Every layer at once, across time. And on a folding iPhone, the drawing lies flat under your hand while everything else stands up out of the way. TRACKS The frame reel shows one layer, the one you are drawing on. Tracks shows them all: layers down the side, frames across the top, and a filled square wherever that layer has a drawing on that frame. The shape of your animation, in one look. Tap any square to go straight there, to that frame and that layer at once, instead of switching layer and then hunting for the frame again. Audio sits on the same ruler, so you can see exactly what a sound covers. Add and remove layers from here too. The reel has not gone anywhere. There is a switch between the two, and it remembers which one you prefer. A FOLDING IPHONE BECOMES A SKETCHPAD Half fold the phone, stand it on a table, and DoodLoop rearranges itself. The canvas takes the lower half, lying flat where your hand rests and where a pencil meets the screen at the angle you actually write at. Everything else moves to the upper half, standing up where you can see it. Which means your hand stops covering the tools. On one screen they have to float over the drawing, because there is nowhere else for them to be. Here there is somewhere else. The colour picker gets half the device to itself instead of covering the very thing you are colouring. Tracks gets room to breathe. And when you type, the canvas rises to meet you and the keyboard takes the flat half, the way a laptop does. Folded shut it is the phone layout. Open flat it is the tablet layout. Nothing to set up.

The text tool works again, and a drawing you move and put down stays as sharp as it was. TEXT Adding text was close to unusable, and we are sorry. The box appeared, the keyboard often did not, and the frame reel along the bottom was drawn on top of the Cancel and Add buttons, so there was no way to accept what you had typed. All three are fixed. The keyboard comes up every time, the whole panel rides above it with Cancel and Add always within reach, and the tool cards step out of the way while you type. The preview is honest now, too. It used to show your text far bigger than it would land, so a line ran off both edges and you could not read what you had written. What you see is the size it will be. MOVING A DRAWING NO LONGER SOFTENS IT Copy something, move it, let go, and it came back very slightly blurred. A finger almost never stops on an exact pixel, and putting a drawing down at a fraction of one smudged every edge. Do it a few times and the softening piled up. A straight move is now exact, to the pixel. Turning or resizing still redraws, because it has to. Reported by an artist through our contact form. OLDER PROJECTS A project made by an earlier version of DoodLoop now opens even when that version did not record something DoodLoop writes today. Nothing you have made should ever be unopenable, and this closes the ways it could have become so.

The drawing that appeared twice is fixed, there is a colour picker worth the name, and pasting onto the next frame lands where you copied it. THE DRAWING THAT CAME BACK Move a selection and the last thing you drew would appear a second time, sitting where you drew it, following nothing, vanishing the moment you lifted your finger. If that last stroke had covered a lot of the page, what you saw instead was the whole canvas turning black while you dragged. Several of you reported this over months and it was hard to pin down, because your artwork was never actually harmed: the second copy only ever existed on screen. A stroke was being painted once more, in whatever colour the brush was holding, for as long as a finger was down. It is gone. PICK A COLOUR PROPERLY Tapping the colour well used to hand you the system colour sheet, which knew nothing about the colours you had already used or saved. Now it opens DoodLoop's own, with five ways to find a colour. • Wheel: hue around, strength outward. • Square: the classic mixer. • Shades: your colour lighter and darker, with a full row of greys across the top. Reaching a mid grey used to mean four or five taps through a modal. Now it is one. • Harmony: colours that go together, with a plain explanation of each. Pick a colour and take its opposite, its neighbours, or a set of three, then save the whole set at once. • Swatches: named palettes you switch between, so the greys you mixed for a character are not in the way while you paint a neon sign. Every mode keeps a brightness bar and an opacity bar underneath, so a shade or a wash is always one drag away. There is a hex box and sliders for hue, saturation, red, green and blue when a colour has to match exactly, and the eyedropper is one tap from anywhere in the picker. SIX PALETTES TO START FROM Basics, Greys, Skin, Pastels, Neon and Earth. Skin runs from very dark to very light, because a palette that only covers some people is worse than none. Make your own too, name them, and add or remove colours by touching and holding. CANCEL AND DONE WHERE YOU CAN REACH THEM On a phone, the bar that appears over a selection sat behind the toolbar, and the Done button was off the right edge of the screen. The two buttons that decide what happens to your artwork were the two you could not get to. The bar now sits under the canvas, within reach of the hand holding the phone, with Cancel and Done always visible. PASTE LANDS WHERE YOU COPIED IT Copy a drawing, step to the next frame, paste, and it now lands exactly where it was, which is how you carry a drawing forward and change it a little. Every paste used to be nudged slightly off, and the nudge grew with each frame, so a drawing carried down a strip drifted further across the page every time. Pasting a copy onto the frame it came from still steps clear of the original, so you can see both. Reported by an animator through our contact form. ONE COLOUR FOR EVERY TOOL, IF YOU WANT IT The pen, bucket, shapes and text each remember their own colour. If you would rather one colour carried across all of them, there is a switch for it in Settings. Either way each tool keeps its own underneath, so you can change your mind.

