iSkitch 1.9.0 — WebP, quality where you save, and Resize in plain sight One support email, four suggestions. Two asked for things iSkitch already did — resizing, and JPEG quality — but hidden where nobody found them; the other two didn't exist. This release covers all four. New • Export to WebP: in Settings, in the editor's save button and in the save dialog, with adjustable quality and transparency preserved. 100% saves lossless. macOS reads WebP but still can't write it, so iSkitch brings its own encoder. • Format and quality in the save dialog itself: a Format pop-up and, for JPEG and WebP, a Quality slider — like Preview's Export sheet. What you choose there becomes the default. The slider in Settings ▸ Capture ▸ Output now appears for any lossy format. • Resize Image, in plain sight: ⇧⌘R, a button in the crop bar and another next to the pixel dimensions at the bottom of the editor. It was always in the Image menu; now you can find it. Fixed • The crop bar showed points, not pixels: on a Retina capture it said 1280x800 while the bottom bar said 2560x1600. It now works in pixels and says so, and typing 1281 crops to exactly 1281 (it used to give 1282). • JPEG at 80% is now really 80%: macOS's built-in encoder has its own quality scale, and its 80 wrote the tables every other tool (Affinity, XnConvert, Squoosh, ImageMagick) calls 94, so the file came out up to three times bigger than theirs at the same setting. The slider is now calibrated to the standard scale: the number you pick is the one any tool reads back from the file, and sizes are on a par. A user measured it across five apps. • Small images open centred: the editor window doesn't go below 800x600, and an image smaller than that sat in the top-left corner. It now opens centred (at 100% if it fits, scaled down if it doesn't).

iSkitch 1.8.1 — No Screen Recording permission? That works too On a company Mac without admin rights you can't grant the Screen Recording permission, and without it Capture doesn't work. Skitch got around that with the clipboard; iSkitch, until now, didn't. New • New from Clipboard: File ▸ New from Clipboard (⇧⌘N, Skitch's shortcut) opens whatever image is on the clipboard in the editor. Edit ▸ Paste (⌘V) does the same whenever no text field is waiting for it. The old habit is back: ⌃⇧⌘4 in macOS, then paste. No screen capture involved, so no permission needed — and a Retina capture keeps its 2x pixels. • When a capture fails for lack of permission, the alert explains the two ways around it — keep using macOS's ⇧⌘4 and let iSkitch open each screenshot, or paste with ⇧⌘N — with a button that turns the first one on right there. The welcome window and Settings ▸ Capture say so too. Fixed • Region and full-screen captures on a display running at a scaled resolution (for example a 4K monitor set to 2560x1440) came out at 1x or blurry. iSkitch now takes the region through the same screenshot machinery as macOS's ⇧⌘4 — pixel for pixel identical. • "Open editor after a system screenshot" now always opens the editor. It silently depended on the general "Open the editor" setting for iSkitch's own captures, so with that one off the watched screenshot opened nothing.

iSkitch 1.8.0 — Captures, as they should have been Capturing a window never actually captured a window: iSkitch photographed the whole screen and cropped out the window's rectangle, so anything on top came along too. Fixing that opened the door to the rest. New • Window captures arrive with the window's shadow and rounded corners, on a transparent background. • Capture the window you already have in front, straight away, with ⌥⇧⌘5. • Resize the image in pixels, with proportions locked and 25/50/75/100% presets (Image ▸ Resize Image…). Annotations scale with it and ⌘Z undoes the whole thing in one step. • Export to GIF and BMP. • Adjustable strength for pixelation and blur, saved per annotation: hint at an IP address and make a password completely unreadable in the same screenshot. • All five capture shortcuts can be changed one by one in Settings ▸ Capture ▸ Shortcut. • An optional window invites you to subscribe to product news. Your email only reaches us if you type it, accept the privacy policy and press the button. Fixed • Capturing a window captures that window, with nothing that happened to be on top of it. • ⌥⌘5, ⌥⌘3 and ⌥⇧⌘4 work from any app. Only ⌥⌘4 was a real global shortcut before. • JPEG and BMP no longer frame transparent areas in black. • The bottom bar reported half the pixels a capture really had, and resizing started from that wrong figure.

