What lies beyond Jetpack Joyride’s laboratory? Lots! More lasers to dodge, more power-ups to snag, and...hang on...are those boss fights?
The high-flying Apple Arcade sequel Jetpack Joyride 2 introduces countless tweaks to developer Halfbrick’s legendary infinite runner. Go the distance as Barry Steakfries or new hero Betty while soaring across wild levels—now with an auto-firing blaster! Here’s what else you can expect from this rocket-fuelled runner:
It’s Levelled Up
Jetpack Joyride 2 trades the original game’s infinite, distance-based running for level-based progression. Lasers, rockets, robots, and other obstacles stand (float?) in your way—but with your trusty jetpack and a newly upgradable health meter, you’re well equipped to reach the end of each section—and beyond.
Prefer to fly forever? Check out Endless mode. The further you get, the more points you earn. When you beat the final boss of a laboratory level in the main story, you’ll unlock it in Endless mode—and cooler still, upgraded power-ups and other items carry over. Scored a fire resistance badge? It’s especially useful in the fiery Subterranean Labyrinth!
It’s Bursting With Power
Speaking of equipment, how about a robot pigeon launcher? Spicy pepper bombs, anyone? Jetpack Joyride 2’s randomized power-ups could be just what you need to get a leg up. Upgrade each power-up you unlock to ensure they go the extra mile. Love snagging the Piggy Bank’s coins? With an upgrade, the money bath will last even longer.

It’s a Wild Ride
And this wouldn’t be Jetpack Joyride without rad vehicles. In addition to classics like the Big Stomper mech and the physics-defying Gravity Suit, the sequel features some curious new contraptions.
“The Galaxy Ship is something that’s really different from the original game,” says Halfbrick lead artist Toni Martin. “The first time you ride it, it’s like, ‘Whoa, what am I seeing?’ You’re suddenly in space, shooting asteroids.” Once you take some hits or the timer runs out, you’re whisked back to the lab.
It’s a Fighter
Reach the end of a sector and you might face Professor Brains or a group of evil scientists. Bosses test your skills by amplifying all the hazards you faced in past levels. Electricity? Lava? A giant saw? Bosses turn up the heat. Luckily, if you fail a boss battle you can jump right back in.

It’s Arcade-y
For a fun twist, try arcade mode’s wild limited-time levels—like Frost Survival, where you evade icy projectiles. These special levels rotate in and out every day.
“With arcade, we tried to break the mechanics that we have in the main mode,” says the game’s lead designer, Francisco González. “I’m a big fan of Footbot, a soccer match where you have to stop balls shot at you. You know how to fly with your jetpack, but the rules are completely different.”