DoodLoop runs on iPhone now, it speaks two more languages, and selections grew into a full transform kit. NOW ON IPHONE The same DoodLoop, the whole of it, on the phone in your pocket. Nothing was cut to fit: every brush, every layer, the timeline, audio and export are all there. The tool panel turns into a bar over the canvas where there is no width to spare, and you can drag it to the top or the bottom to suit how you work. Turn the phone on its side and it goes back to being a column beside the canvas, because sideways it is height that is short, not width. Tap the arrows in the top bar and the bars get out of the way altogether, leaving nothing but canvas. IN YOUR LANGUAGE DoodLoop is now in Spanish and Portuguese as well as English. Every brush name, every menu, every prompt, and the getting-started guide too. SELECT IT, THEN DO ANYTHING TO IT One tap grabs everything on the current layer, or lasso just the part you want. Move it, resize it, squash and stretch it along one axis, rotate it, flip it. And now: pull it into perspective. A new corner-pin mode on the selection bar lets you drag each corner on its own, for signs, screens, and cast shadows. However long you experiment, DoodLoop keeps resampling from the pixels you first picked up, so nothing goes muddy before you tap Done. Changed your mind? There is a Cancel button now, and it puts everything back exactly as it was. HOLDS YOU CAN SET Touch and hold a frame and give it a hold: it stays on screen for two, three, or twelve steps, and its badge says so in the strip. The player, the audio playhead, and every export now count held frames the same way, so what you preview is what you get. CHANGE THE FRAME RATE ANY TIME The fps chip above the timeline changes a project's frame rate after creation. No frames are added or dropped: the same drawings just play faster or slower. DRAG FRAMES INTO ORDER Reorder frames by dragging them in the Frames Viewer, the way you always expected to. MERGE LAYERS Merge Down bakes a layer onto the one below, on every frame, exactly as it looks on the canvas: opacity, blend mode, and clipping included. It asks first, because it touches the whole project. NOTES ON A FRAME Touch and hold a frame and write yourself a line about it: "extreme pose here", "fix the left hand". The frame carries a small badge so you can find it again. Notes are never drawn on your artwork and never appear in an export, and they are free. The hand-drawn markup you scribble on a frame is now called an annotation, so the two are easy to tell apart: an annotation is drawn on the frame, a note is written about it. THE TOOL PANEL FOLLOWS YOUR FINGER Dragging the panel used to move it at half your finger's speed, so a drag across the screen left it stranded in the middle, and it could snap back to the side it came from. It tracks one-to-one now.

