Description

There are a lot of running apps out there, but they all have something in common: they are either full of ads, are highly expensive or simply are and look very outdated.

Out-Run tries to solve this with a clean and modern look and being 100% free. In addition to that Out-Run is also one of the few running apps that do not require you to create an account, all information is stored locally and thereby protected from any data leaks or privacy scandals. And if you think: "Where is the catch?" - there is none, you can even have a look at the source code and confirm everything being said here, because Out-Run is fully open-source (source-code: https://github.com/timfraedrich/OutRun ).

# MAJOR FEATURES

- Keep full control over your data

- Record your outdoor workouts (Running, Walking, Hiking, Cycling and Skating)

- View detailed statistics

- Export your workouts as GPX or OutRun-Backup (.orbup)

- Fully customise the recording process

- Synchronise with Apple Health

I hope you love Out-Run just as much as I loved making it and if you find anything I should improve upon, please let me know.

Tim, the developer.

What’s New

Version 1.3

It has been quite a long time since the last update and while I am still working on some more fundamental changes to OutRun this update also marks a huge step in the evolution of this app.

I am very happy to announce that OutRun will now be available in ELEVEN additional languages which brings us to a total of thirteen and all of that thanks to a few really great people, who can be found in this project's README inside the source-code repository.

Other than that not much has changed in this version:

- There is a new contributor tab in settings, listing all the people who have considerably added to OutRun
- and the source-code button was moved from 'Support' to 'App-Info'

And that is that.

Great Idea! Exciting Potential

A big thank you to 9to5Mac author Bradley Chambers for pointing out this app to me! And to the developers for addressing the need for a paid privacy-conscience fitness app!

Here is a short list of nice-to-haves that I’d love to see added at some point soon, in order of (my) priority. It would make switching over from an app like RunKeeper a no-brainer for the privacy / no-ad folks.

1 - Call-outs for pace, distance and/or time. As Bradley suggested, this is a great feature to focus on next.

2 - Pause and Auto-pause. Right now you have to stop and create another run entry. You lose time digging out your phone to hit stop every time as well, but not a big deal for the casual runner.

3 - Countdown to start. Gives time to put the phone away before running. Again, not a big deal for the casual runner.

4 - Shoe Mileage. A bonus feature to be sure, not critical at all. Work-arounds possible.

5 - Music/Podcast integration (e.g. Overcast). Again, not critical at all. Work-around are possible.

I’m excited to see what’s next. I’ll be sure to tell my friends about this app.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for this really constructive feedback, I appreciate it a lot.

I will obviously keep all of those features in mind, some I will work on for the next few updates, some may take some time since I am working alone and need to prioritise features one by one.

For any further feedback, questions or assistance feel free to reach out to support@tadris.de.

Wishes,
Tim.

Crashes all the time

iOS 14.8.1 and the app crashes every other day. Can't finish a workout because of it. I even turned off the map, as told in the app. Doesn't help. Needs an update seriously bad.

Unusable on iPhone SE 2020 with iOS 15+

I absolutely loved this app when it worked -- simple and privacy-centric, apparently the only of its kind on the App Store.

Unfortunately, since iOS 15 (and intermittently before), the app is completely unusable. I'm able to start a run, but even with the map turned off to prevent crashes, the moment I navigate away from the app or my screen goes to sleep, the run is lost. Very frustrating to be pace-training and unable to see my progress. I hope the developer is able to put some time into solving these issues, as there is a need for a privacy-centric running app on the market. I'd happily pay for a premium version, assuming it worked!
