Open it and your book lies open in two pages, one either side of the fold, turning a spread at a time like a printed book. • On iPhone Duo, the controls sit in one slim bar at the bottom, so more of the screen is the page. • Stand iPhone Duo half folded and the page sits on top, with large Back and Next buttons below the fold, for when your hands are busy. • On iPhone Duo, your library opens the same way: the book you're reading on the left, the rest on the right. • Audiobooks now start Chapter 1 from its first line, even when the book opens with pages the narrator doesn't read. • A download from your library server no longer gets stuck if you leave the app while it finishes.

• Listening with the screen locked uses far less battery, and your phone stays cool. • Matching your audiobook to the text no longer runs flat out while your phone is locked. It stays just ahead of the narrator and finishes the rest the next time you open the app, and it pauses if your phone starts to get warm. • Fixed: moving on from a very short chapter, such as a part title, could forget your place.

• Unison Reader is on CarPlay. Pick a book on your car's screen and listen with the car's own controls. • The bar shows how far through the book you are. • Press play once: a spinner shows straight away, and an audiobook starts sooner. • Pausing from the lock screen, headphones or your car takes you back to the page, as the pause button does. • Fixed: the lock screen could show a book as playing when you were only reading.

• Your audiobook keeps playing with the screen locked, even straight after you add it. Press play and put your phone away. • Fixed: deleting a voice's audio while its book was open could leave the phone making audio in the background.

• Audiobooks from your library server are now matched to the book's text as soon as they arrive, so chapters start playing right away. Tap the quotation marks on a book to see the progress. • While a chapter is being found in your audiobook, the player says so. • A book from your library server arrives with its audiobook, even if the app is closed partway through the download. • Fixed: starting an audiobook could need more than one press of play. • Fixed: Chapter 1 of some audiobooks started a paragraph or two in.

• New: see and control the audio your phone generates for each book. Tap the quotation marks on a book to see how much is ready from your place, generate the rest, pause, or generate only while charging. The quotation marks pulse while it works. • Generating uses a lot of battery and can warm your phone, so it now happens only while you listen or when you ask, never while you're only reading. • On iOS 27, the built-in voice reads "a", "I" and "in" naturally again (it was saying "ay"), and gets words like "live" and "record" right. • A simpler player: one bar for playing and paused. Unread front matter (title pages, copyright) is skipped, and the voice steps over it. • Fixes a crash, and listening now continues correctly past a book's title page.
