“Most importantly, I should stress again how refreshing it feels to have such a great native experience with Unread. The app is really fast, even when it’s loaded up with hundreds of feeds.”
— Niléane, MacStories
“It’s an RSS reader made with taste. It has great typography, themes, search, and compatibility with the usual suspects. I love having this app on my Mac.”
— David Sparks, MacSparky
“Unread is focused on eliminating chrome — it is a pure reading app. It’s like reader mode all the time, and the assortment of color themes is nicely curated.”

Unread has full VoiceOver coverage. Every screen and every feature is available to users with vision impairments:
• From any screen you can perform a magic tap, a two-finger double tap, to open a menu of options available for that screen.
• When on an article list, there are actions available for each article in the list. After selecting an article, invoke the accessibility rotor and then select “Actions”. There is an action to mark the article read or unread, an action to share the article, and many others.
• Use the VoiceOver escape gesture, a two-finger “Z”, to back out of the current screen.

I have never written an app review before. Apps are either good or not, who cares for my opinion. But I want to particularly point out how good Unread 2 is: it’s one of the reasons to continue using RSS today. It’s gorgeous, and the work put into it humongous. It formats the internet into a human readable and digestible form. I messaged the dev at 1030am on a Friday asking for help, the issue was sorted by 1pm. I don’t think there’s a more important app on my phone today. :)
When did this start costing $20 a year to use
Acid Caribou
Useless app that stops working unless you pay $20 a year. I’d pay a reasonable one time fee, but there are too many free alternatives. Look elsewhere.
Great but needs a web version
Sanity slayer
It’s the perfect minimalist reader. The UI is fantastic. I wish it had a web version so I could use it on my laptop as well.
Developer Response
Thank you for using Unread. I do not have plans for a web version, but I am working on a Mac version. Unread also syncs with a variety of services that offer web access: Feedbin, Feedly, Inoreader and NewsBlur.
Subscription 🤮
🏎
Yet another developer forcing a subscription and claiming it’s needed because they chose to bolt on a server–required feature. Let the dollar sipping app continue on its own, without your support.NetNewsWire is free and will likely be all that you need.
This update adds some webpage text improvements for some websites when using website accounts.
