BRAW Toolbox allows you to import Blackmagic RAW files directly into Final Cut Pro without transcoding.
You can even import Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive clips as 16320x7200 side-by-side!
No more waiting. No more transcoding. No more massive ProRes files.
Save hours of time, and terabytes of storage!
It also now ships with a Media Extension allowing you to read Blackmagic RAW files directly within QuickTime Player, Final Cut Pro and other applications that support macOS Media Extensions.
The BRAW Toolbox Workflow Extension allows you to prepare all of your footage prior to import. You can easily and quickly change all the RAW parameters, and copy and paste settings from different BRAW clips. You can even save and restore Presets that contain specific parameters, saving time for example, if you always use the same Gamut & Gamma.
Once imported into Final Cut Pro, you can still modify the RAW parameters at any time.
You can even keyframe the ISO, Exposure, Color Temp, Tint and Custom Gamma Controls!
BRAW Toolbox comes with a Metadata View that allows you to view every piece of BRAW Metadata directly within the Final Cut Pro Inspector.
There are automatic Decode Quality options for both HD and UltraHD projects, and you can also work at a low Decode Quality, then apply a "Global Setting" to force Full Quality prior to exporting - meaning you never have to worry about creating proxies for performance. BRAW Toolbox gives you complete freedom and flexibility.
You can also use the Workflow Extension to send your project/timeline to DaVinci Resolve for grading - all using BRAW files directly from the camera!
BRAW Toolbox requires Final Cut Pro v10.6.5 or later. It works great on the latest Final Cut Pro v12.2 release.
Whilst it works on Intel, we strongly recommend Apple Silicon Mac's.
The BRAW Toolbox icon was designed by the amazing Matthew Skiles.
The incredible surf footage (as seen in the above screenshots) was captured by Sydney based Director/Cinematographer, Adrian Emerton.
BRAW Toolbox was created by LateNite - the same team behind CommandPost, Marker Toolbox, Gyroflow Toolbox and others.

plus BUG FIX:
- When using the "Immersive Export" feature, if you do an "Immersive Fade" at the of a clip, on a Apple Vision Pro, it would hold on the last frame of the Blackmagic RAW footage. We now apply a "Default Camera" for any non-Blackmagic RAW clips to fix this issue. Thanks Tim!
3.1.3 9 mai
IMPROVEMENTS:
- The Media Extension now supports "Better Performance" mode in Final Cut Pro. Thanks for your help and support Final Cut Pro team!
- Up until the M5-series, Apple Silicon only supports a maximum of 16,384 pixel Metal textures, whereas the M5-series supports up to 32,768 pixels. Due to this and limitations with Media Extensions in Final Cut Pro, when working with Blackmagic RAW footage greater than 16K on machines older than the M5-series, BRAW Toolbox now forces a lower decode quality so that the footage can import and play. On an M5-series Mac, full decode quality is supported. This is only relevant for cameras such as the Blackmagic URSA Cine 17K 65.
BUG FIXES:
- Fixed a bug where Gyroflow stabilisation would only work on macOS 26.
- Fixed a bug where Gyroflow stabilisation would only work at full decode quality.
- Fixed colour space handling in Apple Compressor. Thanks for your help and support Final Cut Pro team!
- Fixed a bug where an Apple Immersive Video Universal (.aivu) file from the "Immersive Export" could fail to load on Apple Vision Pro due to unsupported audio formats.
3.1.2 8 mai
BUG FIX:
- Fixed a very annoying bug that caused the Media Extension to stop rendering after 4096 frames - causing Final Cut Pro to display black frames. Thanks for reporting pratap and adamloretz-stack!
3.1.1 7 mai
IMPROVEMENTS:
- This release has MAJOR under-the-hood improvements for the Media Extension in terms of playback performance. The playback performance now more closely matches the legacy BRAW Toolbox Workflow Extension. It's not quite as good as DaVinci Resolve - but it's super close now. Thanks for reporting Dustin Painter & Robin! Thanks for your help Final Cut Pro team! Thanks for your ideas and suggestions AdrianEddy & Brian Elliott Tate!
- Gyroflow support in the Media Extension has also had MAJOR under-the-hood improvements. The results in the Media Extension should now exactly match the official Gyroflow application and Gyroflow Toolbox. Thanks for reporting mhbsavant! Thanks heaps AdrianEddy!
- The Media Extension now has the ability to read Gyroflow projects as sidecar files. If your BRAW file has a .gyroflow file with the same filename next to it, the Media Extension will use the Gyroflow settings from that file.
- There's a new "Immersive Export" feature in BRAW Toolbox. If you create a 16320x7200 @ 90fps timeline in Final Cut Pro and cut together Blackmagic RAW Immersive clips using the Media Extension, you can now export a ProRes and FCPXML, and use BRAW Toolbox to generate an Apple Immersive Video Universal (.aivu) file that can be loaded on the Apple Vision Pro.
- We now bundle two transitions in Final Cut Pro, "Immersive Fade" and "Immersive Cross Fade", that don't do anything visually in your Final Cut Pro timeline, but tell the "Immersive Export" tool to apply transitions to these clips via metadata.
BUG FIXES:
- The BRAW Toolbox v3.0.0 Media Extension was creating cache files that were not always correctly cleaned up - wasting hard drive space. This is now fixed. Thanks for reporting Iain Anderson & Christian Miranda!
- If the BRAW Toolobox v3.0.0 Media Extension was unexpectedly taking up hard drive space, please manually delete the "/Users/YOUR-USER-NAME/Library/Containers/com.latenitefilms.BRAWToolbox.FormatReader" and "/Users/YOUR-USER-NAME/Library/Containers/com.latenitefilms.BRAWToolbox.RAWProcessor" folders on your system to clean up the space.
- Fixed a bug where Blackmagic RAW clips were not displaying correctly in Apple Compressor. Thanks for your help Final Cut Pro team!
- The "Launch Final Cut Pro" button in the BRAW Toolbox application now works with Final Cut Pro Creator Studio (subscription) and the Final Cut Pro v11 free trial. Thanks for reporting Sebastian Leitner!
- Fixed a bug in the Final Cut Pro Workflow Extension, where the "Relink BRAW Clips within an LIBRARY / EVENT / PROJECT" Toolbox didn't support Final Cut Pro Creator Studio (subscription) or Final Cut Pro v11 free trial. Thanks for reporting Aldo!
- Reduced the application bundle file size by compressing a TIFF. Thanks for reporting Dmitry Lavrov!

