Wonderful functionality but …

It’s disappointing that you need to spend another couple hundred dollars to get voice control. Bit of a rip off in my opinion. Otherwise really excellent little app

Long term concerns

When it works we like it a lot, but I have concerns around long term support and some basics. Currently the app does not appear to be taking commands that I want to disable one schedule and turn on another. If I go to report this to support I have to go through a myriad of web pages and options. Going to support from the Apple App Store just takes you to an installation page that is of no value.

There times as well where the app simply cannot control a window correctly, or at all. I have had situations where a blind is working completely fine for over a year, then suddenly it won’t lower the shade anymore. I press the physical button and the shade goes down, and through the app the shade will go up. Try resetting the shade and the app makes no difference. Then a couple weeks later it all works again. Other shades have done the same though with completely no automation control. I should note that these blinds are in the same room as a repeater, the repeater flashes blue indicating that it gets and is transmitting signals, and all my blinds are hard wired to power (no batteries needed).

Hunter Douglas has a new series out that uses a different communication technology. Does that mean that my extremely expensive investment into automation of all my blinds has a limited shelf life? Will Hunter Douglas come and update the mechanicals to the new technology that presumably fixes the sporadic communication issues?

Annoying repeater settings

When you add any repeaters to the hub network, and try to adjust settings like “blink on commands” or the brightness of the light. The settings save but reset immediately.

So in the middle of the night the repeater starts flashing and it wakes you out of a sleep because its so bright.

Also the hub has the brightest light of any device I have ever added to my home, and it cannot be turned off at all.

Hopefully this gets fixed, it’s such an annoying stain on an otherwise decent technology platform.
