Great start

The app is beautifully designed and very easy to use. Happy to have a clean version to replace the ad bloated web version. I would give the app 5 stars if it had more options, beginning with automatic speed tests based on rules and schedules.

Difference between app results and Safari results for Speedtest

When I ran Speetest's web app in Safari I get upload and download speeds of about 130 MBps; when I ran this desktop app I get speeds of half that (around 75MBps). This is on the same network, connecting to the same endpoint. I repeated this experiment quite a few times, with varying results, but always the web app gave much faster apparent times. Either the networking in Safari is better or Speedtest is somehow doing calculations wrongly, But either way, users need to be cautious.

If I change endpoint to which Speedtest connects, I still get results that are also slower for the desktop app than for the web app. Ditto if I connect to a wired network (same campus). I note, however, that between sessions, the desktop app regularly searches for new endpoints; I wonder if this is somehow consuming bandwidth that is making it apparently slower.

Both apps allow download of history as a csv file, but the desktop app's data is much richer (has ssid, geographic location, number of bytes and external-facing IP, all not available from the web app's download log).

Take-away messages: Run tests repeatedly, and be aware that tests can vary widely from app to app, so use the same app to compare ISP's and do the comparisons multiple times over an extended period of time. Also factor in your LAN's speeds as they can make a huge difference. Wired may not be faster than WiFi, and different Wifi routers will differ a lot even on the same LAN, and proximity to the Wifi router will make a difference, as will other users using the network (at both ends).

My suggestion for the engineers would be to see if they can combine multiple runs on the same SSID (taking account of the above differences) and even recommending people try again making various changes until a more consistent picture becomes clear.

Really good

This is a great app, and exactly why I’m writing a review. Its smooth clean and gets the job done. I agree with the first review that a automated test option would be really cool, aslo I would like to see my results history laid out as a full graph similar to how it is on the website. Having the website and the app interconnect would be really cool as well.
