NotePlan - Calendar Driven Note Taking
A note-taking app for pros where tasks are first-class citizens and daily notes are tightly integrated with your calendar and reminders.

Start your 1-month free trial now for Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

Document your meetings efficiently. Then share the decisions and action points with your team to keep everyone in sync.

Using Markdown and notes saved in plain-text popular organization frameworks such as Bullet Journal and Zettelkasten are naturally supported.

Integrate iCloud (iCal, Google, Exchange) calendars and Reminders and keep an eye on your time side-by-side with tasks and notes.

NotePlan is organized around notes – one note per day, plus any number of undated notes that you can set up in parallel.

Jot down notes and additional to-dos as they occur to you. At the end of the day or first thing tomorrow review the note and prioritize for the next day.

With NotePlan your day doesn't start with a list of unimportant notes and tasks that were automatically carried over from yesterday. Instead, you start your day with a blank canvas, which is like a built-in purging system. You have a daily notepad for quick ideas, pieces of information, meeting notes, or tasks that need to be jotted down.

Your notes are based on Markdown and saved in plain-text files. This means your data is easily accessible at all times. And your devices are kept up-to-date using CloudKit.

NotePlan also syncs with your iCloud Calendar and Reminders, so you have all the important information in one place, right when you need it.

- “As a startup founder, I must be as productive as possible. I've tried many productivity programs, only to be disappointed in their performance. NotePlan is the first app that continues to feel fast and responsive, supporting my full calendar, to-do lists, project plans, and meeting notes! Highly recommended!” - Clint Laskowski (Founder & CEO - Summary Medical, Inc.)

- “NotePlan is a critical component of my productivity workflow. I've converted fully to Markdown for all of my notes and NotePlan handles this so well, bringing together my daily agenda items and any associated notes I take. I really love the Calendar and Reminders integration, but the flawless sync to iOS really takes the cake.” - Brad Rokosz (Enterprise Strategist)

- “NotePlan delivers in a pragmatic and beautiful way the dream of notes and actions in one app. I always have context when doing my tasks. It is simple yet powerful and I positively love that it is built around Markdown, which allows for great interoperability with other apps. It runs beautifully in both my Macbook and my iOS devices.” - Ricardo Liberato (Agile and Devops Entrepreneur)

- "NotePlan allows professionals around the world to keep track of their jam-packed schedules and focus on their tasks rather than on managing them." - Christine Preusler, Hosting Advice

- "It's ideal for planning out your day, Bullet Journal style. [...] the combination of scheduling, tagging, and (plain text, portable) notes in one place makes it a true productivity tool." - Brett Terpstra, MacStories

- "Enter NotePlan, my favorite digital Bullet Journal application. NotePlan combines your tasks and your calendar [...]. It does all this in a system that any Bullet Journaller will recognize." - Curtis Mchale, The Sweet Setup

What’s New

Version 3.0.18

I know, this release took very long but finally, it's here! This took a bit longer because I had to be very careful with the new features and build many tests to make sure nothing breaks (fingers crossed).

If you see any issues or have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out:

• Folding Text:

→ You can fold text at every heading (e.g. "## heading 2") to hide portions of your note which are not important at the moment and focus on the part you need.
→ Shortcut: CMD+/ (you can use it not only with the cursor in the heading but also anywhere in the next, it will search for the previous heading automatically).
→ With mouse: hover over a heading and click left on the triangle arrow button.

• URL in Markdown links is hidden:

→ URLs tend to get very long in Markdown links like [Link](, now they will be hidden and replaced with a link symbol.
→ Edit the URL by deleting the last parenthesis (or any part of the Markdown text). It will automatically unwrap the full URL, so you can change it and hide it again by completing the parenthesis.

• Images have a relative path now
• Undo shouldn't be so heavy anymore and revert a normal amount of typing
• Open Links under the cursor with shortcut Option+CMD+Return
• Checking off tasks with images won't erase the image anymore and many more image related issues fixed
• Cut & Paste images fixed, earlier the image was lost doing this, now NotePlan won't delete it if it can find it in your pasteboard

Brilliant App!

I’ve tried all the apps... this is the first that just fits the way I think. Thanks!

Thanks for your review! This really helps :)

Great App (Got a Suggestion!)

I love the layout of having notes for each day.

You can currently see the week and month with agenda, can you add a yearly agenda view? iPhone Calendar has this, and that’s one thing that is missing.

Thanks for your review!
Yearly is not included yet, because the focus is on the note-taking, but request is noted.

NotePlan Hits a Conceptual Sweet Spot

NotePlan (iOS/iPadOS) addresses the understanding that notes (ideas, journals, records) exist in the context of time. Of the many apps I have tried it perhaps comes closest to creating that bond. In terms of being a tool I can use everyday though, there is work yet to be done. To me notes are not purely utility, they also reflect my “creativity” in terms of content, layout and style. And for that, for now, I will remain with Bear (Shiny Frog). But I will be watching with interest to see if NotePlan develops as an editor as well at it has a chronological recorder.

A few of the more relevant editor function are:
• Hidden Markdown style symbols, most relevant being external links
• Document attachments, presented as textual links
• Photo attachments that are resizable within the note
• Ability to alter the text (name) of a link without loosing the linkage
• Ability to link to locations within a note (not just the note)
• Horizontal line separator (Markdown)
• Collapsible subordinate (indented bullet) lists
• Other Markdown styles such as underline, strike through, highlight...
• Footnotes (that can contain links)
• Display Task links within daily notes only (choice not to display the task’s note location header in daily note)

Thanks for your review!
I would love to hear more about what you are missing for the editor. Certainly a few things are planned, but it would be interesting to see what is high priority, such as separation lines, code blocks, etc?
