays the audio and silently never draws a picture, with no error of any kind. Those files now open in the other engine, which does not care about the tag.
Pause, then play, no longer jumps backwards. If you had skipped an intro or scrubbed anywhere, pressing play after a pause could throw you back to that spot.
Audio stays on the language you picked. It used to fall back to the file default after a long pause, and again on the next episode of a series, while the menu still showed your choice.
The preferred subtitle language in Settings now decides which embedded track a file opens on.
Scrub previews on iPhone, iPad and Mac for files your server has not processed, decoded on the device while you scrub. The preview also stays while you look at it instead of vanishing on its own.
The timeline runs the full width of the screen or window.
A MENU ON EVERYTHING
Hold the centre button on the Apple TV, long tap on iPhone and iPad, right click on the Mac, on any film, episode or series, anywhere one is shown. It offers Information, Resume, Play from Beginning, Go to Series, Mark as Watched, Mark as Not Watched, Remove from Continue Watching, Add to List and Favourite.
Mark as Not Watched is always there, which matters when your server thinks you finished something you did not.
Remove from Continue Watching clears the resume position without marking anything watched. Those are different statements and only the second one existed before.
READABILITY AND REACH
Skip Intro, Skip Credits and Next Episode were white text on a white button. They are legible now.
Now Playing is reachable again as a tab on the Apple TV, and opening it no longer strands you there.
Watch lists count what you have actually seen. A series with 39 episodes and 3 watched used to read 0 of 36.
Lyrics follow word by word where your file carries the timing, and grow with the panel on the Mac.
WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG
Settings, About, Troubleshooting prepares a redacted log you can send. An Apple TV can hand it over as QR codes or numbered pages, so there is no need to photograph a screen.
Server errors name their status instead of reading JellyfinAPIError error 0. Quick Connect asks your server whether it is switched on and reports the real reason.
The app finally tells your server which build it is, so a device in your dashboard stops reporting 1.0.0 forever.
1.2 Sep 13
New in this version
Offline downloads. Download films and episodes to the device and watch them with the server switched off. A downloads screen shows what you have, what is still arriving and how much space it takes, and the episodes of a series stay together under one heading.
Settings rebuilt. Everything is grouped into Server and Profiles, Playback and Subtitles, Appearance, Downloads and Storage, Services, and About, with a search field across all of it.
Sign in to a different server straight from the login screen.
Fixed
The search field on iPhone takes typing again.
The filter field inside a library now searches the whole library instead of coming back empty.
An embedded subtitle no longer comes up oversized with a size control that does nothing, on large files.
Downloading a subtitle while a film is playing no longer breaks the subtitles that were already in the file.
Disconnect and Delete All Downloads ask for confirmation again.
The switches for Kids Mode and for the library filters can be tapped anywhere on their row, not only on the switch itself.
VoiceOver reads the library tiles and the scrobble switches properly.
The open-source license notices for VLCKit are in the app.
1.1 Sep 7
The picture staying frozen after a long pause on Apple TV is fixed. The sound came back and the picture stayed on the frame you paused on until you left the film and came back in. It is fixed in the code and proven in testing, and not yet confirmed on a real television, so if you still see it after this update, write to support@navifin.app and say which film.
A library no longer stops at the first hundred titles, whether you scroll slowly or hold the remote down. Confirmed by the person who reported it, on his Apple TV.
Library search now asks the server, so a title beyond the pages already loaded is found. If a page fails to load, the app retries and then offers Try Again instead of ending in silence.
The Music and Live TV tabs hide themselves on a server that has neither. A server that has them sees no change.
Music playlists your server leaves unlabelled are no longer hidden from the Music tab.
