Description

The LibraryThing app allows LibraryThing members to catalog and browse their collections. LibraryThing is focused on books, but you can add most media, including books, DVDs and CDs. LibraryThing relies on data from Amazon, and over 65 million library records.

Add books by searching for them or scanning their ISBN barcode with the camera.

Add high-resolution cover photos of your books with the cover editor and browse your books by cover type to find copies that need better covers.

Great but lacks a couple things

Love this app for the ease of adding books by scanning barcodes.
The trouble I’m having is that there is no way to add a book that it doesn’t recognize. I had about ten books in the first hour of using this that didn’t register and there is no option to “add” a brand new entry to the system.

Other that that it is extremely easy to use.

I am happy for the update

I been using LibraryThing since 2010. Still I am using the website site instead of the app. I wish there was an app for the iPad. LibraryThing is one of the best Book Collection available.

Glitchy!

It is beyond annoying to try and type full titles, properly spelled, using an iPhone! If you type one letter wrong it comes up with "No results" and you have to start over. If you notice you have misspelled any part of the title before you hit search, you still need to retype the whole title as you can't select the portion to change. You should not have to type the whole title before suggestions come up yet this is exactly what you have to do since typing is not intuitive or auto-correcting.

You would think the option to scan the book's barcode would make the process easier and faster. Nope. The scanner only works one out of every ten times. Most of the time that it does work, it comes up with "No results found." How am I supposed to catalogue books that I have that this stupid app doesn't believe exists?

When results are found-app only uses Amazon for its source library-the cover selection is often limited or wrong. You are supposed to be able to upload your own cover from a picture that you took of it, or "grab it from the web" by typing in the URL. Both of these processes involve 16 steps when one would do, and I still haven't been able to upload a book cover photo from my photo library. Request to do so is unresponsive.

Finally, it would be nice to be able to categorize the books in "My Library" by genre, author, etc. Instead, the only option is to lump everything in together. As a teacher, I have over 500 children's books and novels. I'm sure you can intuit my absolute frustration!!! The only thing this app is good for, in my opinion, is being able to see what books you already have to avoid buying duplicate copies.