Last time we fixed what you reported. This time we went looking for what you hadn’t reported yet, and added nineteen brushes while we were in there. NINETEEN NEW BRUSHES Forty in all now, in groups you can actually find your way around: Drawing, Shading & Texture, Halftone, Patterns & Shapes, Nature & Decoration, and 3D. Halftone shades like print, with the dot grid locked to the canvas so it doesn’t slide around under your hand. Dash, Saw, and Heartbeat run their pattern along the stroke and keep their rhythm no matter what size you draw at. Hair and Fur lay down a clump of strands in a single drag. Leaves, Sparkles, Gear, Dots, and Mosaic stamp as you go. And four of them change color while you draw: Gradient sweeps through hues along the stroke, Sprinkles scatters them, and 3D Brush and 3D Candy Cane come out shaded like a rounded tube. The color you pick is the starting point for all four, so the color well still steers them. A TOOL PANEL YOU CAN MOVE Tools, and the settings for the tool in your hand, are now one card that floats over your drawing instead of a strip taking a bite out of it. Tools at the top, size and color below them, and mirror, ruler, and notes at the bottom. The middle changes with the tool, so what you’re shown is what applies. Drag the handle at the top to park the card on either side of the canvas, at whatever height suits you, and it stays there next time. Fit has moved up beside undo, where it appears the moment you zoom or pan and disappears once the canvas is back. EVERY TOOL REMEMBERS ITS OWN SIZE AND COLOR Reach for the eraser and go back to the brush and your brush is the size you left it. Same for color, and for the note pen and note eraser, which no longer share one width. SELECTIONS The selection box now hugs what you actually drew instead of the rectangle you swept, so you stop dragging a slab of empty canvas around. Copying after you’ve scaled or rotated something now copies what you can see, not the original. Drawing a new selection while one is floating starts a new selection instead of grabbing the old one. A selection that catches nothing no longer leaves you an empty box with handles on it. YOUR PROJECTS CAN’T TAKE EACH OTHER DOWN If you had ever copied a project in the Files app, the copy and the original counted as the same project: deleting one deleted both. Naming a project with a leading dot also used to make it vanish from your library for good. TRANSPARENT BACKGROUNDS ARE ACTUALLY TRANSPARENT Exporting a transparent project used to bake the gray checkerboard into every frame. GIF, APNG, and PNG now keep real transparency, and video gets a clean background. If a frame can’t be rendered, the export stops and says so instead of quietly leaving it out. SOUND Deleting a clip you were listening to now stops it. Recording a take, deleting it, and recording again no longer plays the deleted one. Trimming a clip adjusts its fades to fit, instead of leaving a long fade that made exported audio almost silent. BIG EXPORTS DON’T RUN OUT OF MEMORY Exporting a long or large GIF or APNG used to build the whole animation in memory before writing anything, which could kill the app outright on a 4K export or a long one. Frames are written as they’re made now. ALSO A square shape and a square guide, both aspect-locked, plus a circle. You can delete your own brushes from My Brushes. Tapping a frame and drawing right away lands the stroke instead of losing it. Undoing after a selection no longer takes a bite out of your drawing. Strokes are steadier: a dab could occasionally be laid down in another dab’s place, which showed up as a stray bump or gap in a fast line. Icon-only buttons now say what they do to VoiceOver. Almost none of this came from a bug report. We went and looked.

A repair release. Most of these were quietly damaging work rather than annoying you on screen, so the short version is: your drawings are safer now. YOUR ARTWORK STAYS WHERE YOU PUT IT Selecting part of a drawing and then leaving the project used to delete what you had selected. It does not any more. A selection also no longer rides onto another frame when you add or delete frames, and no longer lands on the wrong layer. UNDO YOU CAN TRUST Undo no longer quietly switches which layer you are drawing on, so strokes stop landing in the wrong place. Locking a layer keeps your undo history instead of throwing it away, and unlocking gives it straight back. HIDDEN LAYERS STAY HIDDEN Hiding a layer, or changing its opacity or blend, now applies to your whole animation. Before, it only changed the frame you were looking at, so playback and exported video still showed it. MOVING AROUND THE CANVAS Two fingers always zoom and pan, even with something selected. Selections are now scaled and rotated with handles on the selection box, including a rotate knob. The ruler appears in the middle of what you are looking at instead of somewhere off screen. TEXT Text no longer gets cut off at the edge of the canvas, and long words wrap instead of running off the side. LAYERS AND SMALL SCREENS Rename, duplicate and delete are now visible on every layer instead of hidden behind a long press. Tool panels fit on smaller iPads and scroll when they need to. Four things you told us were getting in the way, plus a faster way to reach us. YOUR BRUSH STAYS PUT DoodLoop now remembers the tool setup of every project: brush size, eraser size, color, opacity, and the tool you were holding. Leave a drawing and come back tomorrow and it is exactly as you left it, instead of resetting to a size 24 brush. ZOOM WHERE YOUR FINGERS ARE Pinching now zooms around the point between your fingers instead of the middle of the canvas. The drawing stays under your hand while you zoom out, so it no longer drifts away and leaves you looking at empty space. NO MORE ACCIDENTAL TILT Two-finger rotation now resists a little, so zooming no longer knocks your canvas off level. When the canvas is tilted, a new button next to Undo shows the angle: tap it and the canvas spins straight again, zoom and position untouched. SEE THE SIZE YOU ARE SETTING Dragging the size dot floats a big number above your finger, so the number you are aiming for is not hidden under your hand.
