Freedom to communicate on your own terms
For individuals and communities - private communication between family, friends, hobby groups, clubs, etc.
Element X gives you fast, secure and private instant messaging and video calls built on Matrix, the open standard for real-time communication. This is a free and open-source app maintained at https://github.com/element-hq/element-x-ios
Stay in touch with friends, family and communities with:
• Real time messaging & video calls
• Public rooms for open group communication
• Private rooms for closed group communication
• Rich messaging features: emoji reactions, replies, polls, pinned messages and more.
• Video calling while browsing messages.
• Interoperability with other Matrix-based apps such as FluffyChat, Cinny and many more.
Privacy-first
Unlike some other messengers from Big Tech companies, we don’t mine your data or monitor your communications.
Own your conversations
Choose where to host your data - from any public server (the largest free server is matrix.org, but there are plenty of others to choose from) to creating your own personal server and hosting it on your own domain. This ability to choose a server is a large part of what differentiates us from other real time communication apps. However you host, you have ownership; it’s your data. You’re not the product. You’re in control.
Communicate in real time, all the time
Use Element everywhere. Stay in touch wherever you are with fully synchronised message history across all your devices, including on the web at https://app.element.io
Element X is our next-generation app
If you’re using the previous-generation Element Classic app, it’s time to try Element X! It’s faster, easier to use, and more powerful than the classic app. It’s better in every way and we’re adding new features all the time.
ElementX is certainly a very fast and responsive matrix client. Unfortunately it is missing a few features to make me switch from the older Element app. I would love to have an option to collapse threaded replies and a few customization options (mainly UI density, everything is too big for my taste). Might be worth another look in a few updates.
Great
unsurveilled
Also you should add a video circles features in addition to the voice message (that’s like telegram does it)Also the voice call being separate from video call is very importantSo yeah i would really like yall guys to take inspiration from telegram because i think they are close to the user friendliness of the interface
Still no support for OIDC
Dedebenui
It doesn’t show up any « login with … » button for my OIDC provider, even though the desktop app works fine with it
Don’t use it

The normal Element (none X version) is so much better. I have no idea what the devs are doing. The chat bubble colors are nearly the same, why?! Also starting a call is a video call and not a audio call - that’s so stupid! I use element only because it’s secure and I run my own family server. But everyone says that element is so bad - of course they know Telegram, WhatsApp and so… and they see the big UX problems and mistakes of Element X (and Element too). Why don’t you improve the UI ASAP to get new users instead of loosing them to Telegram and co.?
Element X 26.10 is available just in time for the 2026 Matrix Conference, and it’s packed to the brim with updates! So let’s cut to the chase, here’s what’s new:
• Woah, Message Search! Finally, you can stop the scroll, scroll, scroll. That link from last week is now just a few taps away.
• The days of being told you have an unread message when you’ve read everything are over! We’ve completely rewritten how message counting works, and added notification counts everywhere that match what you see in the app.
• When forwarding messages, there’s now a list of suggested rooms to help speed things up.
• For anyone who finds the little grey dots in the Chats list annoying, we’ve added a new notification setting so you can banish them forever!
• We’ve made it much clearer when edits and reactions fail to send.
• Toast indicators are now automatically announced when using VoiceOver.
And that’s just the start: we’ve fixed plenty more bugs and crashes, there are performance improvements galore, and we’ve made lots of visual tweaks for iOS 27. As always the complete release notes can be found at https://github.com/element-hq/element-x-ios/releases
