Pureader is a local-first reader and source editor for text, technical documents, structured data, and code on Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Open real files from Finder or the system document browser, switch between a focused reading view and the original source, search their contents, and save edits directly to the document.
Supported formats include:
- Rendered documents: HTML, Markdown, TeX, and AsciiDoc
- Structured data: JSON, CSV, XML, YAML, OPML, INI, TOML, and CONF
- Plain text: TXT and LOG
- Source code: Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Swift, Go, Rust, and shell scripts
Reading views are tailored to each format. Markdown and technical documents receive readable typography, structured data becomes tables, trees, outlines, or records, and source code receives syntax highlighting, symbols, line numbers, and collapsible blocks. Interactive HTML supports a responsive reading layout, same-folder navigation, history controls, and safe handoff of external links to the system.
On iPhone and iPad, create documents from blank or starter templates, search with a dedicated results sheet, navigate outlines, and change a text file's format by creating a same-name copy with the new extension. On Mac, work in native document windows with an adaptive sidebar, source editor, and keyboard-friendly navigation.
Optional AI Edit works with on-device Siri AI or a cloud service you configure. Describe an edit, review the complete suggestion against the original, and explicitly apply it before the file changes. Cloud AI is contacted only when you start an edit request.
Pureader keeps the document itself at the center: no import library and no proprietary conversion format. Your supported text files remain ordinary UTF-8 files that other apps can open and edit.
