GETTING STARTED A short tour on first launch, covering the seven things you cannot use the app without: play, the formula, applying an edit without stopping the sound, the preset library, drawing in Sound Canvas, and where the language reference lives. Skip it whenever you like — it is always under Learn. HOW BYTEBEAT WORKS Every control in the app, grouped into chapters, from Reset t to the seed behind a canvas mutation. When a future update adds something, you are shown only the new sections, and they stay marked until you have read them. WRITING FORMULAS The part that was missing. A reference to the language itself, with 27 examples you can load and play, or insert straight into the editor: • What t actually is, and what your number becomes in Bytebeat, Signed Bytebeat and Floatbeat • Classic and JS-big side by side — including why a formula you found online might need JS-big, and why a hex number is a syntax error in Classic • The full operator table in precedence order, with what each symbol does musically • The six patterns everything is built from: an oscillator, a step counter, an envelope, a hex note table, noise and drums, and mixing without wrapping • A complete twenty-line track — lead, bass, kick and hats — assembled one part at a time • Every function and constant JS-big gives you • And the mistakes that cost an evening: a patch that runs but is silent, division behaving differently in each mode, and 32-bit overflow It opens from Learn, and from a new button in the code editor — where you are when you are actually stuck.

SOUND CANVAS — DRAW IT, HEAR IT, SEE THE CODE A way into ByteBeat that doesn't start with a formula. Draw a line and it becomes a loop: left to right is time, up is higher. Lift your finger and it starts playing. • Melody, harmony, bass, drum and FX brushes, each on its own layer • Moods instead of music theory — Dreamy, Dark, Happy, Mysterious, Energetic, Strange — with the real key, scale, tempo and grid controls underneath when you want them • Make It a Track builds drums, bass and harmony around your drawing at three densities, and you can mute, edit or delete every part it adds • Reshape what you drew: reverse, mirror, stretch, fold, quantize, humanize, or mutate it into a related variation you can save and return to • Every drawing is a readable program. Open the code, change the tempo or the key there, and the canvas updates to match • A step editor for composing without drawing, for VoiceOver and for anyone who would rather place notes by hand MORE SAMPLE RATES The rate picker offered only its two extremes. It now has 8, 11.025, 16, 22.05, 32 and 44.1 kHz. The two in the middle divide 44.1 kHz exactly, so they resample without interpolation error — a formula that sounds harsh at 44.1 is often right at 22.05. FIXES • A formula that rendered slower than realtime could go silent and stay silent, while the app kept working in the background on audio nobody would hear. Playback now holds a sample and recovers on its own. • Choosing a preset from the library was slow with the longer built-in tracks. The formula preview no longer re-colours the entire source on every redraw.

A REAL CODE EDITOR Writing a formula used to mean typing into a plain text box. Now tap the formula and it opens full screen: • Syntax highlighting and line numbers • Errors that point at the exact line and column, with a marker in the gutter, an underline on the offending characters, and a bar that jumps straight to it • Completion as you type, so you can't call something the engine doesn't have • Undo, redo and clear, pinned so they don't scroll away with the symbols Apply stays disabled while a formula is broken, and checking happens in the background, so half-typed code never interrupts audio that's already playing. A REDESIGNED MAIN SCREEN The editor is the point of the app, but it used to sit two and a half screens down. Everything now lives in one fixed layout: preset name and live telemetry at the top, the visualizer, the signal meters, the editor filling the space between, and the transport within thumb reach. Nothing you need scrolls away. • One transport instead of two — the wide button is Apply while your edit differs from what's loaded, and Reset t otherwise • Apply now starts playback when stopped, instead of sitting there disabled • Errors appear inline under the editor instead of in a pop-up alert • Export, share and import collapsed into a single menu

Smoother, everywhere. This release is all about performance. Complex tracks used to make the whole app stutter — scrolling, the visualizer, even the controls. That's fixed. No matter how heavy the formula, the interface stays responsive while it plays. • No more stutter on complex tracks. The audio engine no longer competes with the interface, so scrolling and the visualizer stay smooth on the heaviest presets. • Playback starts sooner. Tracks begin almost immediately instead of pausing to prepare first. • Cleaner audio. Fixed a subtle timing inaccuracy that could add faint distortion when playing at lower sample rates. • A lighter, faster visualizer that leaves more room for everything else. Thanks for the reports about lag on the bigger presets — that feedback is exactly what drove this update. Keep it coming.