3.0.0 21 avr.
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive clips now import as 16320x7200 side-by-side clips into Final Cut Pro. We apply the BRAW Toolbox effect to a 16320x7200 TIFF (as opposed to a Motion Generator) to workaround some bugs/limitations in Final Cut Pro's Spatial/Stereo 3D workflow. HUGE thank you to Iain Anderson for all his testing and support!
BUG FIX:
- Fixed a major regression/bug in BRAW Toolbox v2.0.0 where scaling a BRAW Toolbox clip broke the image quality due to caching. HUGE thank you to Nuno Meneses, Matt, camilledelbos and everyone else in the FCP Cafe Community for all your bug reports, support and patience!
2.1.0 11 avr.
IMPROVEMENTS:
- This is a MASSIVE update. We've made HUGE changes under the hood to improve performance on Apple Silicon Mac's. BRAW Toolbox should now be faster and more stable than ever before. HUGE thank you to the amazing Anton Marini for all his help, guidance, genius and support! However, due to the sheer number of under-the-hood changes, we highly recommend making a ZIP of your current version of BRAW Toolbox before updating for safety, so that you can rollback if needed.

- Updated from FxPlug v4.3.3 to v4.3.4. Thanks Darrin Cardani and everyone at Apple!
BUG FIX:
- Fixed a regression in BRAW Toolbox v1.5.0 which could cause non-Immersive BRAW clips to crash BRAW Toolbox. My sincerest apologies for missing this bug during testing! HUGE thank you to Aaron Hokanson, Chris Johnson, Joseph Teegardin, Sallen307, SamVChicago, Samir Varma and Vinnys-Cinevita for reporting and helping me troubleshoot!
2.0.0 3 févr.
NEW FEATURE:
- We've added a "Video Track" parameter in the "Quality" section for Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive clips - so you can pick between the left or right lens. You can then put two of the same Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive clip next to each other in a Final Cut Pro timeline, to do side-by-side immersive editing. Thanks for suggesting Iain Anderson!

1.3.7 19/12/2023
BUG FIX:
- Fixed a potential crash that we've been trying to solve for ages. On SOME systems (specifically systems with Mac2 family GPUs), Apple's Metal Framework would generate a Metal Texture that the Metal Performance Shader in the Mac couldn't actually work with, causing a crash deep within Apple's code. It was very hard to reproduce, as it only happened on certain systems - and none of ours. HUGE thank you to Apple Developer Technical Support, the Final Cut Pro Team, AdrianEddy and Warren Moore for all their constant and on-going help, assistance, guidance, patience and support!

1.3.5 05/12/2023
BUG FIX:
- In the previous BRAW Toolbox v1.3.3 (59) release, we made some major under-the-hood changes to improve playback performance (such as only using one shared instance of the BRAW SDK Factory). Unfortunately however, those changes resulted in the BRAW SDK not releasing used threads correctly, and as the thread count grew, eventually the BRAW Toolbox Renderer would stop working correctly in Final Cut Pro. This would only really happen on older machines, and Libraries with hundreds of BRAW clips. We've now reverted back to how we were doing things in v1.3.2 (57) and earlier, with some additional checks and protections. We will continue to research and explore ways we can improve playback performance, so that the export times of timelines with BRAW clips in Final Cut Pro get closer to what you see in DaVinci Resolve.
1.3.4 14/11/2023
BUG FIX:
- When using the "Immersive Export" feature, if you do an "Immersive Fade" at the of a clip, on a Apple Vision Pro, it would hold on the last frame of the Blackmagic RAW footage. We now apply a "Default Camera" for any non-Blackmagic RAW clips to fix this issue. Thanks Tim!