iSkitch 1.7.0 — Stamps, the way Skitch did them A stamp is no longer a lone symbol. It is now the Skitch callout: a coloured disc with the sign in white, a tail to point with, and room for a label. This one comes from a long-time Skitch user who missed exactly this — and he was right. New • Exclamation (!) and question (?) stamps. The two signs most used to flag something or to mark a doubt. The Stamp tool now offers seven. • Stamps are drawn on a coloured disc, with the sign in white — the Skitch look. Until now only the numbered stamp had it. • A tail to point with. With the Select tool, a stamp shows a loose handle to its right: drag it and the stamp grows a tail pointing wherever you want, like the tip of a speech bubble. Drag it back under the disc and it goes away. • A label beside the stamp. Double-click a stamp with Select and you can write next to it. On numbered stamps, the double-click corrects the number. Fixed • iSkitch no longer asks for Screen Recording permission over and over. The welcome window checked the permission by asking the system for its shareable content, which is a protected call: when the permission is missing, macOS shows its dialog. And it did so every two seconds. The periodic check now only reads the status and never opens a dialog. • Resizing no longer changes anything until the pointer really moves. iSkitch 1.6.0 — Now in 18 languages iSkitch now speaks ten more languages. It follows your system language automatically, and you can change it any time in Settings > General > Language. As always, iSkitch collects no data and nothing leaves your Mac. Ten new languages • Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Russian, Dutch, Swedish, Polish, Turkish, Czech, Indonesian and Catalan — eighteen in total. Better wording in the languages that were already there Translating the app in depth brought some long-standing mistakes to light: • The "open" arrowhead no longer reads as the verb "open". It describes an arrow tip that is not filled in, but six of the seven existing languages had turned it into a verb. • The Settings section named "Feedback" is now "Sound". It has a speaker icon and a single setting — play a sound when capturing — but the old name suggested it was for contacting the developer. • Tool and settings labels were reviewed across the board, and the shape fill, the Spotlight tool and the freehand pen now read correctly in the languages where they did not. iSkitch 1.5.0 — Accessibility and reliability This update makes iSkitch far easier to use with VoiceOver and the keyboard, adds multi-display capture, and fixes several issues under the hood. As always, iSkitch collects no data and nothing leaves your Mac. More accessible • VoiceOver now announces the Settings controls, every tool button, the colours (by name), the line widths and the annotations on the canvas — each with its selected state. • You can work without a mouse: arrow keys move the selected annotation on the canvas (hold Shift for larger steps), and you can define a capture region with the arrow keys and confirm with Return. Faster copying • Copy the annotated image straight from the Edit menu, with a keyboard shortcut (Command-Shift-C). • Copying is now instant — the image is encoded only when you paste. Multi-display capture • On setups with more than one monitor, the region and window capture overlay now appears on every screen, not just the main one. Reliability fixes • The app stays light over long sessions: closed editor windows are now released from memory. • Undo after cropping, rotating or flipping no longer misplaces your annotations. • Entering crop from the menus now behaves consistently. • Saving or copying a large screenshot could lose your annotations: the file was written without them and the window closed as if it had been saved. iSkitch now warns you and exports nothing instead. • Hidden areas are always fully opaque. In rare cases pixelate and blur fell back to a translucent grey that could still be read — in the exported file too. • Saving and sharing full-screen captures is much faster: they were being processed at four times the size needed. • The default save folder is remembered between launches, and watching the system screenshots folder no longer stops after you change it. • iSkitch no longer even requests network access. iSkitch 1.4.1 — Edit text you've already added You asked, we fixed it: you can now go back and change the words in a text annotation after you've created it. • Double-click a text annotation with the Select tool to reopen it for editing. • Or pick the Text tool and click an existing text to edit it, instead of dropping a new one on top. • Select a text and the top bar now shows its color, font, size and bold/italic, so you can restyle it without switching tools. Undo and redo work throughout — press Command-Z to bring back the previous text. Clearing a text completely removes it (and that's undoable too). Larger images fit to the visible area automatically. • Opens on the right display: with more than one monitor, the editor appears on the screen where you are working, not always on the main one. • Precision tool cursors: every drawing tool (and crop) now shows a crosshair with a mini icon of the active tool — it switches instantly when you change tools. iSkitch 1.2.2 — Smarter cropping Cropping is much nicer now: • Crop fits the whole image to the visible area instead of jumping to full size — you see everything at once, with the entire image selected by default. • Drag the handles or type an exact width × height to crop. After you apply or cancel, the result fits the window again. • Crop handles, border and the rule-of-thirds grid now keep a comfortable on-screen size at any zoom level. • Fixed: opening an image no longer shows a stray resize cursor — the canvas now uses a crosshair while drawing or cropping, and an arrow with the Select tool. Skitch 1.2 — Open the editor automatically after a screenshot By popular request, iSkitch can now open the editor by itself right after you take a screenshot — so you can keep using the macOS ⌘⇧4 shortcut you already know. • Open editor after a system screenshot: turn it on in Settings ▸ Capture, point iSkitch at the folder where macOS saves screenshots (usually the Desktop), and every new capture opens straight in the editor. • "After capturing" actions, Shottr-style: choose Show editor, Copy to clipboard and/or Save to file — in any combination. The default keeps the familiar behaviour (just show the editor). • Customisable capture shortcut: the built-in ⌥⌘4 can now be rebound to any key combination you like, in Settings ▸ Capture ▸ Shortcut. • Plus: the full macOS menu bar now stays available whenever an editor window is open.
