Typewise Custom Keyboard 4+

Good, but not as good as the standard IOS keyboard

I love this keyboard, and while I do prefer the hexagonal design to others I’ve used before, there are features the standard IOS keyboard has which Typewise doesn’t, and forced me to switch back. Specifically two: Swipe Typing, and one-handed typing.

Swipe Typing is fast, easy, and a feature I use almost constantly. It’s a shame Typewise didn’t have it. Swiping enhances the keyboard’s efficacy by a lot, at least in my experience. Also, the one-handed keyboard is useful for when you have to multitask, or you only have one hand available to type, which wasn’t available with Typewise. Which sucks, because I was just getting used to its design, and it actually does make typing faster if you tap normally. But swiping is more time-saving, and because of my ADHD, I’m always using my other hand for something.

Also — though more a personal wish than an actual issue — it would help if there was a spare section, or option to create a keyboard with specifically chosen characters, or such to individualize the user’s needs.

I wanted to replace the period with another symbol (&) since double-tapping already automatically ends a sentence, and I barely used the period key. Some symbols I regularly use required more tapping and scrolling, and consequently took more time compared to the standard keyboard.

I also really wanted kaomojis — buuut this is less important, plus it would kill the focused, minimalist design that defines Typewise. That is, after all, what drew me to the app. If we could design our own keyboard, or have a separate section we can put in our own essential characters, it would be a huge improvement! I would switch back to Typewise in an instant if these features were available!

Typewise is built for two-thumb typing, which is 33% faster than one-finger swiping, according to a large study conducted by Cambridge University and ETH Zurich. Seamless, smooth and wonderfully intuitive

This is the app for those who use the single finger pecking method. Before Typewise I would hit 3 incorrect keys each time I tried to get one correct. The extra landing size and shape makes for an easier and frustration free experience. Also an absolute joy is the ease with which any mistakes can be undone by swiping right. I have been using Typewise for over four years and can whole heartily highly recommend it!!!
